She's no stranger to cancer, but just skin cancer prior to this. She has some sort of rare recessive genetic condition where her skin doesn't produce enough melanin or it's in some way faulty. Not really sure of the details because she doesn't talk about it much, but the short version is that she burns easily and is extremely vulnerable to skin cancers. Historically she has had cancers cut or burned off of her every couple of years since she was in her late 20s. She once told me that her specialist said she was the longest living person on record with that particular condition.

Fortunately treatment is so much better now. I wasn't so lucky and lost my mom to it in 98. If you ever need someone to talk to about it I'm more than happy to. It's truly the worst.

My mom has something similar to that, but it's because she never used sunscreen as a kid. Every once in a while she gets basal cell spots that she has to go get removed. I've heard is common, though.
Last summer she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but fortunately they caught it early so the treatment was simple compared to other cases. She had a lumpectomy and radiation treatment, and now she's on some kind of drug that helps prevent cancer from coming back. It was absolutely terrifying, though. I was there with her after her mammogram was declared abnormal and honestly I wouldn't wish that feeling of pure and utter terror on my worst enemy.
Also guys I don't have the motivation to write this anymore I'm just going to finish it tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear that.
I lost my grandma to cancer so I know that feeling. It's nowhere near what you went through but I do understand. Cancer is evil and I hope one day treatment can be simple and easy.
You guys have nothing to feel sorry for. We're here to listen. <3

I've lost three uncles to disease. One to cancer and two to AIDS. The uncle who died of cancer actually was the person who got me into video games. Gave me my first console and game, a Genesis and MK2. Used to play it for hours with him so I can at least remember a lot of good times with him.

I didn't mean to take attention away, just wanted to state I'm here for support as I know what it's like. Sorry to hear guys, shit's rough to say the least, and unfortunately not uncommon. Just based on the posts on this page alone.

but really, it's not something I need to get into, and rarely ever comes up. A lot of people don't actually know this about me. Anyway, I've been alive longer without her now, I made amends a long time ago. Nowadays it's mostly reflection on how it shaped who I am.
I'm going to sleep for a couple hours so I don't die when the game comes on. Night y'all until I wake up in 3 hours.
