Dammit I really didn't want to have to watch this especially considering the declaration I made a couple of threads back but I'm pretty much obligated to watch anything with a Kansai girl. Is it a really thick accent or just one of those "-han/chau/ya" dealies? Because I can probably make an exception for a show this bad if it is.

It's not particularly strong from what I remember. It's more a refined version of her Ginga character I think. Still might as well watch it. lol

Wow at the Horizon S2 sales, guess a third season is pretty much guaranteed at this point, huh?

Also, watched Thermae Romae last night, I enjoyed it, a pretty funny short show with a neat (and absurd) idea behind it.

This was a rather... empty sales week.
But hey, seeing as Five Star Stories is the top spot, might as well remind everyone that Gothicmade hits theaters in just over two weeks!

I like this show. It's extremely easy to watch and it has a nice lighthearted feel to it, it's something I'll forget a few days after I finish watching it but I'll enjoy it while I'm watching.
This episode was decent, I'm not a fan of the hammer, but I found the lack of balance joke to be kind of funny. I skipped the OP and ED when I watched the first episode but I think I like them after hearing them now.

I also think the character designs try to emulate the designs of a bunch of fantasy anime from the 90's like Rune Soldier, Sorcerer Hunters, Those Who Hunt Elves etc. but don't quite succeed. Then again, I might be wrong, but it's just something that came to my mind while watching the episode.

As long as Okada-bot stays away from the progressiveness of PA Works, we're fine!

Girls and Panzer 2

5EGa7l.jpg

How about when the Panzers were used to kill thousands of Allied forces during Market-Garden and Bastogne? WASN'T THAT AWESOME?

I know, it's meant to be a fun show about girls being moe and moeing it up with tanks for the tank nerds, but the dissonance being caused here is just fucking me up way too much.

It really is the Call of Duty problem just taken to the next logical extreme, where even the shallow patriotism of USA USA USA is removed and the symbols of war are made entirely apolitical. I just wonder if someone made an anime about girls flying around in the Enola Gay, people would be okay with it. :p

I also wonder if this was a show about fetishizing American or British tanks if it'd be somehow "okay" and whether that's just as problematic, since, well, that's what video games have done for the last decade.

But really, the one thing I stuck around for they still didn't bother explaining -
why the fuck are they on a carrier?
- and I figure they're not even going to address it, so I think I'm out for the time being.

Also, I suppose watching it with what amounts to
troll subs
probably doesn't help enamor me to the show either. :p

Yeah, using a real world setting helped tremendously... but like Aria, the setting-porn came second to the characters and the storytelling.
I absolutely agree with your post here, just wanted to make a clarification because I probably worded very badly my previous comment; with "setting" I wasn't referring to the real world setting or place it was based on, but the planning for the series itself (setting the plot). I meant to say that So・Ra・No・Wo・To was a conclusive original project where, compared to MAGI, the creators had the opportunity to go step-by-step presenting a world they created from the ground up (set up with a start, a middle, an end and objectives well delimited), whereas with MAGI the ones responsible for the adaptation should have followed more closely the steps of the original author in a world that isn't "theirs". For example, changing the first encounter (and its dynamism) between Alibaba and Aladdin already introduced differences in how they are motivated and their pretensions, skewing a little the meaning of their relationship compared to how it was first presented in the graphic novel.

That alienation is what I wanted to highlight when hosannainexcelsis mentioned Mr. Yoshino and his works in general. In other words, So・Ra・No・Wo・To was self-contained and an achievement in comparison (right now) because the nature of MAGI's adaptation is flawed since the beginning for a long running work that hasn't even ended and continues to explore new things yet.

I'm not sure if this explains what I wanted to say better or not...

We can probably agree that SnW has an awesome, haunting soundtrack all around. :)
Yeah. It is a shame that, as you mentioned, the instrumental version of 'Servante du feu' wasn't made available (some trumpet solos would have been cool as well).

If it's not the greatest accent ever, then hell no!
Well, she's not a new student from Georgia dropping "y'all" bombs all over the place is what I mean. lol

Ah, well, that's not to say all original works are perfect either. With adaptations though, it seems no one is ever happy.

I think hosanna was referring to how place was used (admittedly, I'm just reading your quote of his post), and given that Magi is also set in a "real" location, I can see why hiring the Sora no Woto guy might be a good choice. There's still a part of me that wants to visit that real city in Spain because of how Seize was depicted in SnW anyway. I suppose it'd be like hiring Amano because of how she took Venice and used it as a backdrop for a completely original story.

I was hoping the eyecatch music cues would make the OST as well, but alas. Still, what we got is pretty good.

Well, I never saw Jormungand but Black Lagoon does suck.

At this point I'm pretty glad that I haven't really checked out the manga because I didn't have nearly as many problems with this episode as I had with the last one. Ignorance truly is bliss.

Girls und Panzer - Episode 2

The concept remains ridiculous, but yet so fun. It's pretty hilarious how they are trying so hard to make tank driving moe and charming. The tank otaku girl is a pretty good addition to the main team. The other teams look pretty fun too. Other than that, there isn't really much to talk about, other than the awesome SD cuteness of the ED as you can see below! :D
Look at you, posting impressions at the bottom of the page. How polite of you.

I'll check the show out I guess, I've kind of been putting it off because cute stuff is usually...I dunno, not that much up my alley, but I'm quite interested in the tanks.

Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo 2

That was a lot of cabbage. So the guy is crazy just like the rest of them but doesn't want to admit it. Also I feel sad for the classroom friend because
he is going to take the crazy girl over her.

Considering how I'm already watching the ridiculous brocom show OniAni, I might as well give this one a shot. This decision was not influenced by any whipped cream gifs whatsoever. That being said this show is absurd, lewd, and random as hell. And I'm ashamed to say that I'll continue watching it due to my weakness to man-hungry older women (Sensei~<3!). Here's hoping Chihiro-sensei gets her moments to make the moves on the MC.

I wonder if that's due to Okada. I thought the second episode was funnier than the first, at least.

It will only get better!

Exactly!

Hey now, they're just exploiting a property to the best of their ability. I'm sure anyone else would do the same considering how successful the series franchise is.
Everyone kept saying that M'dokes was Evangelion for the 2010s, and the Production Committee decided to take them seriously.

Of course, only talking about these particular ones from Mr. Yoshino... and yeah, you can't please everyone.

There's still a part of me that wants to visit that real city in Spain because of how Seize was depicted in SnW anyway. I suppose it'd be like hiring Amano because of how she took Venice and used it as a backdrop for a completely original story.
Do it (hey, we talked about this some time ago http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=37800594&postcount=13768)! It can be a little expensive but the Paradores sites all over the country are beautiful places to go (and something to be proud of, as every part of them is national patrimony), and the one there is majestic. If I'm required to go someday to my region's university (UCLM) campus at Cuenca, I can even be your host there!

Don't know if it was posted but here are the Windows 8 girls. Yu is the short hair and Ai is the long hair.

Yeah it was posted but Yu is a cutie.
Nanami is the best Madobe so far though.

"I think the story should outlive its creators." Which means "I think the revenue stream should outlive its creators."

Exactly. Don't mess with perfection. Madoka Magica was in all ways exactly what it should have been and needs nothing more.

That's not really the Eva model though. End of Evangelion was just a "big fuck you" to everyone and effectively ensured there'd be no further animated continuation.

I imagine they'll adapt the 2 original manga series of Madoka into anime. Of course Oriko Magica is only 7 chapters, so they might just turn that into an OVA.

Why does everyone praise EoE so much then? Or maybe I misread/mirepresented AnimeGAF's thoughts on it.

Yeah. However, these are franchises by name now, you don't need continuations when you can have remakes, retreads, parallel worlds, prequels and whatever thing they can slap said name on it.
