Kyoukai no Kanata ep2

Action and animation are great but the direction is still terrible. And that catgirl Mom.....I thought Kyoani is above than that but then I realized they made Chunnibyou.

Gon was struggling only because he didn't want to go all out .if he took care of one , then the other would have alerted more leading to more trouble , their goal is after all the king and getting caught/spotted is not good. That's why gon was forced to not use most of his arsenal.

Yeah, but that's only because he couldn't take out the bat. The bat even came close (landing hits) and Gon couldn't even touch him. At first it was explained that it was because he was being distracted by feathers, but then there was one part where Gon had the bat where he wanted him, punched, and just missed... with no explanation (I guess we just have to assume that the bat is just so much faster than Gon).
I think what bothers me the most is that both of them were so weak that they couldn't even hurt Gon the entire time. If they were actually strong enough to hurt him, it might seem like a desperate situation worthy of an episode. Instead it's pretty much Gon just trying to squash two pesky mosquitoes.

Saikano 1

This main male character is beyond butt ugly, holy shit. Actually, everyone in this show is kinda poorly drawn.

But the setting is pretty cool. Almost had me thinking it was gonna be by-the-numbers school romance.

Can I get more of that baller guitar solo rock soundtrack please? Thanks in advance.

Congrats. You just started the most soul crushingly depressing anime ever.

So when you gonna watch Hyouka?

Probably never? I still need to watch so much mecha anime. The only reason I'm watching Panty and Stocking is because I needed something entirely different from Victory Gundam to make me forget about it, and I'd run out of Inferno Cop.

Probably SDBurton with all things considered.

You're right. Ali ain't got no :chet, so definitely the realm of :SDBurton. How could I have missed that? Still, Solange. Also I think Zozo might be voiced by Yoko. Zozo is making me think things.

The eternal question: Would you rather have gunpla nerd mom or cat girl cosplay mom?

Gunpla nerd mom. Can you imagine having Ramba Ral as your step-dad? Holy crap. Like, you would grow up to be such an amazing guy.

Kyoukai no Kanata 2

Christ, KyoAni. How did this story even make it past the preliminary round let alone get an Honorable Mention in your scam of a contest?

Ooh, they're doing a rerelease of the Mushishi Blu-ray box set in Japan this December. MSRP this time is 23000 yen, about 10000 yen less than the original release four years ago. Doesn't have English subtitles, but hey, it's nice to know that someone somewhere thought it was worth another release.

The first few minutes are hilarious. Everything after that is merely amusing.

Still, this premise has potential, so I'll keep watching for now.

I thought you wanna be cool with watching show that AnimeGAF loved like Flower of Evil and Wolf's Children. If so Hyouka's next.

Maybe its 4th placed from 5 participant.

It reminded me of Snafu in some ways, though it's also a bit weirder. Still, it's amusing enough to keep in my CR queue for now. I really need to drop (or finish) a few shows, though. I've got like 18-20 things in my queue.

Gon punch missed because the bat was messing with gon senses with sounds.

You're right on the rest,however

I do like my post-apoc scenery porn, I do. Mixed feelings about the art so far. Don't have a problem with the filter, and the backgrounds are really nice, but the character art feels weird to me. I don't really mind the heavy outlines from a stylistic front (or rather, I think it's weird but I can accept it and get used to it), but they're not consistent with it, which is jarring. The general designs of the main trio also feel a little off to me, although it's hard to pinpoint why. The characters seem like fairly typical archetypes so far, but that's excusable since it's still early on in the series so they have plenty of time for development.

Complaints aside, I did overall enjoy the episode. Aside from my previously mentioned problems with the art, I think it looks quite nice, and the setting has potential. I can't think of that many straight-up sci-fi post-apoc Japanese stuff that doesn't have a fantasy element to it. Also good to see a post-apoc setting that's not just brown and grey. It also was actually not as lighthearted as I expected it to be. I hear episode 2 is an improvement, so I'll watch it soon.

I don't think one person in here has actually professed to liking Kyoukai no Kanata this far.
I'm really enjoying it so far. I mean, there's probably some bias in there for KyoAni production values, but it's been fun enough through the first two episodes.

I finished Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo?, and I just had a stroke typing that name. But I liked it, God Mode Sue protagonist and all. That final episode with DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN

Kinda in love with this. Each scene slowly peels back the mystery surrounding the series, even as new questions pile up, yet this doesn't feel bothersome, only tantalizing. There's a level of sophistication in regards to its visual direction and writing that's quite surprising. Maybe the depth is just an illusion. It's too early to truly know, but I am hopeful.

It's amusing, and surprisingly touching. There's a level of cruelty hinted at, oh-so-casually, in the abandonment of the children. We understand Myoe's plight without ever needing to be told of his troubles. It remains fun, even as sad intimations of years spent in captivity threatens to spill out.

The direction keeps a steady hand on the pace without letting up on interesting imagery. There's some great layouts as we go, especially near the end when the Myoe is talking to his lover. It's . . . hip as fuck. It reminds me of what Gatchaman Crowds wanted to be, but without the rushed production and the poor art. There's a cohesive feel to even the colors, just a steady confidence in what they're making, what they're doing.

Easily the best thing this season.

It's divided in three chapters but it was basically a continuous storyline, I wonder if this means the episodes will play out roughly like a normal anime episode throughout the run. I hope they'll have room for loose 7min experiments like they did with the 2012 ONAs.

But still, the thing is great and doesn't lose any of its flair when it has to slow down to flesh out setting and characters. Cool transitions and framing throughout the episode, solid drawings and animation and it's full of ideas. I can't wait for the next because if they do to the first ONA what they did to the fifth in this it'll be great.

Well, that didn't take long, did it? But I was having the urge to watch Infinite Stratos again and I just wouldn't stand for it.

Maho-dou is a sweet shop now, which seems like a pretty natural transition actually. And there's a new girl in the group. But she doesn't speak Japanese. I'm kinda wondering how they communicated so well now. Anyway, for an anime character, her English is actually pretty good. Much better than that British dork in Smile Precure.

But right now, my highest priority is to see Hana-chan again. Why isn't she back yet, dammit?

So where's this magical list of recommended anime from AnimeGAF? I'm curious how many of them I can scratch out/show interest in and I'm currently looking for finished shows to marathon through.

While watching I was reminded of Kenji Nakamura's Toei shows, particularly Mononoke. There's a certain similarity in the sophistication of the visual language and stylization, and in some of the particular directing and editing tricks on display.

This "list" is not so much a list of recommended anime as it is a list of...very special anime. It's a bit hard to explain. I think madp controls it.

How many off the List have you watched?

Uh, Code Geass, Garzey's Wing, School Days and something else I've probably blocked out. Been awhile since I've seen The List n all.

Arjuna is a show that requires high intellect to understand and discuss.

Welp, I'm out then.

Yes. Watch Arjuna Corvy kun, because its easier.

Branduil just said it is for smart people.

Yami To Boushi To Hon No Tabibito.

I thought I already watched Garzey's Wing?

I don't think she was voiced by Yoko, but I don't know.

I'm not crazy.

So Kyousogiga is comparable to Mononoke? Eh....... Anything else to compare it to?

I'm trying to think of something, but I'm coming up with vague similarities. I was reminded a bit of Abenobashi and a bit of Ikuhara (the MPD Ikuhara at least), as well as all the colourful stuff that is indeed similar to Nakamura's stuff.

I'm content with calling it its own thing, so whatever.
