Wow so this is the worst case scenario now? A Failed coup?

Back in 2002 in Venezuela the exact thing happened. There was a failed coup and Chavez then purged all of the military and filled it with yes men giving him free reigns in becoming the dictatorship and failed state that Venezuela is today.

There are stories about how Chavez was tied up and all but no one pulled the trigger on him. Pretty much everyone here now regrets that he wasn't killed right there. Hope Turkey has a better future than what we had.

This is exactly what's going to happen, except you have the added bonus of funneling terrorists across the Turkish border as they increasingly become an Islamic theocracy.

Obama needs to make plans to move the nukes out of Turkey tonight and have them gone by next week.

Too bad Greece doesn't have the will and ability to retake the European side of Constantinople in this confusion.

That would never happen in the Modern 21st century. Greece would lose all diplomatic relations (except with Russia) and the Turks would fight back for it anyways.

This is a play from Erdogan. It's fucking stupid.

Imagine a SINGLE helicopter firing pot shots at the White House and NO ONE is shooting it down. It's happening right now. It's a fucking farce.

How exactly can a country's military lose?
If only part of it participates in the coup.

The generals are all Erdogan's yes-men. He planned to replace all senior commanders as well (colonel to major). They tried to fight back but reports claim they miscalculated.

What are the chances that this is Erdogan's Reichstag Fire?

Thought so at the beginning. Always suspected that when Putin disappears for a bit it's to see if anyone tries to carry out a coup.

This could have been Erdogan making himself look vulnerable to draw a few out in the military.

ehh, you don't know which sectors of the air force are under coup control and pro-government.

I am sorry why again some people is supporting that guy ?
"What women need is to have equivalence of worth rather than equality -- in other words justice," Erdogan said at the International Women and Justice Summit in November 2014.
"You cannot make men and women equal," he said. "That is against creation. Their natures are different. Their dispositions are different."

I understand to not be for the coup but to like this guy... I'm just trying to understand the different opinions here...

With your fist, obviously.

This seems like it was a bit larger in scope, would be much harder to pull off. Likely this is a legitimate coup attempt foiled by poor planning.

Planning looked okay but they didn't have the backing Erdogan had. And the moment you start to shoot civilians you've already lost.

These people are glad to live here and enjoy all our benefits but they still identify themselves as Turks. And boy do they love Erdogan. Glad they got knocked out early in the EURO's else you can't get a decent night of sleep.

Identifying yourself as a Turk is ok but being a fanatic is not. Living in freedom while supporting suppression in the country where they came from is disgusting. Honestly, whoever engages in violence (well, initiates), they should send back. (Would be a problem if it's 2nd or further generation though.)

The Thrace area has been Greek more than Turkish throughout history. You don't need to equate it to a maddening claim to retake the whole briefly held Alexander the Great conquests.

The American area has been Indian more than White throughout history. You don't need to equate it to a maddening claim to retake the whole briefly held Indian conquests.

For you.
Do people not realize the irony of shouting "The People Have Spoken!" where if you're opposed to Edrogan you will be shut up. You won't be able to come forward with your opinions on news media, where people get thrown in jail or worse just for being from the opposition, and where your vote doesn't count for shit because elections are fixed?

"The people have spoken" is a empty fucking argument when you stop the portion of "the people" that don't agree with you from talking.

moving the goalposts, expected.

So, just like I said?

Don't quote me again till you calm down, from your posts here it seems that you are freaking out a little

The guy you replied to never said that a coup d'etat couldn't be bad, so you're just going around basically arguing about nothing.
Uh

Do you really believe this? That a military coup will end with free and fair elections? How often has this been the case historically?
Turkey. Like, several times. Portugal too. There's other examples as well.
