Oh man this show is so great. Easily my favorite show so far I've watched this season - albeit I've only watched 5 shows so far (so slow x_x) and one of my favorites of the year after 1 episode. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed the first episode of a romcom more than this. Definitely going to catch up on this one as soon as possible. Hopefully the show keeps this pace up, everything about the first episode was perfect.

Makoto with that badass dash. I think part of the reason I'm enjoying this show way more than I thought I would is because I'm a sucker for underdog stories.

I love seeing that climb to success, and this series is doing a pretty solid job of depicting that. Dammit.

I remember when Japanese cartoons where the place to go for all the ultra-violence and nudity. Now we just have panty shots.

One more reason why anime fans today suck.

People say I'm overreacting when I say less blood is ruining One Piece. The next step will be putting sparks, just like Tokusatsus.

Hayate Please Gouge My Eyes Out - 03

I remember enjoying season 1 and 2, I remember them being easier on the eyes, I remember not damn near falling asleep out of boredom during an episode.

What the fuck!?

Figured I may as well scrub through this just to see what the show is like.

It's weird, and also bad. Weird in that it's quite dry, lacks the energy of the previous Hayate productions, and the humor (when an attempt is made, at least) is understated (at best; usually doesn't work at all). It's a very different vibe from the other projects. There's also these strange interludes where Ruka pops up on stage and delivers a monologue that tangentially seems to be related to whatever is happening; they don't work very well and contributes to the unpleasant strangeness of the show. Direction is lacking and the episode has a whole moves slowly.

The art is weird, and inconsistent. For this episode you have an assortment of just plain bad art, moments where characters look close to their previous incarnations, and then cuts where their head sizes suddenly increase for no reason at all:

PdEeH.jpg

Not to mention the awkward, close-up shots of Hinagiku looking unpleasantly detailed.

Worst is the music, though--that is, the fucking insert songs. There's one near the end and it feels horribly inappropriate and out of place.

And at some point, I remember all the blood in Bleach suddenly just becoming black ooze/scratch marks. It was even more glaring, because the first couple of seasons made such liberal use of it.

Here's something interesting: the upcoming One Piece Film Z will have its theme songs performed by Avril Lavigne, of all people.

Huh? odd piece news, don't like but am okay as long as it doesn't play during the movie, should of got real life certified pirates to do a track.

One piece strong world had a bizarre intro song, with what sounded like nas doing a news report about some kid getting shot.

The guys pretty westaboo his a fan of Eminem & Micheal Jackson enough to put them in One piece.

The anime has always had less blood then manga from day 1.

anime adaptations in general usually have less blood then there manga counter part.

Wow. I'm glad I decided to skip out on Manglobe Hayate. Maybe this is why otaku don't buy their anime.

Really? I remember when Ichigo fighting Grimmjoe and Ulquiorra there's still a lot of blood, although I'm not watching Bleach that much.

I only watched the first episode but I actually enjoyed the dry humor the show was implementing.

But now I'm dropping it because they have completely defiled the goddess that is Hina. Those pictures make me cringe.

Hurricane Polymar OVA

So this is pretty similar to Casshern: Robot Hunter from 1993 in that it's sort of a gritty remake of a show from the 70's with character designs by Yasuomi Umetsu (yes, there's nudity). I'm not a huge fan of his designs, but I do admit there is something charming about them when being viewed in the context of the 90's, the overly colorful trashiness really represents the spirit of a lot of shows from that era that refused to let go of the 80's but still tried to be hip and new.

Anyway, this OVA was nothing special, it had a nice fight scene in the first episode (animated by Masahiro Ando, supposedly You Yoshinari also worked on the episode) and some nice animation, it kept me entertained (and bored at times), but it also felt unfinished and unpolished, with a lot of weird scene transitions.

Oh neat, I wonder if all the old Tastunoko stuff got gritty 90s OVAs. It sure sounds like the ones by how that reads too!

This fucking show...

So basically Makoto's super bummed because Kotonoha won't put out. He tried groping her boob but she resisted. Like all the other times he tried stupid shit. (Okay, this wasn't nearly as stupid as going for a kiss during the hanky-panky part of a movie, but it still wasn't well played on his part).

Kotonoha later discusses this with Sekai. Sekai asks Kotonoha about sex and if she ever plans on going anywhere with Makoto. Kotonoha proceeds to tell her her deepest sexual fantasies to her in great detail.

Anyway, Makoto talks about the incident with Sekai. Sekai decides the best course of action is to have him "train" on her. Yes, train on her.

So, after a series of failed attempts to find privacy, they settle for the roof of the school. Sekai instructs him on what he should do. She has him hold her hand, pet her hair, etc. Well, eventually she has him pet her boobs. Sound like a hilariously cheesy softcore porno? It might as well be. Anyway, surprise surprise, they end up making the beast with two backs on the roof (presumably).

As they're going home, Makoto decides he's a fucking dumbass (I'm just kidding. He decided that awhile ago), and asks Sekai if they can "train" again. Sekai says no. Next time he rounds the bases, it will be with Kotonoha. Anyway, he stumbles into Kotonoha somewhere and they make up. She invites him to a water park! Will there be hilariously awkward suggestive scenes here? I bet 1/17th of my left testicle on it.

Starting to sense a formula with wacky school hijinx first, then serious business conspiracy shounen later. It's a bit like watching two different shows, except it kinda works here?

lol @
Judge Dredd giving the toy to the baby to show he's a jerk with a heart of gold
. This is Zetsuen's levels of pompousity.
These kind of snide putdowns really get under my skin.
You should only feel irritated if you are hyping bad shows. I know hosanna has better taste than that!
It's more I assume the censorship in general will make more sense if/when the more graphic violence turns towards other people. It'll be pretty fucked up if there's nothing else that needs to be uncensored on the first bluray though, I'll give you that.
Maybe I'm just being too sentimental since I just got a dog recently. :'(
Ultra violence is pretty disgusting.
While I agree up to a point, it's rarely a good idea for artists to self-restrain themselves when there are works that clearly benefit from the gore.

Give definition to that.

I'm fine with blood pool and mutilation, but any detail of that are too much for me... or not lol.

Psycho-Pass kind of gore is the worst kind for me.

I was kinda joking. There's a place for everything. Some people will enjoy ultra-violence, and it's not really my place to say that they shouldn't enjoy it.

I personally am kinda squeamish, so I can't handle organs unless it's done in a ridiculous way like Bakemonogatari. Psycho Pass was kinda this way for me. It was so surreal that I couldn't take it seriously. Honestly, it isn't as much ultra-violence that gets me as much as it is torture like the nail shaving I see popping up from time to time. The more relatable it is, the more it bothers me.

Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! 3

Holy shit, this show is incredible. Somehow every character is the best character.

I'm so excited! Blonde girl gets introduced this episode, right? I can't wait! (For the episode. I don't really have a reason to be excited for blonde girl yet, but if you say she's cool then I'm looking forward to it more.)

While I agree up to a point, it's rarely a good idea for artists to self-restrain themselves when there are works that clearly benefit from the gore.
I definitely agree with this most of all. If a show is enhanced by gore, it should use it. Doesn't mean I'll watch it or like it though. :)

That's simply not true. Even if it is, the problem is just on the anime. Just compare the first episodes (good example - Zoro vs Mihawk "fight") with any scene with lots of blood after Moria's arc.

Like, imagine a battle in Legend of the Galactic Heroes if we had black shadows casting over every decapitation/slashing/incineration/guts spilling out of soldiers' intestines? So boring, and so totally against the message of the show.
We're all friends here. "fuckers" is probably just a term of endearment.
In the list of fuckers who have dared to fuck like no fucker has fucked before, you are fucker number three.

Early OP may have a lot of blood, but stuff is still censored compared to the manga. In the Baratie arc,
Zeff didn't just severe his leg to save Sanji, he fuckin ATE it off.

Yeah, I remember that. It wasn't really a problem, since it was never show in manga too. But it was censoring, that's for sure. It's airing on a kids slot after all.

Looks like there's also a Gatchaman OVA (with Umetsu designs too), but I guess that's it.

We could count Tekkaman Blade among those types of remakes, but it's a TV show, and I think it's considered to be good by most people.

Ultra violence is pretty disgusting.

There is nothing worse than stuff like Ninja Scroll. It's just wretched and utterly deplorable stuff. I realize theres an audience for that kind of stuff but I'll never understand it. It's just completely grotesque and really the ultra violence is only used to cover up the fact that there isn't a whole lot going on with the rest of the show/movie/whatever.

Violence for the sake of violence is stupid, I agree. But when it makes sense, there's no need to censor it (specially if it's not a kiddies show), as it improves the impact of the scenes.

That's kinda what I imagine Queen's Blade to be like, except with violence replaced by fetish service.

No offense to any fans. I haven't actually watched it, so I don't really know much about it.

Haha, I know a couple of people who are into martial arts shows solely for the fighting. I don't particularly feel that it's stupid to watch a show for superficial reasons like violence or fanservice, but that's just me.

Isn't the reason for the strong censorship today on violence because of 2 years ago since those incidents at Akihabara (among other reasons) or am I not remembering right?

Episode 1 flowed extremely well and coupled with the music and fun characters it was a highly enjoyable first episode.

Artfully-executed grotesquery is its own reward when it's fresh and unique. It just has a bad name now because it's both commonplace and done on shoestring budgets by animators who would rather be drawing little girls.

Guys that artist harem show is totally cool.

Cant wait for more cabbage room installations.

I doubt it will be a harem unless the teacher gets involved.
Cabbage girl is probably going to go after ladykiller-kun, and get friendzoned. That's what I hope will happen at least.

It's not like watching only for a thing is wrong, everyone has their reasons, if they are valid for them, that's all that matters.

Man, this episode cranked the wahjah up to 11. Entertaining as hell (especially the
"fight" at the end
which was absolutely hilarious) but... damn. Fuck me if it isn't almost painfully hard to watch this. I couldn't help but pause it and look away every now and then. Few shows can intentionally pull that off so props to KyoAni I guess.

In new anime news:

Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi Game for Female Players Gets Anime

The official website for the anime brand Prime Time announced that an original anime adaptation of little-cheese's Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi game has been green-lit for early winter next year.

In this otome game (game aimed at female players), the heroine Kanade Katagiri stopped going to school and became a hikikomori (shut-in) who never left her home. She then has a dream where a mysterious voice tells her to go out, and she steps outside for the first time in nearly a year. She encounters four young men with whom she develops yandere (seemingly caring yet unhealthy) relationships.

AnDerCen, a new brand spinoff from Prime Time (Tight-rope, Maiden Rose, Hey! Class President, A Foreign Love Affair, Kirepapa), is producing the anime. AnDerCen has not revealed if the anime will be for adults only or for general audiences, but Prime Time and AnDerCen say that they will provide the latest information about the anime soon.

The original adults-only adventure game shipped for Windows computers on December 4, 2010. It already inspired drama CDs and a manga.

Now even your otome lead can be yandere!
