F1 2015 is looking FANTASTIC

Haven't played one of the dedicated Formula 1 games since Championship Edition on the PS3. I usually get my fix in the sims that include Formula 1 spec cars like Forza 5 and Project Cars.

I hope this turns out well and they keep making them.

timings look to be somewhat not quite right. In this vid the fastest lap in the race is a 1:34.6, with Hamilton's actual fastest lap from Sunday's GP being a 1.37.0.

For fuck's sake. They've had 5 years to get this right. Classic Codemasters.

These games are always full of issues like this which aren't apparent to anyone but the hardcore F1 fans so they always get a pass in the reviews.

Yes!

Means I'm interested. FA races in Project Cars are awesome, If this game can built on this basis - I'll be more then happy.

Well, when u look at the vid, some of the speed the cars take into the corner seem rather nippy to say the least, especially when comparing to real life on board footage.

It's all very....smooth? .....i feel the camera needs a violent camera shake like DC. These are 200 mph monsters which you can see in real life on board footage of course. Also, the timings look to be somewhat not quite right. In this vid the fastest lap in the race is a 1:34.6, with Hamilton's actual fastest lap from Sunday's GP being a 1.37.0.

Not saying that it is 100% correct but you are talking a 2.4s difference when tyres alone can account for about 7-8 tenths and the fuel effect can make up the rest. Seems a bit premature to be saying the timngs are off. It is still 2.4s off of the pole time as well so considering the number of laps it seems entirely reasonable depending on settings.

The AI is still driving in one line, one car after the other, into corners, allowing you to dive past multiple cars under breaking... :-/

Grand Prix 4 AI will never be bettered will it? I reinstalled it yesterday with the 2015 mod and it's still the GOAT, they're fast through the corners, intelligent, will move across to defend position, go for gaps in non battering ram fashion. The game just offers the best racing experience of all the console/pc racing games I've played.

Sir Geoff needs to return and save us from this current crop of shit by kickstarting Grand Prix 5.

If it was over 5 seconds it might be questionable, but even then I'd hesitate to call it an 'issue'.

I said not quite right, not off.

Even 2014's time was a 1:37.1 with a 1:35 fastest lap in the race. For sure we don't know what settings are used but it's certainly food for thought.

Given how different laptimes are in F1 nowadays, for example qualifying at Silverstone was a 1.32, without knowing the full settings for the race regarding fuel, tyres etc it is impossible to tell how the times will be.
I imagine a lot of "non hardcore" would be confused by the drop from say, 1.41 to 1.36 as the weight drops off.
Also if they model the tyres properly you will only be able to push about 4 laps before they die.

Am undecided about the game as always, don't mind about the graphics or really the AI that much to be honest. Just hope the handling is good. The last one I enjoyed was 2010, codies first try...

That does look good however, I like racing games & i like watching F1 (not so much the last few years though) but i have never liked F1 games, the last F1 game i liked & enjoyed was F1 96 on the PS1 & before then it was Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix on the Atari ST.

I don't know what it is, i just don't enjoy the game at all.

Wait, that's the PC version? Looks a little bland IMO.

Have to see it myself though.

Simplygames shipped my order today so it will be here tomorrow for PS4. I will answer any questions you guys might have. But bare in mind I haven't played a F1 game since 2012 (Xbox 360)

There are so many race variables a couple of seconds here or there are not worth worrying about. look how much time difference warm vs cold tyres had (circa 2s/lap).

Wait for proper qualy comparisons. Besides it is usually Barcelona and Hungary that show the biggest time difference.

Three laps worth of fuel on brand new medium compounds? I'd say :34 is too slow. That's more or less quali spec - :32s.

The problem when their estimates are so inaccurate, even by a couple of seconds, is that it causes issues with the difficulty levels and fast-forwards/simulations during timed sessions.

Then there's always the AI unaffected by rain, fuel and tyre wear issues that pop up every year

At one point this game was going to be released and treated like Dirt Rally, an early release updated over the months (fan feedback included) but they cookie cut yet another F1 game for this year and i'm honestly not feeling it.

I think this game would have been better being released months ago and tweaked over the F1 season, you just know this game is going to have a heafty patch down the road to solve pitlane, AI, tyre wear and fuel issues because it always happens.

sorry, venting.

I also can't believe they're having to patch in Manor and the new McLaren livery.

They said they would be doing that months ago.
What the hell have Codemasters been doing that they still haven't managed to do it?

You can guarantee that on PC modders will have Manor and the updated livery in place within a matter of days.

I've already seen gameplay videos with 20 cars on track, so I'm presuming the Manors are part of some sort of D1P.

I'm welcoming a July release with open arms, it's so much better than getting it in October. It was supposed to release in June but I'm guessing they ran into a few bugs in order to get the game ready for the shelves. They're still going to be actively patching throughout the year to coincide with car performance/appearance changes.

That's interesting. They've been referring to it as a "post-launch patch". They should really clarify if it's going to be D1.

Chances are they have to wade through loads of FOM red tape before they can make those changes, whereas modders won't.

A lot of the issues with Codemasters series is how restrictive FOM are with their licensing. Some of the issues are their own making, sure. But I'm sure they'd make a much more extensive experience if they were allowed to.

Game is looking really pretty (aside from those starting grid pics, what the fuck!?)...

But the absence of career mode makes this a big no-no for me. I simply can't support Codemasters when they're making cuts like this.

I miss the 2010 approach where you started in a low ball team and worked your rep to progress over several years, they just need to take that and add more meat to it. Making to to mcLaren after 4 years of racing felt like an achievement.

Those were the days. Now you could potentially choose them as a starting team...

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they scrapped that idea because the championship effectively became a one-team whitewash. Everyone would play career to aim for the same team every time, whereas 2010 was very close between a few different teams.

I always thought Season Challenge was shit, too. If anything just do a shorter career by cutting out a few races.

What does the difference between the game and a random real-world lap time have to do with the difficultly levels?

You guys that might have it tomorrow. Feel free to send me pics or videos and I'll throw them in the OT for Friday.

Yeah, I like pcars, but prefer a proper f1 game. The shit regulations and awful pit stops in pcars are annoying.

Game is coming out in three days, but there are no reviews available. Do they have an embargo?

If you played Codies other F1 games then youll probably be less enthusiastic, this is coming from a hardcore F1 fan.

Setting myself up for disappointment.

There we go, i'm not surprised.

:I

No career mode breaks it for me I don't give a shit about playing as one of the real drivers. Does 2014 have a career mode?

Eh fuck it I can play Game Stock Car or something for my road racing open wheel fix.
