You're way more patient than I am -- I dropped it after about the third episode. I'm thinking of trying the manga though.

I have to say this season hasn't been that great... the only shows I'm really folllowing are Yakitate Japan (hilarious), Mai Hime (which had promise but is really starting to stink), Gankutsuou (in a slump, but episode 8 looks good), Windy Tales (I've only seen the first episode but it's so uniquely interesting...) and Monster (haven't actually started this one yet, but I've heard so many good things about it that I have to see it). .
Monster is ridiculously good. Just don't drop out after the first couple of episodes. The series does admittedly start very slowly, but it picks up in a hurry and becomes pretty gripping. And it's just so well written. I mean really.

Cloudy, no slice of life angst from this season as far as I can tell.

However next spring, you MUST watch Air.

Alright, I will. I've liked all the stuff you've recommended so far :D

Hmm this one? Looks pretty generic. @_@

Looks can be deceiving.

I'm not going around recommending Air to the general american anime fanboy populace, however if you like drama/slice of life, Air is going to be a winner. Air is considered to have one of the best stories in a game in Japan.

Never seen Wish, isn't that a sports anime? and Gankutsuou is cool for style mainly (like Last Exile), however it doesn't particularly follow the plot of the original story so that was a bit disappointing.

Fantastic Children started with the best ep1 this season and this year...

...9eps in and it's still the best show this year besides FMA. People who are subbing anything else out of this crappy new season over FC = dumb.

That is all.

I'm still stuck in 1999. Help!

read this thread very carefully and use google :)

edit: can someone help with the ending song in School Rumble?

Name? Lyrics? Translation?

I've seen 3 different fansubs they all translate the song differently... an MP3 would also be nice :D

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
I'd like to chime in and say that Gankutsuou really surprised me so far with how good it is. The count is a great character and the way he manipulates everyone has almost become satisfying.

I've been meaning to ask... how's that new Cutey Honey series?

http://www.re-cutiehoney.com/

Obviously full of fan service, but fun stuff. It's full of classic Go Nagai wacky character designs, too. You gotta love the way all the cops look. :lol

There's also a live action Cutey Honey movie based on the Re Cutey Honey storyline floating around for download.

Just bumping to say Gankutsuou is freakin' amazing. I really hate the weird thing they do with the backgrounds/clothing art but the plot and characters = awesome :D

The ep 8 I downloaded won't run past halfway. Guess I'll have to wait till the regular group releases it. I'm gonna be so pissed if
Valentine
dies :(

PS: Am I the only one who like Mai HiME? It's corny as hell sometimes and reeks of Pokemon/Power Rangers but the characters are awesome and I'm a sucker for school-type stuff :D

Blimblim

The Inside Track
Yeah Mai Hime is quite fun to watch mindlessly. Very nice character design and overall animation so far. This season was quite average, I really enjoy Beck but A-E is soooo slow to get the releases out. And compared to this you get sometimes 5 different groups subbing Naruto each week (not that I dislike Naruto, but this is just stupid).
Yakitate Japan is pretty fun (but also A-E, damn it !), completely stupid but you got to love the reactions when they taste bread :D

Or try redownloading it or something... best ending yet of this series.

needs to show more effort.
way back when this thread first started I remember watching a trailer that seemed to have more of a depressed theme to it and it was like a group of 3 friends and one of them was talking about how they had all promised to go to some tower togethor or something. Anyone know what I'm talking about and what ever happened to that series?

the description of fantastic children at animenfo doesn't really sound like it... but then I only have vague memories of a really long trailer from months ago.

I remember the trailer looked interesteing because it looked more like a dark sad tale of regret rather than a standard happy/cute adventure series. But I could be way way off I guess.

You are talking about "The Place Promised in Our Early Days".

This is a full length movie from the creator/director/writer of "Voices of a Distant Star". The movie recently opened in Japan so a DVD release is still some time off. ADV has licensed it.

I'll like to contribute my picks for this season too! After like 10 weeks into the Fall anime season here's my take on the stuff that survived my watching habits and are still on the list.

Fantastic Children: Anime series of the year easily. Awesome directing, music, pacing, writing, etc. Solid animation and almost never a dull moment. Characters are great and hte plot rocks. Xenogears x Wind Waker x Laputa = WIN!

Gankutsuou: Has it's ups and downs, overall rather enjoyable but the story can be pretty random and inconsistant. Patterns were cool for awhile, now they're just getting annoying. I like how after ten episodes there're no mecha appearances yet, I dislike how Franz is still in the story and certain events are just getting random and wtf. Music's okay, the design for the Count rocks. Needs a good dose of gaysex towards the end to solidify it's place as a cult classic.

Mai HiME: Awesome combination of great humor and great action in completely random ways pieced together by a RPG-cliche-ridden plot which only serves to make the action cooler and the humor funnier. Good music too. This is probably the most entertaining show in a long while in terms of low-tier storytelling pure fun fluff. It's also one of the few shows that can actually make me laugh.

SEED Destiny: Why oh why. I'm a big SEED fan but this show is just painful sometimes. I feel like I'm getting violated and forced to accept it, not even like it. >_< The director is a bastard and needs to die, everytime I've convinced myself that this is THE last episode and the END for me, at about 15 mins in he'll insert a token scene featuring Athrun or Cagalli making me give in to my weaknesses and continue watching..... week..... after......week. DAMN YOU SUNRISE FOR EXPLOITING MY LOVE FOR ATHRUN X CAGALLI!

Yeah that about sums it up, Fall has been fucking disappointing so far, but FC and Mai HiME are lights at the end of the dark deep tunnel of bad shows. :)

After reading this thread I decided to try out Fantastic Children. I have only seen the first episode; it seems interesting I'll keep watching.

Valentine better not die!!!

What, none of you ever read the original book? Half of fun of Cave King is seeing how they choose to adapt stuff and wondering what random stuff they'll change/add next. :D

Yeah I just watched all 10 episodes of Gankutsuou and it's definitely awesome. Way better than most of the new stuff this season.

Oh and Sunabozu episode 4 is out.. If you have not seen any Sunabuzou episode, do yourself a favor and check episode 1 at least. :p

Yeah Sunabouzu is pretty entertaining. It's a change of pace where the hero seems more like the villains.
