Kill La Kill 1 (rewatch)

Giving this another go.

  • Like how the uniforms actually enhance the wearer as established early on.
  • Tiering them off is kinda neat. grunt one stars, two star folk, etc.
  • I guess the notion of the uniforms being a proprietary secret other regions are after is something that'll come back later rather than just some throwaway line.
  • Jacket Ryuko was the superior design.
  • all dem sexy postcards
  • pacing felt a lot better on rewatch

kyousogiga - The 5 ONAs last year are short enough that watching them wouldn't be a bad idea. They're certainly worth the time.

Golden Time 2

Tea club is the best club. I like Tada as a character but
you sort of can tell he probably going to turn on Mitsuo for Kaga sooner or later.
Also I wonder if Linda
is crushing on Tada.

Strike the blood ep 2

Still ok so far but the short action was nice. Himeragi sure like to wear unique pantsu, first a colorful one, now striped.

Wow, leaps and bounds more interesting than episode one. While episode one was driven by Akihito, this one at least had finally threw in another good component to give one of the most memorable scenes so far this season. Though answers werent given at least the comedy of Akihito and Hiromi made it a blast. I hope he does that everytime, just like here and also in that one magazine scan too.

Ending was a bit off for Mirai to be saying such sad things then a fairly happy toned sounding ED played. Don't really understand why she got all down like that and is dragging this plot out for now three episodes of this series twelve, but I hope she makes some change fast or something. Kudos to Akihito for having such patience

No Golden Boy on second list. Tsk tsk, Mr. Raven.

Also, Corvo, do you want some shitty mecha (i don't know if mecha is the right word. There are mechs though) show to watch, go watch Divergence Eve. Shit's pretty bad and has more fan-service than you can shake a....well, a stick at. But that's just lewd to say.

I totally agree.

Oh god Divergence Eve is horrible I didn't like the fanservice, and I watched this when I was a horny teenager looking for hentai everywhere, it was super boring.

You have to watch it Corvo.

Yay, I finally escaped from the addictive clutches of Pokemon X for the time being! It only held me captive for, uh, SEVEN STRAIGHT HOURS.

Now I can finally do other important things, like watching anime and consuming the sustenance I need to live. It may be a bit late to be eating dinner at 4:30 AM, but I guess that's just how things worked out >_____>

Who needs anime when you've got Pokemon?

Not me, that's for sure.

(Waiting for tomorrow is going to suuuuuuuuck why couldn't I live somewhere with a midnight release?)

Oh fuck you, Doremi. It was already bittersweet as it was, but you had to go and make it straight up heartwrenching by calling out to her. Hearing Hana-chan yelling "Mama!" like that could fuck up the heart of anyone.

Having now watched all the first episodes of the shows I'm interested in this season, I can make my determination of the shows I'll try to keep up with weekly:

Kyousogiga (because it's artistically daring)
Samurai Flamenco (because it's hilarious)
White Album 2 (because it's appealingly low-key J-drama)
Yozakura Quartet (for the spectacle)

I had fun with other stuff like Gundam Build Fighters and Yowamushi Pedal too, but I'll probably watch them in bulk later assuming quality keeps up. Got to finish the first season of Valvrave so I can jump back on that bandwagon too.

Kyousougiga - 1
Whoa, what an opener! Going back in time to see how Myoe's family was formed was so lovingly crafted that I couldn't help but get swept up along with it. The strong visual direction and concise storytelling was like a breath of fresh air coming off of the first ONA episode. The second half was done just as well, but it was the first 15 minutes that immediately sold me on the show. This was so good!

Valvrave the Liberator 1-2

...what?

Other than that, lots of pretty colors. Reminds me a bit of Gundam Seed. Not sure if that is good or bad thing yet, as this show is hella different in most everything other than looks.

The Light of El Cantare
Aikatsu! S2 2

Art wasn't horrendous like last week and the lame drama managed to resolve itself within minutes; the Futari wa Aikatsu Max Kats apocalypse is (tentatively) canceled.

I am glad that even though the opening makes it clear Seira is going to have a lot of screentime in the coming weeks, everyone from the first season isn't being forgotten. Ichigo's stay in America was also pleasantly charming. The whole segment confusing food with English homonyms made great use of Kaede.

Man, this is everything Geass wishes it was. So goofy and dumb, yet actually well done. The huge gap between the "quality" content and the great execution really makes this show quite special. It's so weird seeing something so dumb done so well. Second Season promises to be a hell of a ride.

Happy fun times with Kasuga and friends in the charming slice of life series, The Flowers of Evil.

The Flowers of Evil 8

gblblblbllk;lnkn,gn.

This episode was REALLY tense. Probably my favorite one so far, especially the walk at the beginning. Just that feeling of the low after the high of the end of the last episode, and the weird bonding between Kasuga and Nakamura.

The whole sequence from the school scene at the end of Episode 7 to the walk at the beginning of Episode 8 is probably my best anime sequence of the year so far, even if it's from two episodes. Strong ending for this episode, too. I'm glad Saeki's not an idiot.

A Dog with a hoodie? I enjoy the first meeting between tennis club captain and Ryuko. It was also good to get some questions answered.

Also watching Mako is going to be great all season long.

Valvrave 13

Yep, Valvrave is back all right. And we finally get
an explanation for why Haruto goes all vampire and bites/rapes people. Apparently he has to absorb the information energy from their bodies to power the Valvraves or something. Which is a pretty flawed explanation on numerous levels (if a single human can produce that much information energy, why couldn't he just produce it himself?) but eh, I'll take what I can get.

Anyway now we have Haruto x L-Elf as confirmed in-universe OTP, so the question of whether Saki or Shouko is the correct girl to choose is kind of moot.

Hopefully future episodes will focus more on Akira, because she didn't really get to do anything in this one besides sit in her VVV's cockpit looking vaguely cute. And she clearly deserves more focus than our two :DTL soulmate leads.

I'm glad you were able to appreciate the long walk scene. It turns off quite a few people due to its length, but I absolutely loved it and wanted to just soak in its atmosphere. The music against the imagery of the gradual coming of dawn was powerful.

Kyousougiga (TV) Episode 1

Wow this was fantastic. For some reason the style and vibrant colors reminded me of Katanagatari (never forget)

I have some questions that I'm not sure if they can be answered right now but...
Was the priest she was talking to in the beginning the head priest? Seems like it. Also is she the actual daughter of the head priest and Koto?

It's definitely another thing to add to the "Why this show is really polarizing list", but I thought it was great. I've always had a fondness for these sorts of really slow-paced "cool down" scenes in media, and this show really knows how to use sound and music effectively. Plus, as you said, the imagery was really strong, the surroundings, the coming of dawn, Nakamura and Kasuga holding hands... Really well done.

Motto! Ojamajo Doremi 13

Step into the Grand Tour Grand Tour! To the place where Momoko's mother was born, and it's all about the dreeeeams. With a random kid being the victim, as he wants to be a ship chef, but didn't understand what it really meant...

And then it turns out him and his dad aren't random afterall, they're tied to Momoko's mother.

Also Hana is here.

EDIT: Cut this short because of an emergency, but good god, how Hana reacted when Doremi got hurt saving her. Haaana ;-;

InuYasha 86

Pretty boring even for a canon episode, all we learned is that since Naraku has "vanished" weak demons are now making a move for the sacred jewel shards... which with the exception of like 3 have all been found... why was this a plot point again?

Hana-chan!!!!!!!

I had hoped that they would be allowed to keep her at the Maho-dou, but it looks like she'll be relegated to appearing every once in a while. I...guess that's fine. As long as the episodes are as cute and funny as this one. That song Momo sang was catchy. And it was best at the end when Hana was trying to sing along.

Good to see Hana-chan and Oyajide are still tight at least. I loved how he was just going to leave her there at the Maho-dou unsupervised. And then he was pissing off everybody at the movie theater by not shutting the fuck up.

Nagi no Asukara Episode 2 – The Chilly Desert
tumblr_mujdxe7eMz1qbxqfpo1_500.png

Wow getting emotional already and its just the second episode, praise the storytelling in this wonderful environment. Hikari is easy to connect with and just seeing all the trials and tribulations he has to go through makes it hilarious to even saddening at times.
those aggravating stares and anger outbursts even, if only people could understand him. Manaka could also calm down or something, way too touchy of everything and then wanting to purposefully lie, something has to be wrong with her. But back to Hikari and now his sister too in that unfortunate situation, I think he may get some breakdown in this anime at some point. Perhaps Tsumugu can help him out.
.

The OP is still really catchy and good.

I'm going to be honest, this season has been really disappointing for me so far. Nothing even rises to the level of Rozen Maiden. Of course, there's plenty of time for improvement.

InuYasha 87

Kikyo episode zzz

We learn why Onigumo was all burned and messed up... but it doesn't feel like it was that important of a detail. Boring fight that wasn't very interesting.

The only thing good about this episode was the discussion about Kagome's butt

Well, this was crazy and fun.

The two older sisters aren't bad, but Hozuki is clearly best girl by far and needs to get all the screentime. She is made of the hnnnnghyes. And all those shots in the OP and ED of her wearing some kind of loose-fitting dungaree dress with nothing underneath certainly help to boost her win factor. That's weird and hawt.

Also, did somebody say affable yet fabulous villain(?) voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi? Because if they didn't, I feel the need to point out how awesome that is. I think we can definitely grant Araragi-voice a fully-fledged position on my growing list of seiyuu man-crushes.

In other news, who's willing to bet that
the goldfish itself is somehow the treasure that all these people are hunting the sisters down for
? Seems oddly likely at this point. Though to be fair, I'm pretty sure a
great big fuck-off flying-goldfish-mech
should count as a pretty significant "treasure" in and of itself.

ah see the other day i was just thinking "i want to see that list of mecha anime on GAF but how to search for it"
i have a mecha-shaped gap in my anime knowledge, only non-recent thing on that list i've watched is Eva, i want to watch & understand!

love 50s Film Noire and loved Asimov’s books as a kid so will probably start with The Big O
think i watched the first couple episodes of FMP S1 and wasn't really feeling it, is it ok to skip ahead to 2nd Raid?

No, well, I mean. You should definitely watch at least Fumoffu before the Second Raid, because much of The Second Raid is about putting the main romance through the ringer, and without the development of two shows, a lot of impact is lost. I'd recommend watching all of FMP, but if you're not feeling, it, I dunno. It's my FAVORITE, but not necessarily THE BEST.

But please watch The Big O. Everyone needs to see that show.

Yea, Final Fantasy Unlimited is not what I would call a good anime, that Gonzo touch.

Haha, I confess that much of my like of the show is rooted in the fact that I will forever dig Makenshi's theme, and because who doesn't love Chobi?

Now that is an impressive list, Corvo, I've even picked up some stuff to watch. It also reminded me that i really need to get around to watching The Big 0, because I love that kind of noiry retrofuturist stuff.

If my list accomplishes nothing more than to get more people to watch The Big O, then it will have been a force for good.

Listening to the Shingeki No Kyojin OST reminded me that not only does it have kickass intros it also is one of the better OST's to come out for anything in a while.

I only hate the 2nd OP. Everything else in the show is pretty kicking, musically.

Wait how can one like ZZ the best but hate the beginning?

That was when the show was at its best. Then it tried to take all those wacky characters and shoehorn them into serious roles to lead into Char's Counterattack

but at all times ZZ is a show where nothing any character does makes any sense at any given moment. I figured most UC fans liked to pretend this show didn't exist, so it's weird to see it as someone's favorite UC show. and for reasons that aren't even the strengths of the show.

Judau won the newtype ability lottery though. Ability to make every single female you come into contact with hopelessly attracted to you.

I felt like that was more Kamille's thing. Judau's power was to protect all the imoutos of the world. Haman Khan is secretly an imouto somewhere deep down. And I should note that I actually quite like the beginning of ZZ, but many folks don't. That said, I still prefer the second half, aside from them trying to suddenly make Mondo into a serious character. I thought they did a fine job of doing that to Judau, Roux, Beecha, Elle and Glemy, and seeing how Haman had left Chara and Mashmyre screwed up worked, too.

I'm a rare minority on this, I know, but I honestly think that ZZ does everything Zeta wanted to, but better, and I think that it is precisely that goofiness which enables it to. Zeta gets bogged down in all kinds of problems in the middle that ZZ, because it shrugs stuff off, never falls victim to. I'm crazy, but I legit think ZZ is the better show by a country mile. No Katz, no Sarah, no Reccoa, Char's corpse has been buried, no Poptarts Sriracha. ZZ was great for me, although it took a long while for me to warm up to.

I still haven't seen Golden Boy, and I kinda think I need to lay off bad mecha after Victory for awhile. I really, really need to see Macross, Getter, Mazinger, Patlabor, Giant Robo and the Buster shows. Also I still have to resume and finish Zegapain and Dual! Parallel Troubles.

OK i'll admit , you made me laugh with this.

If nothing else, my hope is that people will enjoy reading my complaints about AGE more than they did AGE.

Oh god Divergence Eve is horrible I didn't like the fanservice, and I watched this when I was a horny teenager looking for hentai everywhere, it was super boring.

You have to watch it Corvo.

Oooooh boy. Y'all's tempting the giant here. You know how I can't resist a bad show.

Who needs anime when you've got Pokemon?

Not me, that's for sure.

(Waiting for tomorrow is going to suuuuuuuuck why couldn't I live somewhere with a midnight release?)

Speaking of getting stuck in games, I bought Kid Icarus Uprising today. I don't get why I need the stand or even how to use it. Pit's a dweeb, but Palutena is fairly on her way to waifu. Here's hoping she doesn't turn out to be another awful JRPG Goddess.

There you have it Corvo.

Fine, fine.

Valvrave the Liberator 1-2

...what?

Other than that, lots of pretty colors. Reminds me a bit of Gundam Seed. Not sure if that is good or bad thing yet, as this show is hella different in most everything other than looks.

Have you watched Code Geass yet? Cuz the show is so much better if you've seen Geass.

What the hell, I feel like posting my IS waifu rankings.

France>Germany>>>>>>>>>>>>Japan>China=England.

Rin and Cecilia are both utterly bog-standard incarnations of their respective character archetypes. Who even gives a shit.

Houki is just as boring, but at least she's :chet.

The individual facets of Laura's personality are pretty well-worn, but at least the combination (no social skills army girl + crazy otaku girl) is somewhat novel.

Char is civilization. I trust I need not elaborate.

How unnecessarily confusing.

from what I'm getting of the show it doesn't seem like it's necessary to watch the ONA's as like others have mentioned they're stand-alone almost. Retelling.

I wasn't terribly confused this first episode besides a few questions here and there about the parents of what's-her-face

InuYasha 88

This episode was dumb, the only good thing to come out of it was boulder reaver soul stealer which made me laugh harder then I should have. But with this I've seen every canon episode of InuYasha up to the current block of filler which is currently on Toonami WOO!

Not sure whether I'll finish this show tonight or tomorrow.

The Flowers of Evil 9

Things are getting intense, yo, I have literally no idea how this is going to end, especially since it's apparently only a portion of the manga.
I assume Kasuga won't actually leave, but I wonder what's gonna happen now that everyone knows. Did Nakamura do all of this to force Kasuga to leave with her?
