Man that OP is awful, my eyes :(.

Anyway, pretty ok start for me. I didn't have much hype for this going in, and in the end I come away pleasantly amused with the show. It sort of lacks a hook to really get me into it, in a way its a bit of an amalgamation of previous Kyoani shows. With regards to the visuals, the backgrounds ended up being better than I would have assumed from what I saw in the trailers and the animation is pretty much up to usual Kyoani standards. Can't really complain in that regard. Actually a lot of the animation reminds me of Nichijou, lots of, silliness to it, so that could be pretty cool if they play the delusions right. The music is hit and miss, some tracks work well others are plain. The main guy isn't doing a whole lot for me atm, although he had his moments, but crazy girl should be fun to watch. Moe teacher and moe mom were the best.

Accel World 22

So the fight at the start wasn't bad. Light on action but it was pretty short but still nicely done.

Then, we're back to the real world so that was dragging of stupid characters and their stupid problems. Terrible.

Nice background porn from Magi ep1, as expected from A-1 Pictures.

There's nothing particularly bad about about this shows production or direction, it's a KyoAni show after all and there's certain standards you can rely on that studio to meet. While it isn't a Hyouka level show in terms of it's presentation I don't think it would make any difference if it was - there's nothing about this work that this story or these characters that I have any interest or affection for on any level. Perhaps this show 'isn't for me', but there are plenty of other stories about characters I can't relate to that nevertheless interest me.

This is my first confirmed 'drop' of Fall. Luckily there's plenty of other things to watch.

OP/ED aside this wasn't that bad, I actually think I might like it, very little happened in this episode to say if I find their games funny or not, I think I'll watch a couple more episodes at least to see other characters too. Don't like the moemoe blob character designs though, everybody is moe >.< that gif shows how I feel about the designs.

I don't know anything about magi, if it's anything like adventures of Sinbad anime, I'd like it very much but looks like it's more battle focused rather than adventure ?

I enjoyed it. It's no Hyouka--lacks class, lacks anything--but when the show isn't embarrassing itself (the point, I suppose, but it's still an unpleasant one) it's pretty charming stuff. Probably the most pandering thing Kyoani's done since Lucky Star or, as others have brought up before, Haruhi, which the show is most similar to.

From what we've seen of the PVs and the early impressions for episode two, I guess it'll be heading into the more delusional stuff soon. Kinda sad, because I enjoyed the 'normal' scenes more; the fantasy stuff just tries too hard. Which is the point, I guess. As mentioned above. Cringing stuff.

The definition of the whole chuunibyou stuff does confuse me, though. The intro mentions some pretentious behavior but that's at odds with what we see displayed here, which is more akin to live roleplaying. I guess the correlation between the two is the desire to be something else, or to pretend to be the other rather than one's self, and the refusal to acknowledge the irrationality of it.

I'm way lttp on this one, but after catching up with Sword Art Online, I was compelled to pick up Accel World from where I left off (ep 4).

The whole thing really goes to shit once the Noemi kid turns up.

Sure he was villanous. But so thoroughly unlikeable so as to ruin the show. Maybe that's just me though. I can't stand watching smarmy dipshits. So I just skipped through the whole lot and saw how they dragged out what should be a minor arc into a prolonged half season of pain.

Actually, I can't say I'm a fan of Shonen to Anime conversions... I like my Anime to be wrapped up in a season. But shonen mangas forever drag out the story, with some going well into non-sensical territory (like Detective Conan and Hajime no Ippo).

And when they do attempt to cut it short like in Claymore, they inevitably screw it up anyway.

Dai Sato Panels at AnimeFest 2012:

I really don't think he likes AO that much (or the movie).

Mr. Sato closed his prepared remarks with a plea for the audience not to give up on their dreams of working in the anime industry. “Keep in mind that I can’t draw pictures. I can’t play instruments. But I still want to be involved in anime. If it’s just typing words, anyone can do that. Consider Google Translate today, and consider where it might be even five to six years from now. If you have talent in writing, you may be able to write in English and still approach us even in Japan and perhaps start a professional relationship.”

Yea I somehow doubt that.

Everything about the Noumi stuff (asides from how it ends) is bad. Just really unnatural behavior plus implausible setups and blackmail and a shitload of frustration. Bad writing abounds. It's Accel World so the real-world complications are always going to be terrible, but the stuff involving Haru getting attacked by the boob monster + the camera was the lowest the show ever went, asides from the time when Cartman glomped a naked seven year old.

Don't worry, ep19 is the best episode! Stay strong!

I got linked this and I don't get the relevance.
ten points to anyone that recognizes the character though
So I was hanging out with a bro earlier and reading the thread while he was in the bathroom. When he came back, I had just opened this picture.

Him: "This is why I don't go near animeGAF."

Well, I certainly am now. Thanks, KyoAni!

I'm not sure what to think about this first episode. It's hard to tell the exact direction this show is going to take. I didn't so much dislike it as much as I'm not sure what kind of story it wants to be. Both main characters are rather annoying, but I think that's somewhat the point, and their interplay is supposed to be the source of comedy. The show's success is going to depend, I think, on them actually having character arcs instead of just doing the same routine every episode. Mainly I want to see Yuuta get repeatedly embarrassed, dude is way too serious about being "normal."

The direction is perfectly competent as expected from KyoAni, if never pitch-perfect like in Hyouka. The animation is better than I anticipated, and the character designs more Keion-like in motion than they appeared in preview material. The background art was also better than it initially appeared, again, not as good as Hyouka, but I can't really hold that against every other anime. Some shots were even pretty nice, as you can see here.

Why are you assuming things?

Because based on character designs and what I've seen, it's not hard to make such an assumption. I mean... if you pull out 5 red balls from a box full of balls, you're going to assume that the box has a lot of red balls, right?

Regardless, I'm not saying Magi sucks or anything. I just doesn't appeal to me.

I actually don't like Arabian Nights stories either, but I love Magi. I doubt it plays out like you think it does.

Well... for me it's just from a visual perspective. Part of the reason why I love Pandora Hearts so much is due to its visual style. It's very reminiscent of Victorian architecture and culture so I love it. Magi's visual aesthetics and its setting just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. It's also one of the reasons why I also don't liike the movie Aladdin very much. *hides due to inevitable hate*
