I'm surprised it's taking SAO this long to get a new season considering how much the anime kiddies absolutely adore the ever living shit out of it.

Forum poster 1:I've been trying to find an anime like SAO
Forum poster 2: GURL. LISTEN. AIN'T NOTHING LIKE SAO. TRUST ME. DAT SHIT MAGICAL.

Introduce them to Infinite Stratos? Its pretty much the same misogynist male fantasy.

I welcome a new season of SAO. Praise our A-1 overlords.
I'm still not entirely quite sure what your exact stance is on SAO. You think it's bad but still love it? You think it's stupid but still love it? Only the parts adapted for the anime so far are bad and the rest of the series is better?

They're not really "recommended" because they're good, but because of other reasons. You've been warned.

  • AD Police OVA
  • Angel Cop (dub) (caveats)
  • Bagi, The Monster of Mighty Nature
  • Baoh (dub preferred)
  • Black Lion (dub)
  • Blood-C
  • Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
  • Crystal Triangle
  • Cyber City Oedo 808 (dub)
  • Dark Cat (dub)
  • Dog Soldier
  • Dracula: Emperor of Darkness (dub)
  • Earth Maiden Arjuna
  • Garzey's Wing (dub)
  • Glass Fleet: Legend of the Wind of the Universe (dub a plus)
  • Golden Laws
  • Goku: Midnight Eye (tentative)
  • Hermes: Winds of Love
  • ICE (footnote: most incomprehensible ever)
  • Kenya Boy
  • Kuttsukiboshi OVA
  • Laws of Eternity
  • Laws of the Sun
  • Mad Bull 34(dub a plus)
  • Mars of Destruction
  • Melody of Oblivion
  • Musashi Gundoh
  • Rebirth of Buddha
  • School Days
  • Shuffle (major caveats)
  • Street Fighter 2 V (with caveats)
  • Sukeban Deka (dub)
  • Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 (Madpierrot personal recommendation but nobody else has seen it)

I'm going to have to manually add Black Rock Shooter to this list every time, aren't I?

Motto! Ojamajo Doremi 2

Backstory on Momo was kinda touching, but considering witch lifespans, Majo Monroe must have been fucking old. Or sick I guess. Wonder if they'll let the earring slide for now or if she'll take it off during classs.

Random question: Pop actually never stopped being a witch apprentice, right? Her crystal didn't shatter at the end of #, so she should still be one. Wonder if she's been continuing this whole time.

And hwere the fuck is Hana-chan? Seriously. She's in the OP; she has to be involved at some point, and it's going to be super emotional to have them reunited.

She never really stopped.

Also give Hana a few episodes. I think... like 4 more or so.

Introduce them to Infinite Stratos? Its pretty much the same misogynist male fantasy.

If we're taking about male fantasies, there are plenty of harem shows where the male is this overpowered unique motherfucker surrounded by females who absolutely must have his dick.

Most are bad... but once in a while. Once in a while we get GREATNESS.

I absolutely just love that they are starting to reveal the backstory of what's going on. Man, just learning about the world was magnificent.

I think I am literally out of ways to say how good this is and how everything else I'm going to watch in the rest of the night will just pale in compare to this.

The art direction here is just too damn good.

Suddenly the original OVA episode makes a bit more sense after this episode.

While not quite as action packed as episode 00, this remains every bit as ambitious. There's a lot of mystery to be found and I can imagine some might be a bit lost with what's going on but I'm sure that more information will slowly unravel as the series goes on. I think having watched the previous short series helps a bit too. I'm in love with the art direction and character designs here and there's plenty of thoughtfully placed layouts through out this episode. The soundtrack is absolutely lovely as well.

This just got tied as my favorite show of the season next to Kill La Kill.

And there's a new girl in the group. But she doesn't speak Japanese. I'm kinda wondering how they communicated so well now. Anyway, for an anime character, her English is actually pretty good. Much better than that British dork in Smile Precure.
Momoko's VA actually learned English abroad, so while the lines she's given aren't always the best you can clearly tell she knows what she's doing, most notably the change of accent.

Oh, that was really good. Very nice art, great use of color. The show works well slowed down from the manic pace of the ONA, and it had a surprising undercurrent of sadness that added some depth to it.
Interesting that in this version apparently Koto (the girl, not the rabbit woman) is some sort of extra-dimensional operative, not an innocent trapped in the mirror world. Also there're a bunch of dimensions.
Really like what they've revealed of the story so far, and really looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Like NeoSoma, tied with Kill La Kill for favorite show so far.

I think Koto ends up getting trapped in mirror Kyoto. Episode 00 takes place later, chronologically, that's why she already knows everyone and wants to escape the place.

That makes sense. I wasn't thinking of Episode 00 as a chronological episode so much as the entire series squished into a single episode, but that makes more sense. It doesn't seem like she came to Mirror Kyoto from non-mirror Kyoto though.

Well... he is kinda still in school the entire time, so he's not really a NEET.

Also doesn't he technically work for the government or something in the newest arc

Really they just need him to fuck his sister to save the human race.

Did I mention he had to be a woman at the time?

Its the worst kind of male power fantasy because it preys on the weaknesses of the audience.

YOU can be this badass dude who girls fall all over themselves for and you don't even need to do anything. Just continue sitting at home in front of the PC and playing videogames!

The president has been kidnapped by Ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to stay inside and play video games?

Kyoukai no Kanata 2

Well I liked the action!....... I guess.

I think there are times where reminding me of some other series isn't exactly a good thing, and KnK certainly falls in that catagory as well. I mean it does feel like it's trying to hit a checklist on popular shows/LNs/etc have that make them special, and isn't putting it to good use.

At this point, Action porn would be a nice. Like... the original Advent Children in where it "attempts" to set up plot, only for it to be a glorified porn film full of action.

Actually, that doesn't have complete meaning for this episode here. BUT there was some fujoshi moments in this episode, so I guess KyoAni will keep going at em like that. But really, it might be better to stray away from Light novel adaptations. Auugh.

JINNAI!!

This is as good a time as any to remind everyone that a BAGI, THE MONSTER OF MIGHTY NATURE dvd release is currently being solicited on retro anime crowdfunding site AnimeSols. There are 64 days left in the funding period and it's not looking too likely at this point, but this is your only chance to support a true AnimeGAF "classic".
Still North American only. rip

As far as I've read in the wiki, nope. Kirito just jumps from game to game.

There is some school stuff in the novels, at least the bits I've read. The kids who were all trapped in the game(s) are put into a special school. In part because they are all so far behind, in part I think because of their physical recovery.

At last my years of not taking care of my body or personality have begun to pay off!

That's actually the plot of the hentai based on the anime.

It's terrible that I thought I was making this up.

Gokudo 1-26 END

What happened when Cajunator decided to do a Slayers-type show that was more like Bastard! but with more Japanese supernaturalism. Insufferable protag, but decent supporting cast. In short, it was watchable enough without ever being good.

Also, most if not all scene transitions featured this bunny girl who does not appear as an actual character:

AKB0048 Second Stage 1-13 END

This was only disappointing when you consider how much more Kawamori it could have been, but otherwise it went along as much as one could expect. Props for the
Night on the Galactic Railroad
reference.

Friend of mine apparently stated he watched somethign that was similar to Chapter 16.5 of SAO when I brought details to them. So I guess that's the name of the parody then.

Can't wait to cross post about Kill La Kill to support the OT.

Super Robot Taisen OG: Divine Wars 01

It wasn't bad but I have never been a big fan of mecha shows and this didn't sell me enough to want to keep going on the stuff not mecha related.

I really like the idea presented in SAO. It's pretty cool. However the execution is pretty bad. I'd say overall the show is pretty bad but I still like it because I derive some enjoyment out of it. There are some neat ideas, cool events, and nice/sweet moments. I like to think that there are people out there who think something is good but recognize it's not for them. On the flipside, there are people who recognize that something is bad but like it regardless.

That's like me with Birdemic and The Room. Even the english dub of the Ghost Stories anime.

So bad it's good.

Momo and Aiko seem to get along pretty naturally. They do have a lot in common, now that they showed just how Aiko was when she first transferred and how Doremi and Hadzuki first reacted to her. It's easy to forget that they were so negative about her in the beginning.

That scene with Reika talking to that squishy duck was pretty sad and pathetic. I know the show has made the point before that Reika tries hard to overcompensate for her shyness a lot of the time, but again, it's easy to forget. But Momo wants to be her friend. That's nice. Maybe this'll lead to good changes for Reika.

Well, I guess that leaves me as one of the few remaining consistent contributors to AnimeGAF who recognizes SAO has faults but still thinks of it as having more good than bad overall.

No. This is definitely not the case. So bad so good would be Valvrave. If I had to put it properly I would say Valvrave isn't good by any standards honestly. There are no redeeming elements of that show that makes me care about it at all. The theme it presents, the events that happen, and the characters do not make me care.

Sword Art Online is different though. While I think the way the episodes were laid out and the events executed were cheesy, poor, and completely unrealistic I think there are redeemable elements in there. I can understand being stuck in a video game that has aspects of real life can make it appear as though your life in the video game is actually real. I can understand that sometimes people get desperate and try to look for things to attach themselves to. I can also understand and believe that, despite the ludicrous romantic background Asuna and Kirito have, their interactions are genuinely sweet for the most part. There are many aspects of SAO that scream out potential and that fascinates me. Even if the show fell flat on its face I enjoyed it because those sparks of interest still exist. With Valvrave, it's just a roller coaster ride of stupidity. That's all it'll be known for. With SAO I can go on and on about why it's neat.

I'm too young for ulcers, Kayos.

Lol. I'll pay for the medical bill.
