Coppelion 3 - another nice episode giving us more details of the world and backstory, along with a mysterious new power group. Am wondering why rescued guy in hospital is still in his hazmat suit. Also...taking down a B2 with a rocket launcher is a tad optimistic. Speaking of which... guess that means its a rogue US faction.
So having finished this series I find myself fundamentally reevaluating how it is that I define a series / book / show as "good". I've found that up until now Ive probably put too much emphasis on the setting of a show and not enough on the importance of characters interacting within that setting as the fundamental factor for how I gauge its quality. It's a mistake that I believe came about chiefly because the only literature that I've really latched on to in my life have been from the Fantasy and SciFi genres and within these genres the settings presented tend to act as significant forces for how and why certain events play out. This sort of thing, while at the core of these particular genres, aren't necessary for telling an engaging and fundamentally captivating story and that's the revelation that I've had having finished Aku no Hana.
It was a mistake to initially put off this show simply because there was nothing inherently interesting about the world it was presenting. Superficially, the show really is just a school life drama, but the deeper story of a fall from grace and the commentary on the nature of humanity has brought me into its world in a way no other show or individual piece of science fiction this year has come close to matching. I highly doubt there is any more obvious a contender for Anime of the Year than this and I recommend anyone who has doubts about starting this show based on the school life setting alone to sincerely reevaluate that stance and give this show the shot it deserves.

Yeah, probably my AoTY as well. The school setting definitely shouldn't put people off. If anything its like a merciless slaughtering of every Japanese show that idealizes high school.. One of the things I find kind of interesting about AnH is that Kasuga is somewhat less of a nice guy than you usually see in "fall from grace"-type stories. He's not evil or twisted in the way that Nakamura thinks he is, at the start, but he's still starts off as basically a pretentious coward and gets worse from there. And yet he remains sympathetic because he's a fairly realistically drawn pretentious coward.
Interesting to hear it made you reevaluate your own thoughts on quality. Also reminded me I should really get around to reading the manga.
Although not as well executed, the scene in question isn't any lewder (in fact, is probably much less lewd) than your usual Monogatari scene that mocks Araragi for being a siscon/lolicon/pervert.
I still think the anime just looks really awkward and odd at times in any conversation orientated setting. Though when the action got going it did become fairly entertaining and watchable.
The backstory with the accident sounds quite interesting though if they could only go into more details.
Also that cell biology with ion exchange pumps in an anime...
*reads the last pages* I'm so glad I'm watching this instead of Beyond the Beyond like you suckers!!!
Coppelion - 3
Good episode, I like how episodes are connected yet being a self contained episodic story so far. This episode finally explains some brief things about the meltdown, I like where it's going now with this seemingly outsider faction.
this is for you guys who love filters, how many colors just in one shot?!! impressive!
this is Coppelion, one moment it makes you to vomit and then the other moment, it's just pretty good. The backgrounds consistently continue to impress, varied and detailed and it's not like they're reusing same location over and over again. It really feels like they're exploring and going deeper in the city.
I continue to dig this series very much, it's everything I wanted so far. Calm, quiet in a nuclear wasteland for the most part then stuff happens here and there and SCIENCE!
So uh, has Garterbelt been on a mission from God through a timeloop for all of history, or is he making that up? And has God been periodically sending him a piece of paper with a symbol on it from the beginning, or just screwing with him? Is Garterbelt's mission to stop Inferno Cop from becoming a Real God and drawing the ire of the Anti-Spirals?

if it wasn't for shooting themselves in the foot with those ugly filters, I could say they've done a great job even so far animating this, too bad filters are just too much at times, sadface

Damn, there was a lot of Iifting footage and material straight from the ONAs in this episode. Both the 2012 and the original 2011 ONA, which is a little odd since they already aired the latter in its entirety as Episode 0, but ah well.
The important thing about this episode is probably that it contained a lot of loli Koto and loli Koto is wonderful. She beats up little boys and has many scenes of superlative adorableness and doesn't afraid of anything.
Yeah, probably my AoTY as well. The school setting definitely shouldn't put people off. If anything its like a merciless slaughtering of every Japanese show that idealizes high school..
The environment presented in the school and the town in general is something almost hostile and the distance he puts between himself and the world around him compounds with the fact that his friends are very deliberately presented as not dependable and are only really 'friends' in the loosest of ways.

I wonder what possesses artists to think filters are the height of artistic endeavor. I bet they look at the Mona Lisa and think about how much better it would look with an orange and blue filter.

hyped for next week!
good luck taking down a B2 with a stinger! maybe it's possible at low altitudes, lol
I hope it's not full of drama drama drama like the preview suggests though...
The old guy is so gonna die, duh.
I continue to dig this series very much, it's everything I wanted so far. Calm, quiet in a nuclear wasteland for the most part then stuff happens here and there and SCIENCE!
But even your average Instagram hipster doesn't usually take all the red out of their pictures like Gohands does. Even looking at the Coppelion GIF makes my eyes water, just like K did.
Plus anime did the whole stupid lens thing years ago with all those interminable early episodes of Boogiepop Phantom with the pinhole camera effect.
"Guess which one Beth is." Oh man, I knew it was gonna get ugly when she said that. Still, Reika learned a very valuable lesson in this episode in that she learned not to be a racist shit. At least she actually felt really bad about it and made up with Momoko.
So in lieu of the ENG version of the 16th Pokemon movie and the first two episodes of XY both premiering this Saturday, I decided to watch the 15th Pokemon movie, as its the only movie I've yet to watch in ENG.
Let me just say: I already considered the Keldeo movie to be right alongside the first and the Lucario movie, as one of better Pokemon movies.
But hearing Edward Elrics voice coming out of Keldeo's mouth made the movie a whole lot more enjoyable to watch then listening to the JAP voice.
YUP. All of Coppelion is shot in instagram filters.
Angel Cop 2
CYBORG RAIDEN. YEARS BEFORE MGS4, EVEN. Also I have no idea what is going on but like, David Bowie and now the little Zippo girl from Stephen King's Fire Starter are blowing up terrorists and then arranging their corpses in bizarre ways on the wall. This is really gory and yet really boring. Like for a show with such weird stuff going on, it is just really boring.
Is it me, or is everyone slightly insane... except maybe Aiko. Majo Prima (more like Major Prima Donna amirite) is just so... sleepy, her forgetful antics pissed Onpu off, shouting about how she shouldn't make an idol wait, and then seeing Majo Prima with make up on created mixed feelings within her. Nevermind when they went out to study her. lol, someone's jealous.
Hazuki was going crazy over the fact that they were clueless, Momoko... was probably the one that has went insane, constantly shouting "THEN LETS ATTACK IT HEAD ON!" as if she learned a new phrase. Everyone else thought she went nuts. Everyone just got pissed so easily, Doremi goes insane the moment she runs out of barley tea, thus using her magic for trivial means, as much as it pissed Majo Rika, Onpu, and Aiko off.
....Oh yeah, and now Hazuki and Momoko have a secret spot. Sorry Momoko, but she's taken by Masaru. You still have Reika though.
Yeah, my one complaint with this show is that they need to lay off the filter overdose. Otherwise, I am enjoying this show, where it is going, and the themes it is exploring. I'm guessing if these dudes have a
B32 Bomber
, they're not small fries. I remember seeing those things fly over my elementary school once or twice as a kid, and it is the weirdest thing. Just a quiet, black triangle flying over your head. Anyway, Taeko remains best girl.
I don't see the problem with people finding issues with stuff like that on its own but it's when people try to say that KyoAni is somehow ABOVE shit like that when they've come out with shows like Free! and Chuu2 is what I find kinda funny.
KnK is like a billion times worse than Free! or Chuu2 even when it comes to pandering. It is like KyoAni are spiraling out of control, but at least Free! and Chuu2 were kind of consistent and forward with their pandering. KnK just seems to randomly dump a pile of weird fetishistic garbage in the viewer's lap, and that pile just keeps growing and growing.
But fetishistic garbage is fun to watch occasionally. Not if its ALL a person watches but its like yummy sweets. Nice to have sometimes. KyoAni bakes delicious cakes.
No, they don't have very much in common. In the second episode of KnK almost every bit of dialogue and encounter revolves around some weird sex joke. It is inescapable, and the show tries to straddle some weird line between titillation and comedy.
Oh hey did the plot just show up? Save the world from dystopia eh? Assuming John Titor can actually be trusted, which is basically up in the air. Wouldn't surprise me if it turns out he's manipulating Okabe somehow. Unless he is Okabe.
So time travel shenanigans are getting real in this episode! Changing the past and explaining (sort of) what happened way back in the first episode. When Okabe texted Daru about Kurisu's murder, that text was somehow a time text and that prevented Kurisu from being killed... Somehow. Who's the murderer anyway?
This show makes me crave chicken tenders and Dr. Pepper. Also Okabe/Kurisu OTP confirmed by Daru.
First half, it was a bit of a struggle, mainly because of the obnoxious rock and roll english being thrown around that made me cringe. Reminded me of that one Wizard from Sharp. Speaking of which, you would've thought the mid season climax would've happened already, but it hasn't. Banking on the next episode for that one.
That being said, the rest ended up being more about getting a cool dad back, with SINGING AT THE END.
