I'd interpret plain chocolate as dark chocolate. I don't think milk chocolate can really be considered plain due to the milk.

Hmmmm, I think I'd go with milk chocolate, since that is what I assume most people like. But it would have me doubt a bit. Plain makes me inch a bit more towards dark chocolate though. Just "chocolate" would probably be milk chocolate for mne.
