Now that a week has passed, what actually happened in Ankara on the night of the coup? From what it seemed online, the coup went pretty well there initially, and there were reports on it "being hell" in the streets etc. How was Erdogan etc able to recapture it? Or did the coupers simply lay down their weapon/flee?

It was a work brother!

He's a dick head for sure.

What are the chances we see another Egypt here?

He can't think by doing this he's not just creating more pissed off people
Well in Egypt both the people and the Army threw the MB in the trash bin.
I don't know if Turkey's army is as united as the Egyptian army.

On some Arabic TV there seems to be a constant polishing of Erdogan from some religious clerics that are part of the MB.

Al Arabiya made fun of one of the clerics saying that Erdogan wakes up every morning and kisses his mother's feet before heading to office. The thing is Erdogan mother passed away prior to him becoming a president.

Good thing that across the Arabic world after the downfall of the MB in Egypt, MB clerics became a joke. Most of which are hiding in Turkey and Qatar. Saudi Arabia has a few but they can't declare that they are part of the MB since they are considered as a terrorist group in Saudi Arabia.

Is it bad that I want the Turkish economy to go in the shitter?

Nothing gets people motivated for change when the dollars start drying up.....I mean, look at him cave to Putin

There was some minor media attention of the tourism industry going down, but only on web articles, not mainstream TV or newspapers.

From what I remember Turkey used to have a lot of tourism, but now it's going to get even worse and the drop off before was already bad. I doubt we'll get any mainstream (TV) attention to it though.

I love how all the Erdogoons comment on the state of emergency news and worries from FM's and comparing it to France.
Cause you know, it's the same, r-right?

So when a number of us posited that the coup was staged, others here said that this was 9/11 levels delusional, because that conspiracy would be too big to contain.
Now the Turkish government said a 100,000 people were involved in the plot to overthrow them.

So, who's delusional?

Technically they aren't 100.000 suspected to be involved but 100.000 'viruses'. Or more like 100.000 potential Gulen supporters or potential roadblocks when implementing the presidential system. These people probably already were on some list.

We still don't know if it's staged or not, I'd rather not do baseless accusations.

Everyone. Delusional city. Next stop Democratically Electedville

In all seriousness it might not have been staged from the get go but it's defiantly being manipulated or pushed in a direction which allowed this to happen.

The list containing these viruses were ready to go so it's very hard to believe they didn't know this was coming miles away.

What I believe is that they already had lists of Gulen supporters. That much is obvious.
Now if they used those lists as soon as the coup happened, or the coup was staged to legitimize them using those lists is what no one knows... yet

Hasn't Gulen commented yet?

Pretty sure he comments and said he had nothing to do with it.

So Erdogan managed to identify and track down 100,000 seditious elements in a few days. Impressive stuff. When is he planning to launch the helicarriers?

One of the prosecutors that allegedly detained for supporting the coup turned out to be deceased for two months prior to the coup.

HOLY SHIT

That's just amazing in such a terrible way.

Guess we know that Erdogan planned this for a while now!

Erdogan wanted to play big politics. Putin nuked his economy. Suddenly, he pivoted to Russia and CIA attempted a by the book coup in order to pull Turkey back into its sphere of influence. Putin bailed him out and here we are now. If Turkey's relationship with USA deteriorates (and it will), culminating in Turkey leaving NATO, Putin will win Middle East virtually over night. Check mate.

My bother, his family and the entire workforce of the company he works for is going to be evacuated the next couple of days. They've had news of something happening next weekend and the company doesn't want to take any chances with its workforce.
