Facebook username link thingie in a few

I just made an account to steal one of my friends names and facebook doesn't allow profiles created after June 9th to obtain a username. :-(

I have an extremely uncommon first and last name, so I don't even think anyone wants mine. :P

Got [firstname.lastname], but I wonder if I should've gone with just my first name.
Unless your first name is uncommon then you did good. I'm over here looking at random as people who decided to use their first name. I think that's a big privacy concern. I'm willing to bet the internet will get real over Facebook usernames.

So, why can't we change it later? Bullshit.

Because it would almost defeat the purpose of having urls. You know people would be changing it once a week, everytime a new song or movie they liked came out. So then lets say they drop their old url and pick up a new one, and then someone completely different gets their old one. It would just be a headache.

What happened? Last night the profiles were publicly accessible, but now you have to login to see the referral. So much for me getting any google love out of this. LAME.

Just grabbed my GAF name. It's the username I use for everything. Though I probably could've gotten my last name or something, as it's not that common looking.

I don't know about the rest of them, but mine is set to ultra private mode.

I'm sure that eventurally, Facebook will allow people to change their URL.

It's only a matter of time before someone named something like "pen15club" decides he wants it to be publically acceptable, and lobbies Facebook about it.

I think Facebook wants people to think it's 'permanent', so that you don't get many people pulling that Obie type shit.

Consider, there was a time before you could change your Network. Now you can change it once a month. I expect something similar to come in for URL changes, though those are more likely to be a 'once a year' type of thing.

So do the big names all get notified a week in advance or something?

Facebook: reserve your shit before people take it!

Certain celebrities/high profile people were able to get vanity URLs for a while now. You just had to get in contact with the right people.

Also, I'm pretty pissed. I was there at 12:01 and someone else got my name! :lol

Why are some of you guys doing the first name.last name thing (for professional reasons)? I'd think in a professional setting that you'd be more easily found this way, rather than kept anonymous to all but your friends.

i just did first name with first letter of last name.

Looks compact and you can't mistake whose it is.

It doesn't really matter. People at work could still just use the search or in some cases even google to find you on facebook. Assuming you used your real name when you signed up. I don't think it makes it easier to find you, because even those of us with uncommon names, still most likely share that name with someone else. It'd actually be harder to find someone just based on the url, because you're not using the network they'd be in to narrow down the choices.

The privacy settings give you a pretty good amount of control over who can see certain info on your page. But if your url is "motherlovervaginalplumbler" I don't think you can stop a boss from seeing that. So people are just being mindful of that when selecting their url.

They should allow you to change it once every few years or something to that effect. Or even make users pay a fee to change it.

I got my GAF name - and I use this name in quite a few other forums and places as well.

I don't see the point in using your real name, I mean if someone knows your real name and is interested can't they already find your profile via a facebook search using your name?

I am friends with someone from work on facebook, but I don't really put anything offensive or blatantly ridiculous up there - because I don't really tend to do anything like that anyway.

I just got my firstnamelastname. I like to keep Facebook for people who I actually know, so I didn't go for NekoFever.

Although I've just noticed that my surname isn't taken, and I thought it was reasonably common. Kind of wish I'd gone for that now...

I got firstlast name. My last name isn't all too uncommon I suppose but I've only met a few people IRL with my first name, so I guess I'm not too surprised. I was hoping to get just my first name, but oh well.

And LOL @ Obie Fernandez.

Got "first.last". Went to try and get the same on Gmail (neglected this for a time..) and all variations are fucking taken. I'm gonna track him down and take him out Highlander style and take back my name.

I ended up going with it, and now I kinda regret it.

Nothing says you have to accept friend invitations from people if you don't want to. If I get one from someone I don't know I'll ignore it, otherwise, if I think they seem vaguely familiar I'll ask around at my friends and see if it's someone I'm just not remembering from high school or something. If so, I'll sometimes add them.

53 friends?

"Man, you are one pathetic loser!"

I went with first.middle.last, as its also my gmail address and first.last was taken.

I kind of wish they would've left first.last and firstlast as separate redirects, so at least two people could've had a variant of their real name, but I can understand why they chose to assign them both to the first person to register it.

Ha! I have 27 friends. I like to limit my friends list to very close friends and some acquaintances. No internet friends, friends of friends, etc.

I'm the same, if I don't know them in person, and don't talk to them, they don't get on there. I don't want just anyone being able to see what I put on there. Not even family get on my friends list. I've got somewhere in the eighties, and it's never going over a hundred.

Oh, and I just had my name for the address thing, very boring I know.

GOD DAMNIT I GOT SCREWED OVER AGAIN!

http://www.facebook.com/HaroldLi

Bastard has been taking a better website domain, but I beat him to securing a twitter name. Now he has struck back with this facebook thing.

I'm keeping my typical Internet handle (AlphaTwo), I guess, but I think this whole "securing your name" thing has become very very personal.

:lol

I went for firstnamelastname. No dot, but I could have had one if I wanted. Just for the sake of looking profesh.

A maximum of 8 people will hate me.

So is there no way to get this option back if you deleted the box on the top of the page. I hit the x without reading :(.

i love looking at the page of the person who took my name from me (matt wheeler, not a super-common last name i guess), and seeing that they have no profile and no reason to even have a page. thanks dude.
