It's an amusing coincidence that Sora no Woto has been brought up on this page. If we are to believe the interview with the Aniplex producer of Magi where he stated that he chose its writer for his ability to bring out the historical setting, it must have been that show that got Hiroyuki Yoshino hired for the job, as its quasi-World War II Europe setting is the only work of his that at all fits that description, not to mention it's another A-1 Pictures production. So in a sense, Sora no Woto can be blamed for what has happened to Magi.
It is strange to see them do what Dresden aptly commented about this thing called "world-building" (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=43233874&postcount=15572), because MAGI precisely shows inverted the emphasis on what was done for So・Ra・No・Wo・To. The core layer on this later one was the tight group of main characters that, being surrounded by the day-by-day of the consumed world they inhabit, exposed the meaning of it in constant drops. This is the case for a well established defined plot course you could work with from beginning to end, that you helped laid out on its foundations (a well formed continuity) to make a conclusive project. So, of course, this works differently for adaptations of ongoing works like MAGI, that keep adding lore as it goes, and things must be presented in the way the author originally handled it to not break its pace.

Not focusing on how the character originally interacted as a starting base to explore with them the continuously unfolding setting of MAGI could be an error, making it more unbalanced as it progresses.

I know you're right and I need to push forward. My major issue is only partially the quality of my work, but moreso how stupidly slow I am to finish anything. I'd be happier with my work if I could pump out a couple of decent pieces a month or so.
My humble advice; don't think on pumping finalized work as is, and don't judge your works as you go... just draw, thinking on it as an exercise. Focus only on the individual elements first without contemplating the result just yet.

I've seen your sketches using Miku as a model and those are nice! Keep trying (and improving)!

It's about melodrama (that is not convincing at all) that has a terrible payoff.

And two good characters stuck in a bad show.

And shipping Sawa's Mom and Wakana.

According to my sister: yes.

It's not just about girls and they do quite a bit, especially when you consider the authorities are busy trying to prevent them doing it.

it's about beanface deformities

Now I'm confused.

right up there with the likes of angel beats!

Naruto SD 29

Mario Kart genjutsu was a bit funny but as a whole the first skit was decent. Second skit was alright on focusing on the kunouchi weight loss, but like Gai, and Naruto, and Lee, I doubt they would have cared to know the kunochi's weights.

Oh wow, a solution to a confession that isn't rage inducing or stupidly poor. This show is getting better and goddamn I do love Natsume's voice Atsumi Tanezaki, so hnnngh.

That makes it sound worse than Jormungand. lol
Well, I never saw Jormungand but Black Lagoon does suck.
Black Lagoon is easy to like, its insspired from a lot John Woo and other action movie.. and basically became "trope jungle", its just fun if you enjoy those kind of movie that full of asshole shooting each other, you know "style over substance" thing.
So, Black Lagoon is missing doves so I guess it's always been the doves that carry his movies. Wait, that's not true at all! Sorry, I watched a lot of John Woo/Chow Yun Fat movies and they're all better than Black Lagoon by far. Maybe that is what Black Lagoon was going for but if so it failed miserably, I'm not going to give it points for trying.

Besides, the dialog really is fucking bad.
Don't trust mAc on Black Lagoon!
There's little in the world that I should be trusted on but this is one of them!
guys what anime features strong independent women that is not utena?
Someone else way back recommended this to me but I'm going to recommend Yakushiji Ryōko no Kaiki Jikenbo. The show itself is rather mediocre but the woman is fantastic. Seriously. Find me a better fictional woman main character.

But sometimes you get answers like:
Michiko to Hatchin, Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate (Integra's not a main character, but you'll appreciate her), Tetsuwan Birdy Decode (kind of...)
What? Seriously? Who's the strong independent female lead here in Black Lagoon? Revvy? She's as emotionally developed as a 12 year old and if you gave a 12 year old a gun and told her to shoot men in a barrel she'd be just as deadly.

I don't get this, when some people ask for a strong woman why is it seemingly just physical strength they have? Why do they still have to be perceived as weak emotionally and mentally? Revvy's not strong in that manner at all, I run into real live women all the time with a better grasp on shit than Revvy in Black Lagoon, sure they probably couldn't kill me but then again, I doubt Revvy couldn't kill me either. Oh, also I bet I could make Revvy cry.

You know, Revvy kills a lot of people in Black Lagoon but I haven't seen her kill one person moving. Think about that. The only moving target she faced was Roberta and Roberta's still alive. Makes one wonder if Revvy's really any good at all or if the people she faces are just idiotic.
He's right, though.

Right on Giant Robo, right on Black Lagoon, right for animeGAF, right for America. MaCoDiN 2012.
Thanks for the back up but this is why we get paired together you know! It's all good though since I came out on top. That said, I'm almost willing to bet you miscapitalized all the letters in my name in case you ever wanted to distance yourself from this post sometime in the future? Hmm? You wouldn't be planning to run against me would you?
I sure hope he's wrong, because I secretly added Black Lagoon to my cart while you were coercing me into buying that Serial Experiments Lain box.
Sounds like you saved all the characters in Black Lagoon the trouble of shooting you a new asshole and did it yourself! Enjoy.
What'd he have to say about Giant Robo?
I didn't post things as meanly as I could have, should have, really.
It's a shame it's so boring.
Moribito's not boring it's just slow!
It nearly took my whole lunch hour to scroll down to the first reply on my phone. Jesus.
Don't compound all his wrongs into one post, that's not fair!
If, assuming I were wrong, those are all my crimes I'm a pretty amazing guy!
I grew to dislike some Planetes characters, like Tanabe. I hope the show doesn't focus too much on her.
Tanabe's the only super positive girl I like, Planetes would suck without her.

Oh yeah, so it did.

Also, 13 had the instrumental version of Servante de feu, which I wish they included in the OST.
I have a soft spot for 'Le pont de pierre' because it takes me back to the first trailer for the series. That music and backgrounds without any dialogue made it very haunting, and I loved that!

Going back a bit, because I like to talk about SnW.
Oh, how do I miss the threads on 4Chan's /a/ on this series! The origin of SPECULAH! The charts are (only partially) a testament of that frenzy-ness:

Forum:Episode Charts - So Ra No Wo To Wiki
http://soranowoto.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Episode_Charts

To keep going back to the exposition and information dumps we have seen recently (and the "world-building" thing from earlier); there are works that come from novels and such were it is understandable why they do it, however I think that, sometimes, on this visual medium you need to take advantage of the visual part first and foremost and adapt necessarily to that, to not bloat constantly what you are trying to express for the work in question. More stimulating that way.

That kind of lite non-visual narrative that awakens the brains of those trying to understand everything can be a double-edged sword, though. It makes people go on their own beyond what you had planned, which could lead to disappointments.

The one from him I find most spectacular (table of contents included!)... by popular demand he even added some more images!

Gyrozetter - Episode 3

There's a dip in quality this week. The episode feels a bit like filler, with the story barely moving forward, and some padded out hi-jinx instead. There were some fun moments, but it got draggy by the end. I guess such is expected of a long kids series. But next week should be pretty fun! We're going to have a RACING BATTLE between comrades! :D

I found a source that explained why the Tari Tari 10k breaking numbers seemed to come out of nowhere. Basically, after it reached a 8,760 total with its second week of sales, the Blu-ray cutoff numbers for the next three weeks, even on the extended lists, were just high enough that weekly Tari Tari v1 BD numbers could have been as good as 500 every week and we didn't know about it. Oricon, of course, is still counting all the data, so as soon as the cutoffs were low enough again for it to get back on the charts, the full total is now in plain view. On the same note, as PdotMichael alluded to earlier, even though Hyouka v4 is the only volume from the series that we've seen break 10k on the list, the first three volumes are probably well past it by now; they've likely been consistently selling, but at numbers too low to make it onto the charts.

And that's your random sales nerd fact for the week.

Oh, and this week is when Natsuyuki Rendezvous volume 1 finally goes on sale, so we'll get numbers for it next week.

KatawaGAF attempted one, but it didn't pan out afaik.

School Days is never an interruption, because it is always with us. Like Makoto in a dark movie theatre.

I don't remember any characters named Saoirse, though. Who are you referring to?

That girl who sits next to Makoto and made friends with Katsura. Was that not her name? Shit, I'm usually good with stuff like this.

Should be ok. I'm pretty anything below 3k is a bomb.

The sequel/no sequel line on that chart is probably below #8, depending on if Humanity Has Declined had a big budget (it didn't have the unabashed viraling most big titles do)/Joshiraku was exceptionally cheap (it performed worse than SZS, and the same sponsors were obviously unhappy with where THAT went).

Her full name is Sekai Saionji. Probably remembered her last name.

Might watch more later tonight. Course I'll have to minimize the risk of being caught watching this by my roommates. Or anybody. Including myself. The show is only 12 episodes long, right?

I don't remember anything about the rest of the characters besides Makoto's friend being a dumbass.

With vote totals like those, the whole tournament is basically rendered meaningless. Might as well just shut the whole thing down for next year.
It's a shame that the organizers turned Saimoe into some sort of exclusive club, since I like its format better than the much more open ISML's endless round robin setup, but what can you do.

Girls und Panzer - Episode 2

The concept remains ridiculous, but yet so fun. It's pretty hilarious how they are trying so hard to make tank driving moe and charming. The tank otaku girl is a pretty good addition to the main team. The other teams look pretty fun too. Other than that, there isn't really much to talk about, other than the awesome SD cuteness of the ED as you can see below! :D

Nah, it's just one timeline. The Sekai book comes first and ends in an ominous way that connects to the Kotonoha book.

It definitely increases their chances of striking oil.
I thought it was believable, but really unnecessary and cringe-inducing.
Disappointing that it's just a duology. :(

depends on the size of the order but it's usually around 15-20 bucks

I can't really comment on Magi since I haven't watched the second episode, but the show always balanced the characters first and the setting second. By doing the classic "new girl in town" trope, they're able to have Kanata discover the wonders of the world while focusing on her development as a character.

Yeah, using a real world setting helped tremendously... but like Aria, the setting-porn came second to the characters and the storytelling.

I have a soft spot for 'Le pont de pierre' because it takes me back to the first trailer for the series. That music and backgrounds without any dialogue made it very haunting, and I loved that!

We can probably agree that SnW has an awesome, haunting soundtrack all around. :)

I figure that Magi has the "burden" of manga-expectations. I complain about adaptation-anxiety, where people feel the need to cover the source material as close as possible because they feel tied to it, but going in the other direction without care could be problematic in its own right I suppose.

I'm seriously waiting for a scifi show to hit me like SnW. I wonder if Sekai can hold me after the
time jumps
happen. Characters, not lore, is the key here.

The Light of El Cantare
So the post about the new Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo reminded me to watch it, where I made an observation:

I almost thought she was Akane from Smile Precure, but I guess there are a couple of newbies who specialize in Kansai accents. (Well, more likely, they just have those accents given how much range the typical voice actress in Japan seems to have :p)

Dammit I really didn't want to have to watch this especially considering the declaration I made a couple of threads back but I'm pretty much obligated to watch anything with a Kansai girl. Is it a really thick accent or just one of those "-han/chau/ya" dealies? Because I can probably make an exception for a show this bad if it is.

fuck where is win 8 tan?

It's unisex, even though it appears to be more common for females than males.

The best Makoto is still a guy, though:
