How the fuck does this make any sense?

So I just visited Facebook for the first time since all of these changes, and seriously, I may be a moron because I feel totally lost. Like, I swear I just got six or so different pop-ups for new features and whatnot that I have no idea what really are. Subscribe to stuff? Allow subscriptions to my stuff? Why do I have a small feed next to the big feed? Everything just feels so cluttered and messy now.

I also can't help but feel like this is a huge "we want to be Google+" move.

Jesus, what a mess, why can't they just let us choose what we want to see, is it that hard.

This is why I use Facebook on my iPhone about 95% of the time, hopefully they don't decide to screw the app over too, though most of the time it feels a bit pieced together as it is.

I deactivated my account today. Just said "fuck it" to having to try and keep up with everything on there anymore. Figured it was a bigger statement than posting someecards and status trucks.

How the fuck does this make any sense?

It's showing you the top story of the last 45 minutes, and then it's showing you, chronologically, the most recent stories, and finally it's showing you the top stories from earlier today. You really found it that complicated?

You'll be back soon. Just log in and you're there.

I deleted all my friends a few months ago and I can't say I miss it. I waste a lot less time and I have more to talk about with my friends since I don't find out all about them on Facebook.

They still got all your data. You can actually delete your account rather than just deactivate it.

That new layout is an absolute clusterfuck. My own story disappears and i can only see it again by opening my own profile. For someone else who i rarely communicate with it is an top story rofl.

A strory that i read earlier today and commented on also disappeared, meanwhile some shit from two days ago without new answers sits pretty high on the front page.

i'm appalled that 300x300 jpg has mildly inconvenienced me by making me scroll for an additional microsecond before arriving at new material

I'm giving the deactivation a few days. If I find no need to log in after that point, I will do the request to have it deleted. Granted, I shouldn't have a reason considering I backed up my data but you never know.

Man, I normally don't care when the home layout gets a redesign, but even for Facebook this is ugly.

Interesting to see their new Circles feature, I mean, subscribed lists.

Eh? What? Why would that be? How is it any different than the update showing up on the normal news feed?
It shows what they like / comment on even if the other person isn't your friend. Also likes / comments didn't used to show up on your recent feed as new items.

Yeaaaaah. I just saw this. What in the fuck.

How do I prevent MY likes/posts from being viewed by others? Just when I thought Facebook was going to get better with the privacy setting they add an all-seeing eye. -__-

I don't think so, it only shows the status of those who haven't made their posts private.

Basically, all it's going to do is expose people who haven't set their posts privacy settings to only include their friends. Check out the profiles for the people who are getting comments from your friends, they all have open profiles.

Friends of Friends, or Public will show. You can see privacy settings for individual posts by hovering over the gear icon beneath posts.

Just make sure your posts are "Friends only", or Specific people, or specific lists.

The new privacy options in FB are actually pretty great, they are in-line with G+ now, maybe even more granular.

You can even go back to posts from years ago, and hide them. Retroactive privacy changes. Now they just need the ability to edit, and posts will be feature complete.

I'm starting to see the practical use of the ticker now. It's off-loading noise related to "Likes", comments, and other things less important than full status-updates. No doubt, they are preparing for the rumored Read, Listened, Watched and Want buttons. It makes sense now.

Read, Listened, Watched, And Want updates in the main News Feed would create too much congestion, so they are routing that information onto it's own sub-feed.

My problem with the ticker is privacy-related. It's showing information that weren't visible before. For example, I can now see comments/likes of my friends on other people's walls that I normally don't have access.

likes/comments would show up in the top news section before, but not in the live feed. Also, the ticker shows your friends commenting/liking things on people who aren't your friend ONLY if that person has their facebook public or "friend-of-friend"

You actually do have access to that information by going to that person's facebook page. They have their privacy settings set to public

Good catch, saelz8.

Although, its still a bit of an annoyance imo. Now I have to be wary of what I "like".

Yeah, hopefully they gives "Likes" privacy controls too.

I explained that above. You're only seeing your friends comments/likes on posts that are either "Public" or "Friends of friends". Its not Facebook, it's those people not making their posts private. It's just easier to notice now.

Oh, another change that's been overlooked. Character limit. It was 500 before, now it's 5,000 per post. It'll display 1,200 characters within feed, but give you a drop down toggle for the rest. FB is serious about answering to G+, clearly.

Im not sure how they will answer to Hang-outs, but we'll see. Competition is good. Period.

The thing I hate about this is the fact it'll be super hard for my friends to see what I have to say. Sure, I can disable or modify all the flashy new crap, but my less-savvy friends list won't, and a lot will be lost.

It doesn't make any sense. It's just an overload of non-chronological information, and it helps nothing.

Terrible, once again they fuck things up. The Facebook page looks like a mess.

OK so if I understand this right when I like or comment on someone's picture that have their privacy settings set to public, this specific comment/like will broadcast to all of my friends through the ticker?

How is that not the all-seeing eye?

that's how it works, and yes it is an all-seeing eye. but this information was always available to everyone. The difference now is that this information is being broadcasted basically

because some people get it earlier than others. and it also depends where you live

You already have it partially. Where's the toggle between Top News and Recent?

I find myself using the Ticker more than the Feed now... it's just easier to understand.

The iPhone App automatically updated with the new style news feed as well.

The “Listen with your friend” feature in ticker is blowing my mind. Listen to what your friends are listening. LIVE.

Facebook employee let it slip on Twitter. Looks like it's going to be some sort of music-hang out.

Techcrunch said:
Not only will all music you’re listening to appear in the just-launched right-side ticker, there will be a link to “Listen with your friend”, that when clicked, will allow you to listen along to the same song at the same time (thanks to the magic of scrobbling and track matching)

I hope the Ticker doesn't get spammed with Music people are listening to.
