Face-Off: Need for Speed: Most Wanted on Wii U

I swear I read some reviews saying it looked better on x360, or that the difference was not noticeable.

Shocking news 300 $ so called "next gen" console have bit better textures than 7 years technically obsolete machines.

Well of course it should be expected, but it isn't. Every developer isn't putting in the time to take advantage of the "newer" hardware. This is likely due to the install base and possibly the additional costs associated with optimizing games for the Wii U. Hopefully as the install base grows, this will be done more often. This could be the norm until PS3/360 support tapers off. Hopefully devs won't completely abandon the Wii U, but instead see it as a lower-price alternative going forward.

For all intents and purposes, PS3 vs. 360 there's little difference. DF explains that PS3 has a slightly imperceptibly more consistent framerate.

Criterion generally uses the PS3 as lead SKU, which is why its games are the poster children for current gen console parity.

So a great and late port who nobody will buy because the game is like 20-30$ on other consoles and everyone already has it. A shame :(

Myself and MANY others purchased this game day 1 from Origin for $30. Given that it is a better version and includes some DLC Wii U owners shouldn't feel too bad.

They don't explain why that is tho. Is it the wiiU hardware? is it EA limiting server resources? WHO DO WE BLAME!?!?

As far as analyzing the game, I'm not sure it matters all that much what the reason is. If they were analyzing the hardware, then it would be something important to consider.

If the game has 8 during the single player but 6 during online play, there is some technical strain limiting the amount of players online.

In the hard races there seem to be 12 other cars you are racing against in single player. I know this because it tells you in the top left and sometimes I end up in 8th or 6th with others in front. :(

There was one f---ed up review which said this. Most others have been positive.

Gaming Nexus' review said:

Even more impressive, in my time with the game I never encountered a single framerate hiccup or annoying loading screen—the whole experience was smooth as silk. Considering the Wii U has been plagued with some pretty awful lag, draw distance and framerate issues in almost every port so far, I have to wonder what magic sauce Criterion is using to make such a fast, audaciously gorgeous game run so smoothly on Wii U…or rather, what everyone else is doing wrong.

In the end Criterion has brought NFSMW to Wii U apparently effortlessly, although I’m sure a great deal of effort actually went into the transition. The game looks and plays better than the previous home console versions, standing shoulder to shoulder with the PC version in terms of graphics, and the added Wii features just sweeten the pot. While many launch window ports on Wii have felt rushed and overall shaky, NFSMWU screams like a V12 roadster doing 160 on the interstate. Whatever Criterion has done, I hope other developers learn how to coax this much raw performance out of the Wii U, and soon.

If you’re a Wii U owner and a racing fan you can’t do much better than NFSMWU. It’s one of the console’s few ports that is, for now, superior to most of the other versions, and a master class in how to bring a multiplatform release over to Wii U with both elegance and power. Don’t hesitate to put the key in the ignition on this one.

ONM's review headline was "Wii U in 'superior graphics' shocker!" to quote them:

It's easy to take the design for granted when you're screaming along at 200mph: it's when you go for a late evening cruise - tunes blaring and throttle finger severely inhibited - that you get the chance to take in the sumptuous cityscape and convincing world that you've been placed in. Only now do you get the chance to admire the road, barrier and wall textures - high-resolution decorations that have come from the PC game and didn't feature in the other console versions.

The game is a glorious example of how a Wii U conversion should be handled. Aesthetically, this game is superior. It uses high-resolution PC version textures, has a more stable framerate and enjoys more impressive particle effects.

What? How is that not part of the technical analysis?
I'm under the opinion that if they cannot explain it or get the developer to explain it then why include it in the analysis. There are a number of reasons why the multi could've been cut. All you can objectively say is that it's less which I think is pretty disingenuous in regards to the actual reason people read these face offs. I want to know why and how something was pulled off more than the fact that it was/wasn't.

For all the EA hate, the best looking game for Wii U is released by EA. They have also released more games than Nintendo for this console.

Not for long. :(

Kudos to Criterion for making a quality Wii U port but I feel dirty for giving EA my money.

Oh well, at least I only had to pay $30 for it.

Why wouldn't they? Let other platforms use that resource.

also why bring it to the level of making fun of someone... shows your maturity level.

I'm not making fun of anyone, I just think these conspiracy theories are silly. Most of the time something is lacking with a Wii-U version, it's because of the publisher and some imaginative grudge they have against Nintendo instead of the fault falling on the system itself.

What you're saying here makes no sense.

In the hard races there seem to be 12 other cars you are racing against in single player. I know this because it tells you in the top left and sometimes I end up in 8th or 6th with others in front. :(

Thanks, I wasn't sure what the max number of racers was in the single player since I never played the game.

This is the very first thing I have read out of everything that I have read that made the Wii U have any interest for me.

Lets hope for more of this..

Totally expected response from GAF. When the Wii U gets shitty ports, it's because it's weaker than PS360; when it's clearly better the argument completely changes. Reminds me of children's arguments on playgrounds.

Is there a Wii U related thread you won't troll? Price has nothing to do with their technical analysis.

ah,so wet got here? the "you are trolling my nintendo console" nice.the first coment was from eurogamer, and its a Arsh reality, what EA expects to sell at this price when other versions are on sale?

dont talk about me,talk about this problem, same happened with mass effect 3

they not only need to make a better port, they need to give a good price

The differences are not so significant i think.

because they arent, but you can be sure some people will talk like its a world apart

Still it's not that this argument is unfounded. It is expected that a new console should be significantly more powerful than 7 year old consoles.

In this particular case, the differences are there and are noticeable, but it looks like it is better in the same way that some Xbox games were better looking than the PS2 versions.

Yeah I was thinking the same when I read that post but I thought it was best not to reply. Honestly it's looking like the only next gen system that won't get regularly shit on around here is the PS4. =/ I have very little interest in the Wii-U, but I don't care to ignorantly troll the system.

Can someone decipher this language?

Price is ridiculous and their online sucks.

/shrug
Different strokes for different folks I guess. Criterion still did put in effort on the port.

That has nothing to do with this thread.

yeah its called "english its not my native language" you can laugh ,its free, its easier than talking about the price argument

No I understand the grammar, it's the argument I don't understand.
It's like paying for a GOTY edition of a game. Yeah it's old, but in the case of this game, there's lots of extra content in there.

this is mass effect 3 AGAIN,EA will ship this at normal price and will sell like shit, and they will have their perfect excuse

Weird, in their comparison video the Wii-U didn't have the best framerate during gameplay. Though it's only couple of frames less during drops.

I wonder if Alex Ward will nit receive a holiday bonus this year for not putting some effort into this.

This so funny to see trolls using the "gameplay over graphivs" argument now.

I'll reply to your comment. You're right, launching at full price isn't cool. But they launched at a discount in a couple regions. NA got it for $30. Unfortunately my region wasn't discounted but I was able to get it off of Amazon for the equivalent of a little less than $50. It sucks but it's a good port, new to the Wii U, around the same price that the other console versions launched. And actually, now that I check the NA Amazon, it's still $50 for every version. I'm sure if people wait the price will drop quickly enough.

I'm just happy that so far most Wii U games appear to be $50 or under.
