Yeah, I had the same feeling. I'm glad of that, because I think this show does have the potential to turn out pretty nicely.

Assuming it spends less time sitting around its apartment doing nothing and more time out there doing stuff.

Madoka Spoilers

Cool! I wonder what the Anti-Spirals are doing during all this. Have they already begun their killing spree? Or are they sitting down having a nice chat about energy in the universe with Kyubey somewhere? Before blowing his race to extinction due to too much energy harvesting.

At this point it is safe to conclude that
Homura, like Garterbelt, has been through time several times and that Madoka has turned herself into pure Spiral Energy. Kyubey's race has likely been wiped out by the Anti-Spiral Life Form, excluding himself. This is assuming that Kyubey and the Anti-Spiral Life Form are not members of the same species, with Kyubey having been a heretic who saw triggering the Spiral Catastrophe as the only way, ironically, to prevent the Spiral Catastrophe from happening. Anthy Himemiya no doubt once made her contract with Kyubey, and her wish was to seal away the Spiral Powers of Spiral Prince Dios, who afterward became Akio. In a cruel twist, the collective Spiral Energy of the people who were furious with Anthy at depriving them of their Prince then punished Anthy. It is this same energy which prevented the Rose Bride from going full Witch, and which required Utena, the Second Incarnation of Madoka, to release her own Spiral Power to free her. Utena's rejection of her rightful title as Spiral Prince results in the Adolescence of Utena, and leaves the title free for the Spiral King Lordgenome to claim as his own in the near future, after Ryuko defeats Satsuki.

Note that this is not necessarily the same time line in which
After Shinji Ikari triggers the First Third Impact in End of Evangelion, which is being witnessed by a young Second Misato who will feature in the events of Rebuild of Evangelion, but between Shinji's First and Second Third Impacts, Angel Rosewater, piloting the MegaDeus-Class Evangelion Unit Big Venus, triggers a Third Impact of her own, ending what traces of civilization had survived in the region of Paradigm City.

And all of this madness is without trying to explain how Future Century, After War, and After Colony all figure into the Correct Century of Turn A Gundam.

I'm actually contemplating on watching Samurai Flamenco. Is there something wrong with me?

Nah, it's pretty.

Just saw more JoJo confirmed. Yay! Now let's blow through the boring Part 3 this season so that next season we can see the glory that is JoJo Part 4!

It's not for everyone, for sure. I really am enjoying it. Need to catch the second episode now. It's just a really interesting, sweet friendship show. A far cry from the Kamen Rider action show it seemed like it might be, but still charming in its own way.

What happenned at Sunrise ? this show is so ...so .....so GOOD to watch !

Mecha battle beautifully animated ! intresting characters ..talented guy who doesn't give a f**k but isn't what you seem, standard shonen making computer energy calculations in class , best MILF , Supporting commentator coming out of nowhere ..

Gundam%20Build%20Fighters%20-%2002.jpg

This should become a running gag

DAT ANIMATION , DAT "let's change the rules of battle dynamicly" .. and the pseudo science that comes behind it ...

In short : this show is freaking FUN , it cries, it screams "buy our toys" but in a good way..
If gundam build fighters doesn't destroy the gundam sale record, something WILL BE WRONG
this episode was 5/5, 10/10, 20/20 , 41/40 , all in one.

Hahaha... Okabe you idiot.

This episode felt long, in a good way. They packed in a lot of character development with Okabe, Mayuri, Kurisu, and Suzuha. The Mayuri and Kurisu moments were both pretty sweet, and Suzuha continues to be enigmatic. Her father is Titor? But Barrel Titor, not John Titor? And she went to the time travel group? Is it... Daru? Or maybe the writer who was going to be there?

So Okabe theorizes that he got the Reading Steiner from a childhood fever... Hm. There's obviously more to it than that. Current theory is that that was the first time his timeline was altered, for... some reason. Of course that doesn't actually explain how he got the ability.

Oh, and we best not forget the creepy text Okabe got. This is the only series where a picture of jell-o is threatening.

AND THEN THE SATELLITE WAS GONE AT THE END. WHAT.

Kill la Kill 3

Is It Thursday yet??

Sadly, not for another week.

Kill la Kill 3

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA now those are what I call
transformation sequences
!

That was a pretty epic battle, and Ryuuko also seems to have unlocked her first
Giga Drill Breaker-type finisher
. Although it didn't actually
manage to finish anything, but I guess that's what happens when the first enemy you try to use your OHKO move on is the final boss. I daresay it will prove distinctly more effective against the horde of puny students who are going to start attacking her bright and early tomorrow morning.

Sogood.

Kill la Kill - 3
I think each episode continues to find its footing more and more. That battle suit justification is both ridiculous and fitting. I love little (or rather big) touches like those craters being formed into the walls and the ground during fights. The various explosions also look nice as well. It's enough to make up for that fairly brief
CG fight in the hallway
for me. Mako is the perfect embodiment of this show's energy and I love it. Satsuki is awesome too.

I'm so game for this.

Outbreak Company 1

Quite possibly one of the stupidest anime I watched this year. The idea isn't even that original and they went about it in the laziest way ever. Waste of time, I shouldn't have even bothered finishing up the episode.

Samurai Flamenco - 2

I like the direction the series is going in so far. I highly doubt it'll be like Kick-Ass for 22 episodes, but I could be wrong. At the very least, I hope he gets a uniform upgrade to the one shown in the promo stuff and OP, even if he doesn't have powers.

The formal introduction of MMM was nice, even though the main girl (Mari) annoys me somewhat. It looks like she might be pushed as a bit of a romantic interest for Masayoshi. The fact
that she appears to be a closet toku fan
is kind of interesting, though.

This episode was a lot less :DTL than last week's. I'm somewhat disappointed.

Samurai Flamenco - Episode 2

Really dug the episode. It's a little bit different from the first episode, and show's a different side of the show, but the tone remains something I find very appealing. It's a show about people from different walks of life crossing paths, with the "superhero" element being a narrative vehicle which adds flavor to what is otherwise a mundane look at society. The only disappointing part about the show is how bland it tends to look visually, but I guess not every show can be a looker. :)

I really liked two scenes in particular this week.
The scene where the singer stops him because she noticed him humming the Red Axe song, and the scene where his manager finds the toy axe at the end.
It's these little moments where one person learns something about another person accidentally, but doesn't know exactly what it means, which creates interesting connections between characters.

I'm really digging the music too. Some really nice stuff which works well with the direction and tone of the show.

Galilei Donna - Episode 2

This is a fun show on a very base level, but I really wish it had more cohesion and consistency in the narrative. It's obviously not very bothered about being a researched or smart story, and is largely more about certain themes which the creator finds cool. In that sense it reminds me a lot of OVAs in the 80s and 90s which were just made for casual fun with action and adventure, without much care towards good storytelling. The characters are all walking tropes, there's random action whenever the show seems to be slowing down, and the mysteries are turning out to be stuff right out of Da Vinci Code. Reeally silly, but fun I guess, for those into it.

If this was straight up porn, then totally AOTY material. However with its current form, it's just a terrible perverted anime, didn't even have the patience to finish the first episode.

Infinite Stratos 2

I wish I could know ahead of time if he's going to pick a girl or just run around like an idiot for the rest of this season. It'd be easier to choose if this is one of those seasons he still doesn't choose anyone.

You should not have to wonder on this one ... the odds of him picking a girl are slim at best ... IS knows what it's doing and so far , there is no chance for the number of cadidate to be reduced ( i say this but unlike many other novels i haven't read Infinite straatos much so it's not a spoiler , just my guess ) , the story will either :

- introduce a big change and force the lead to pick 1 girl (8% chance )
- Go full Harem route (41% chance )
- Stay undecided ( 51% chance )

Princess Jellyfish 01
Pretty damn good first episode.
Saw the crossdresser stuff coming from a mile away.
Pretty funny too. ED was nice.
It's a lovely and heartfelt series. It's also pretty consistent! My experience with shojo series is that they can sometimes overstay their welcome or get a bit tired in their antics, but I felt like Princess Jellyfish was just around long enough for me to want more. Still need to watch my BD of it, actually.

Samurai Flamenco - 2
With the introduction out of the way, the interactions are beginning to grow on me. I also like how Hazama's desire to be a hero while also abiding to various rules in a modern society are becoming more at odds with each other near the end. I'm sure I'll be able to tolerate the art as long as the character writing continues to improve, but I'm still having an issue with the implementation of the music in the show.

Samurai Flamenco - Episode 2

I'm really digging the music too. Some really nice stuff which works well with the direction and tone of the show.

While the content is fine, I'm frequently distracted by the mixing of the music in multiple scenes. The music is so loud that it's as if it's fighting to be heard against the dialogue. If it didn't sound like music and dialogue were at 50/50, I don't think I'd have an issue with it as I do now. Perhaps it's just me, but I find it to be very obnoxious.

THIS FUCKING SHOW

Twice as lewd, twice as action filled. I love how every episode is utter breakneck pace. I just hope they can seriously keep it up for 23 more episodes.

I'm still only on page 64 of this thread after spending about 8 hours catching up on the last few weeks of stuff but I figure this is a standalone post.

Day 1 proper of the second set of Scotland Loves Anime (the showings of Evangelion 1+2 don't count) and it was Garden of Words with a brief 5 minute short of another of his works (the name of which escapes me) and a Q+A session with Shinkai afterwards.

I've only really had experience with 5cm and Voices of a Distant Star but I've heard enough comments about Shinkai's works to know that he tends to favour the bittersweet romance rather than the solid fairy tale ending and while Garden of Words is not different I can see why people have been claiming it to be the best of the films he's done thus far. It doesn't really have that vaguely unsatisfying ending which I've come to expect. I think my only real bugbear about the story was
Takao being 15 rather than say 17. It feels a bit too young for his attitude and his character design. I guess that gap probably kept the romance as more of an adolescent thing rather than something more solid though.

As always, the film was a visual treat and while it probably lacked the crisp clarity that the Blu Ray no doubt had, there's something to be said about seeing it on the big screen with a decent sound system. Shikai mentioned that he wrote the story predominantly on the theme of 'Rain' and boy does he make that look pretty. As has been noted many times, it's also a film about feet which while I'm not normally a particular fan of, you can almost sense the way most of the shots were being done in a pretty sensual way. The other thing I noticed was that there tended to be a lot of very detailed throwaway shots linking various sequences even outside of the predominant rain theme.

My only other complaint of the film would be the soundtrack. While it has some fairly nice pieces throughout, for films like Shinkai's where a lot of introspection is involved, I can't help but feel there were a number of places where the soundtrack was intruding into the scenes rather than providing an accompaniment almost as if it was rather overtly hinting at "this is how you should feel now!".

Overall though, I really liked it and it definitely feels like his most well rounded film. Hopefully he continues this upward trend

The short at the start was a different beast altogether. A kind of futuristic style story about a father and an adult daughter who seem to have grown apart but miss each other only can;t find how to say so who are brought back together by the death of the family cat.
Similar themes once again but it was a curious mix of the ultra-detailed style and an almost washed out pastel watercolour of backgrounds. Presumably this was a cost cutting measure but it's a nice highlight of how the two characters are important but their surroundings and location aren't.

Lastly the Q&A. I can't remember much but some minor details. The move away from SF was as expected more to do with broadening the appeal of films than any conscious decision. He said that he wouldn't be averse to doing more SF. The initial idea for Garden of Words was apparently only last May. During the initial showings he was mildly upset that after the final coda after the credits, the theatres in Japan started showing previews for Miyazaki's Kaze Tachinu so that people leaving the theatre's were all talking about that instead of what they thought about the film. Err, yeah that's all I can remember.

Edit: I forgot this bit. When asked why he tends to make movies with the predominant coming of age theme he replied that the type of people who watch anime are the type of people that would appreciate such stories. It only occurred to me that this could be interpreted as a back handed comment about how people watching anime need to grow the fuck up but it probably wasn't meant like that.

Anyway, tomorrow is Fuse.

Golden Time 03

This continues to be one of the most enjoyable shows this season for me. While the characters don't have much of a personality besides nice guy, stalker, and stalker-hater, the dialogue and college setting are giving it such a nice feeling. Not to mention that these two will eventually be together, and to be honest slice of life comedies/drama where one of the people involved is in love with one person but ends up with someone else are few.. Kokoro Connect and Toradora are two from the top of my head.

Kill la Kill - 3

I guess the series really begins now. Maybe it's because I'm so stressed out right now, but I didn't really enjoy this episode quite as much as the first two. I might have to rewatch it later.

Samurai Flamenco 02

So yeah. This is animu Kick-Ass, nly with maybe a less sarcastic/satirical/shitty world and more a happy go lucky Kick-ass-senpai.

So far the characters haven't grown on me but they haven't had much development. I can't blame the show for being a somewhat slice of life and not giving me the whole backstory of each character like most other shows. This one seems to literally be dropping into the life of this guy has he goes on through his day.

Protagonist grew on me a little bit though, mainly because he didn't get his ass kicked. I recognize the glasses guy from the original posters so maybe this means he'll help SF train later? Also I appreciate that they seem to want to introduce a love interest. At least with that there's less of a chance of protagonist getting his ass kicked.

edit: I think that my main issue with the show is that the way it was advertised, both with teasers and posters, not to mention the talent such as the show lead, many thought it would be similar to Baccano or Durarara with action mixed in with a lot of characters doing their thing. Right now, at least if they're like me, we're getting over the shock of our expectations being wrong and trying to see what this show has to offer, which right now isnt much.

Valvrave the Liberator S2 - 2

The best VVV aside from Unit 1 is piloted by the absolutely worst choice for a pilot. How bad Akira is as a person makes me just fucking hurt something. So fucking dumb. Actually, everyone in this show is dumb, just some more so than others
. SOLID SNAKE IN SPACE, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN

Toriko Episode 122 Toriko's New Attack, "Nail Gun"!

Nail Gun was nice but could have been shown better, I think the actual best part was
50 fold punch, mindblown! Its moments like these where Toriko rises from just being decent to being really special. If he can use it in this upcoming arc, and maybe against StarJun (best antagonist since bogey...hype

Coppelion - 3

Has this now become "the show that isn't spoken of?"

I tried to start a dialog last week about the Fukushima vibes I was getting from it and no none seemed to bite. This week on the outburst on "science", it really is beginning to feel again like there's messages this show is trying to send.

Am not sure where its all going but its making me think nevertheless. Anyone with me? Am I just crazy and overanalyzing things
as I'm prone to do at times
?

I'll respond so it doesn't seem like everyone is ignoring you.

I think you're probably right in that you're over-analyzing though and I'm not really sure how much there is to discuss. It's possible that Coppelion could be making some reference or messaging towards Fukushima but I think any similarities are really vague generalities. I'm not sure how strictly the anime is adhering to its source material but its adapting from the Coppelion manga which started in 2008. A little over two and a half years before the Fukushima incident happened in March of 2011.

I think people are really only drawing parallels between Coppelion and Fukushima because they're both fairly recent and deal with a nuclear disaster that occurs in Japan. Even though it happened almost thirty years ago now and didn't occur in Japan, I could just as easily see people saying Coppelion makes them think of Chernobyl.

As to your first point, I believe there were still about a half dozen or so people making episodic comments about the show.

Y'know, now that this show's kind of established itself, I actually really enjoyed this episode. I think the main two characters have a really good chemistry going between them. Cop dude getting his umbrella stolen was obvious from across the world though. I gotta admire SM's conviction though, even if he looks like an idiot. But that's probably the most useful thing he's done so far. He may be moving up, though his ceiling as a superhero seems rather low.

And hey, it seems like he may have somebody to nerd out with with Mari-chan. I'm not always fans of extremely energetic grils, but I like this girl.

Oh, and the guy scrambling to hide all of his shit when his boss came totally would have been me if I had anything like that and anybody was coming over.

Golden Time 03 - another pleasant episode. Very much in line with the manga adaptation. Kind of makes me wonder how the anime will play out pace wise given what I know of the manga up to chapter 18 or so.

Nagi no Asukara 03 - Surface men! Stealing all our wimmins. Continues to be perhaps my favourite show of the season. At least so far.

Kill la Kill - 3

This show...three episodes in and I'm just about ready to declare it Anime of the Year. After a rough 2~3 weeks (personally speaking) this is exactly what I need.
