The first episode of Black Rock Shooter TV is pretty silly, but you don't really understand what you're in for until the second episode when Yomi's mom shows up. You're thinking "finally, an adult," and then she turns out to be just as insane as all of the children. That's when you know it's something special.

Image two is where I realized Samurai Flamenco was probably going to be generic garbage/ a less interesting fujoshi-bait retread of Kick-Ass.

Image three is where I put it on the "I guess I'll watch this" list of horror, along with that thing where she eats her nee-san.

It's easy to tell that this is an anime-original story, because the writing is a lot less literary than the other episodes. Oreki being tacitern both orally and mentally helps to create that impression. The "mystery" is the worst one in the series, as it has no relation to the characters, is utterly banal, and completely pointless - there's no reason someone couldn't have simply approached the woman and asked if she had an earring or not. There were a few nice character moments though, and an attempt to provide some fallout from the effect of the film arc on Oreki. I don't agree with those (firehawk) who say this is the most important episode of the series or whatever though.

Space Brothers 71:
That costume they put Mutta in was ridiculous.

I'm happy to see that they're trying to do some interesting things with Hibito now, and he's not being so obnoxiously perfect.
It makes a lot of sense for him to be running into panic issues related to his experience, so I'll be curious to see how he can cope with this. It makes it clear that even though he survived, that near death experience is going to stay with him for a long time.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-10-11/stage/voice-actor-tomoyuki-dan-passes-away

The acting agency and theater company Seinenza announced on Friday that stage actor and voice actor Tomoyuki Dan passed away on Thursday, October 10 at 11:49 p.m. in his home due to recurring aortic dissection. He was 50.

The actor was born under the name Yoshio Tanaka in Osaka on August 6, 1963. He joined Seinenza in 1987 and began a long career in stage productions. He also appeared in such films as Madadayo, the final film from acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa, and he played Shinkurō Isaka in Kamen Rider W.

Dan was arguably best known inside and outside Japan for voice-acting work in both Japanese dubs of foreign films and anime projects. He dubbed Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman character in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. He also played Cronicle Asher in Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, Kisame Hoshigaki in Naruto Shippūden, Orihara-sensei in Air Gear, and Minami in La Corda D'Oro - primo passo.

Among his final roles this year were Ishikawa in Ghost in the Shell Arise and Kōjirō Honda in il sole penetra le illusioni ~ Day Break Illusion.

Fuck. I loved him in Kamen Rider W. :(

RIP

As it turns out, Watamote literally sold just below the cutoff from the short list, showing once again how a high BD cutoff can hide shows that actually didn't sell completely terribly.

Updated Summer 2013 Preliminary First Volume Sales list. Shows that have new numbers or improved their position are bolded:
31,456 *4 Free! [DVD+BD]: 2013/09/11

Shows with a [●] dot were sold on DVD but did not rank in that format due to cutoffs, meaning their "true" sales are probably a bit higher. For the better-selling shows like that (Kinmoza, Illya, Neptune, Uchoten), it means possibly several hundred "missing" DVD sales.

Don't think I'm digging it so far. Half the character designs aren't sitting right with me and I'm not into the antagonist. Maybe if they focus more on the sisters I'll warm up to it.

Interesting premise so far regarding the focus of the 3 sisters of the Galileo though it was slow at first but it pick up near the end with some action.

I still think the 'mystery' in that episode was a fabrication by the other three. I realize this doesn't have a lot of basis in the text, but it fits neatly with the apparent non-mystery nature of the thing (search for a ring) and the different way characters act. Of course it could just be that Takemoto isn't very good at this 'mystery' thing, unlike Yonezawa.

Even if Watamote bombed, at least it didn't super-bomb like Kitakubu or C3-bu.

The fact that it outsold Genei/Daybreak Illusion is slightly surprising, though.

Yonezawa wrote the story though. Takemoto scripted it.

Honestly, my suspension of disbelief didn't truly break until episode 4. The whole whiplash from dealing with one rotten situation to another totally lost me, and at that point I couldn't stop laughing.

I love all the small background details that trigger hides in plain sight. I did not catch these my first time through and I'm sure there's a lot more. Like:

Why were they eating the grub croquettes when they could being that chicken?

I didn't notice much of a difference plot-wise so maybe you're talking about pacing?

Nope they definitely changed some stuff...plot remains the same, just the order of things and how things happen have been changed somewhat. Comparing the first episode to the first chapter it becomes pretty obvious

Gingitsune episode 1

I'm a little bit tired of the whole "baka" 'trope' or whatever that's so common in anime. Where someone says that as an emotional outburst. It might seem like an aspect of Japanese culture, but it seems more clearly to fit into a certain archetype of character.

It seems less like something people just do, and something more like it is done to make characters seem cute and a little more tsundere influenced. Character development is nice, but I wish she were a little more mature to begin with. The situation feels a bit forced.

I believe much of what happened this episode is what a lot of people derogatorily refer to as "melodrama". I'm a total fall for melodrama, so I loved it. I can't watch melodramatic bits of anything without crying.

Though I do wish this show tried to do so to me without doing it in such a... cliche fashion. I feel... emotionally moved and unimpressed at the same time. And I get the feeling I'll like this anime a lot less than Kamichu!. Nonetheless I'll keep watching it.

When I saw the first scene of this I thought I'd accidentally fired up Arpeggio of Blue Steel.

Not feeling it at all. Vague Fractale vibes. All of the characters who got more than a few lines are grating in one respect or another, especially the eldest sister who is basically Lawful Good-bot. She's like Sakurakouji Sakura without the endearing dorkiness or any hint of self-awareness in how the show portrays her. The other two sisters aren't actively offensive, but we're supposed to swallow the idea that these are average moe girls who just happen also to be mechanical geniuses without this rather extraordinary aspect of their identity permeating throughout their overall demeanor and behavior. There's no eccentricity or wit; their "skill" is all too cleanly walled off from the rest of their identities and so there's a jarring disconnect between their behavior and their assumed level of intelligence.

I've always disliked the hereditary talent trope in anime, and with their prideful mother continually lording their ancestry over them, I certainly hope that their abilities aren't ultimately implied to exist just because they're Galileo's ancestors rather than that fact simply having served as the motivation for the family to become prodigious engineers. Hopefully future episodes can remedy my concerns with the characterization.

I also see they're taking the Arcana Famiglia route of "we want to give this show an Italian feel but don't actually know anything about Italy so we'll just have characters say 'bambina' sometimes and give them the only globally ubiquitous Italian surname we know" approach to setting.

Well, I've now looked through the fall chart of anime. And I'm pressed to find something that personally interests me. Gingitsune was the first that caught my attention. But upon a closer look, there isn't much else that sticks out to me as interesting.

I think that most people here know my taste. Would someone here please recommend me an anime?

Trailer for the upcoming Production I.G. film Giovanni's Island. It looks promising.
http://www.productionig.com/contents/works_sp/94_/index.html
In the aftermath of the most devastating conflict mankind had ever experienced, the tiny island of Shikotan became part of the Sakhalin Oblast... and on the unhealed border in this remote corner of the world, friendship among children from two different countries timidly blossomed, striving to overcome language barriers and the waves of history. Inspired by true events.

The story follows two boys, big brother Junpei and little brother Hirota, who live on a once peaceful northern island between Japan and the Soviet Union with their parents. In 1945, first love and tragedy entered their lives. The story depicts their blossoming love for a Russian girl, the chaos and fear from an army occupation, and the bonds of family.
It also says Production I.G will handle the worldwide distribution of the film outside of Japan, so...

When the pirate dude said "Salvatore", all I could think of was that scene in Inglorious Basterds where Brad Pitt says arrivederci over and over.
