The Light of El Cantare
Greetings, anime friends! I've just been catching up on Fate/Zero and it's pretty damn good.

This season I'll be checking out From the New World, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Psycho-Pass, and Robotics;Notes.

P.S. Obligatory SAO opinion: eh. "Smartest anime in years" is the anime version of "Oscar-worthy story."

You need to stick around and post in character, eiyuuou.

Nerima Daikon Brothers. It's terrible.

(bear in mind that I work in musical theatre, so my standards are not the same as other people's)

No, no, you're not mistaken. It's unwatchable. I normally love Nabeshin, but that whole production was horribly shameful.

This makes me wonder, why aren't there more musical anime out there? Are there even any?

To add to everyone else's examples, I think that there's an episode of Kanamemo that's almost entirely singing.

My favorite One Piece song (among those I've already reached, obviously) is this one. The imagery, the beat, the lyrics... Just, holy shit. It's probably my most loved anime OP ever.

Nakama.

Man, to this day everything about
Enies Lobby
just remains One Piece at its finest.

None taken.

It looks fine, Zel.

I know some people don't like it because of how silly it gets in terms of crazy character behavior, but I'm surprised to hear people found a lot of it boring.
I've watched it three times now and I don't remember ever being bored by any of it.
If anything, I'd expect to be its biggest critic, because as far as I know I'm the only person here who played the game before the TV series existed, and game adaptations usually suck, but I think they did a great job with this one.
Contrast with Kimi ga Nozomu Eien/Rumbling Hearts. Now there's an example of an excellent game turned into a boring anime.

Well that's that. Eat shit, Arlong.
Luffy trusting Nami with his hat was a nice touch given how much it meant to him.
Another visual touch I like in general is when he's drawn with that slight definition in his arms as his design looks so much better than normal. :lol @ the marine's long distance communication too

Man, I hope you enjoy the ride. I marathoned One Piece last year and it was amazing.

The Saobondy Archipelago arc is where the anime wents downhill, though. Just terrible. They removed the blood, changed the art, lots and lots of QUALITY... I just don't know what are they thinking...

God, after last night's experience, I don't know if that description makes me want to play it or avoid it like the plague.
I think it's worth playing and got a lot out of it personally. But I like morbid stuff like that so I wouldn't imagine everyone would have the same reaction.

Completed Boogiepop Phantom today over the course of the week. I enjoyed it, but was initially hard to follow due to the numerous characters introduced each episode, dark art palette, and countless flashbacks and scene shifts. Hopefully things will blend better when I get around to watching it a second time now that I know what should occur throughout the series.

LOL. Did you get a good grade?

Got an A. Never thought I'd get an A on my senior thesis for writing something like that.

The initial topic I had in mind was going to be something about idol worship in Japanese media, but my professor convinced me to try to do something with Tale of Genji. I ended up reading that monster in a week.

Yay for not sleeping!

You know about DayQuil, right Mad Pierrot?

Sure. I've been needing the extra rest, even if it's inconvenient.

A large part of the reason that I've fallen behind on the anime by over a year is that
Marineford
was so horribly botched that it essentially killed my desire to see any future arcs animated.

It was pretty funny how every time the French characters were talking you had a microbe showing a sign reminding us that even though it's Japanese, they are actually speaking French. I was hoping they would have just went with pure French instead.

I liked the beginning of the episode. They were biking in the fields so there was some good scenery porn which looked pretty decent. Then there was this totally random lesson by the microbes about wine. I think this is the first time where I felt the education part was too intrusive and ruined the flow. At least keep the wine lessons till the end with the theater thing they do after the ED.

I played the game as well before the anime came about. When they
postponed the final episode out of respect of the murder that happened that week (or was it the week before?) it made me dread its coming as I knew it would be a bad end.
I went into the game blind (like most others did probably), so you can imagine my shock when I got one of the
bad ends
. But yeah, they did a good job sticking to the material.

Yeah, there's that too... the one episode = one chapter thing... Stopping the anime would be much more acceptable.

Of my own free will. I was exploring connections to Tale of Genji in modern pop culture and harem-related media.

You know what I realized, if you have done your thesis now, you probably could have talked about Minamoto-kun Monogatari manga in an academic paper. Never thought such a thing was possible.

School Days is NOT a boring story.
It has faults but thats definitely not one.

Regarding KGNE , I did end up buying the series during my Keyshit collecting days.
Its typically melodramatic but I didnt think it was boring.

It's too popular to be stopped. Still I prefer the way of One Piece to Naruto and Bleach that had filler arcs that lasted a whole year. Damn they were usually bad.

The problem both Bleach and Naruto have is not only is the filler bad, but the shows have both gone to crap as well.

Then we could just stop watching these shitty arcs... 10 minutes for the OP + recap isn't, in any way, good. 5 minutes on face reactions/staring... this pisses me much more than filler arcs.

God, I would even accept them to bring back Aspis.

As a fan of both Precure and One Piece, one eternal truth that I've come to know is that the spice must always flow at Toei. The endless marketing onslaught means you never do without your allotted portion of entertainment each week, but almost always in a heavily-diluted form.

Hey, me too!

Taking bets on Toei saying fuck it and making the
dragon in Punk Hazard
(manga spoilz) CG, y/n.

Well I can certainly see why some would prefer shitty fillers for a year and then having better paced story arcs. I must say though that with recent story arc I think they have done better job than for example with
marineford
. To have longer episodes they have added some neat extra fighting scenes to major fights.

Not having seen any of
Fishman Island
animated, I can actually see the potential for improvement on the manga material due to how horribly underutilized
Hody's henchmen
were.

I'm gonna say no, just because none of the animals have been CG IIRC. In fact, the only prominent CG I can remember at all is from OP 5.

Wasn't the entry scene for
Whitebeard's ship in Marineford
CG?

Too bad these extra scenes weren't that good anyway. Also, no blood makes it look like a kids show. Why did Toei banned blood on their anime anyway?

One Piece wasn't so bad until Saobondy... it was actually quite good. Even my brother, who's not to keen on anime but really likes One Piece noticed the drop in quality.

Oh man, that was a ton of fun. Seeing Luffy, Captain Kid and Law all fighting together against the marine force was really quite cool. One Piece is at its best when it throws you in with a bunch of guys who's full power you have no way of knowing. I can already tell I'm going to like both these guys.

No blood? I have certainly seen blood even in most recent episode. Has manga even more blood? really haven't noticed difference in anime compared to past. Seems to have same amount of blood as always. It's not like in Bleach where you really could notice that suddenly all the blood is missing.

Man... just watch any episode before saobondy archipelago and you'll se the difference. Whitebeard scene was a fucking joke in Marineford arc.

So there's no more blood in One Piece?

Damn you, Toei.

Also, you guys are depressing me with this talk of quality drop.

I've noticed it a little. Scenes where you would use to see a full cut on someone's arm, for example, sometimes now just have a red scuff. There's still blood in some of the more impactful scenes, like when someone gets shot. Overall, less blood doesn't really bother me much.

Hmm... looks like The Anime Network is also going to have super late delaycast free streaming for BTOOOM!, From The New World, Girls Und Panzer, and Medaka Box Abnormal, starting in November. So the latter two have a good shot at being simulcast on Crunchyroll as well, I suppose.

...god, the simulcasting situation this season is so fragmented.
