Has anyone watched Kurau Phantom Memory? I have the first 6 episodes, I'm wondering whether it's worth getting the rest.

I dipped in out of this series, and dropped it around episode 9. It had some promise early on, but I just couldn't get into it.

Kurau is a great show. I can't find any more eps after 15 though :(

PS: The OP and ED songs are awesome :)

That might be because it was licensed. I didn't bother to check and see who got it though.

Ok, here's what I've seen.

Starship Operators - Interesting show which is VERY dialogue heavy. It's based on a novel series by the author of Lodoss War, basically about a starship in the future and it's crew. Very technical and "realistic" so many things are just spoken instead of shown. During the "battle" in ep1 you just about never see the enemy ship, instead it's all bridge command action. There's a lot of potential here but at 13 eps they better ramp up the character development and worldview fast because I don't know any about the worldview and there were tons of characters but I had no idea who there were and it was hard to grasp their personalities from the dialogue alone (because of the nature of the show's realism on them handling their professions.

Jinki Extend - Yet another young girls + fanservice + psychological plot + giant mecha + angst anime. Not my type of genre and the first episode wasn't too impressive either. The animation was pretty good but the designs all looked so generic, even the robots. Probably not going to follow this, since I just know I'm going to end up hating it.

Xenosaga the Animation - Surprisingly good adaptation considering the extreme low-budget nature of it. But if you've played the game there might not be much for here to enjoy, since it's the same story with low budget animation. Some of the changes are pretty neat but we'll see where it goes. It's a pretty good alternative if you don't want to play the games though. I'm a xenofreak so I'm going to keep watching this.

I'm not going to watch Negima, Air or AMS since they're not my genres at all, and they're popular enough for tons of other people to give impressions. :)

Starts in april, the latest word is that the OP is by Kinya and the ED is by Maaya. The word is also that the character designing of MADLAX is doing the character designs. It's already confirmed that the director of .hack//SIGN, Noir, Avenger, MADLAX, Meine Leibe is directing it and that the screenplay adapter of Sakura Wars and Silent Mobius is writing it. It's animated by Bee Train, after staff like this is announced , don't expect much. :lol

It better be like Fumoffu. Funniest anime ever. The original Full Metal Panic is the worst anime series I ever wasted money on.

It's by the same team as Fumoffu, but it's less all out school comedy this time. While I'm sure it'll remain highly comedic the Fumoffu team at Kyoto Animation are going to try their hand at adapting one of the other novels (with heavy alterations) that actually involve some action and mecha and anti-terrorist stuff aside from school. Oh and the most unkillable bad guy ever from the original Gonzo series is back,:lol but I think they might be ignoring the Gonzo series entirely so it doesn't mean he came back to life AGAIN.

Just to update this thread with some new info on upcoming April anime (anyone wanna start a thread? I'm lazy):

Tsubasa anime - music will be composed by Yuki Kajiura

Eureka Seven - begins on TBS/MBS on 17th April and will run for 50 episodes (YAY BONES!)

FMP 2nd Raid - don't know if it'll start in April, but the story/scripts will be written by the original author of the FMP novels so it should be much more "faithful" in style than the GONZO series. The animation team is the Kyoto Animation team that did Fumoffu so good times ahead.

Eureka 7 news...

3 minutes trailer up at the official site.

http://mbs.jp/eureka/index2.html

I don't like it really. Especially the music.

ANN is reporting that Bandai is co-producing Eureka 7. Also, this looks like it's pre-licensed.

At the Eureka 7 press conference in Japan, it was announced that Eureka 7 is being co-produced by Bandai Entertainment (BEI). This is a joint project between the two companies, and while Bones created the title and is handling the creative aspects, BEI is serving an advisorial role in the process.

The mecha oriented TV series, featuring mechanical designs by Shoji Kawamori, will premiere on Japanese television on April 17th and will run for 50 half-hour episodes. Tomoki Kyoda is the director.

In addition to the TV series, a Eureka 7 manga is to begin serialization in the March issue of Shounen Ace and a Eureka 7 PlayStation 2 game is due to be released this summer.

Bandai Entertainment will release Eureka 7 in North America, however they have not announced when.

FMP being more "More faithful" does that mean more humour or drama?
Im assuming more drama from what ive read. Though someone feel free to correct me if im wrong (duckroll? :p)

Also this year im definately anticipating Gonzos project SOLTY. The staff is defenately interesting (Kenichi Sonada, Range Murata...)

Shrug, more faithful means less bad crappy writing in general, which littered all of the latter half of Gonzo's FMP. Humor should be there, as should mecha and action, but with less stupidity and more entertainment. :D

Eureka Seven looks hot, but it should also be noted that a billion and then some dollars are probably going into it because in the press release it was stated that the following are in the works: 50 episode anime series on MBS/TBS, streaming of the series on the pay internet Bandai Channel service, manga, novels, 2 PS2 games, model kits, action figures, capsule toys and various other merchandizing. It's extremely unusual for an original series not based on anything to get such a push. I hope it works out for Bones and Bandai though. ^^;

That trailer was interesting. Very FLCL-like character designs imo.

And because I didn't want to start a new thread....the upcoming Planetes dvds look very promising. (animeondvd.com)

Bandai Talks Planetes Release (09:59 PM EST): During an appearance on the #animedvd channel last night, Bandai producer Taku Otsuka who is handling the release of Planetes gave out some interesting information regarding the release of the series. The entire series is being planned as a special edition with two discs for each release. For the first volume, these are the features that were revealed:

# Episode 1 Commentary by Director and Voice Cast (Japanese)
# Audio Drama Presentation
# Interviews with NASA’s Orbital Space Debris Section Scientists Part 1 of 3
# Interview with English ADR Director
# Interview with English Voice Cast
# Orbital Space Debris Image Gallery
# Special Thanks Page (image of section team)

Subsequent volume will have the continued featurette with the English voice cast to be featured a new voice each volume as well as different galleries, promotional pieces, trailers and additional interviews and commentary planned for later volumes. The dub for the series is being worked on by Bang Zoom with Tony Oliver as the ADR director.

Wow, I really like the way Eureka 7 looks. I was a bit iffy when I saw those first promo shots, but it looks awesome and slightly FLCL-ish actually in show.

I'm not normally a huge mecha fan, but this one looks great, and it's BONES. So I'm in.

Since we're getting into new Spring shows now, wouldn't it probably be a good idea to start a "Spring '05 Anime Season" thread soon?

What so hard to understand? Everyone's psychologically fucked up. :lol

I guess that would make better sense to the whole thing... but I would like to know why this town is full of psychos
:)

Edit: Oh god... I paused AIR ep 5 to post this but 20mins in I really want to stop watching this damn thing... its like watching something cute mixed with Alfred Hitchcock themes

Isnt Air just another run of the mill H game turned anime......

Uhh all ive been watching is AMG and i guess im enjoying it, I really cant not enjoy it though, its been one of my favorites since wayyy back when. Its way too slow though, how long til they get to wacked out highjinks of the manga (aka when is Urd coming -_-) I guess its nice theyre trying to develop the characters more but eh, its making me want to dig through boxes and read through my old mangas :p

I kinda enjoyed Starship operators but um its being subbed really really slow. Xenosaga I keep downloading but never watch...

Thats about it for the january shows....

AMG is cool. I never saw the OVA so it's all new to me :)

Xenosaga is also very good. Fleshes out the story nicely although they are changing some things around...

Yeh, I've only seen the AMG movie, I hadn't seen the original OVAs, so I was a little bewildered by the plot. The manga seems huge, like 28 volumes and still on-going, so I'd assume the anime will be really long.

I've seen the first three eps, so far it has been pretty good, nothing especially great. I'll try stick with it, see if it grows on me.

what is an OVA? I heard the term used a lot but I never remember
OVA = Original Video Animation. Stuff released straight to Video/DVD. Most of the time with higher production values. Expensive though they are usually one episode per release

Well its really slow. For instance the whole first ep wasnt even in the manga. Im guessing theyre trying to elaborate more, but yeah if they do the whole thing itll be 100 + eps easily and the director hinted at wanting to do it....
