KnK dropped. Can't stand heroines who acted stupid (thats not cute KyoAni) yet some how accomplish amazing things out of nowhere, Happened in Kon too, girls do jack shit yet are somehow amazing musicians.

The thing is that I don't feel like it's trying to be writerly or heightened. Well, not anymore than any other generic slice of life show where a mythology is shoehorned in and the characters are forced to infodump anyway.
It reminds me of all the Dark Flame Master stuff, except I'm supposed to take it all seriously because it's "real" in this universe.
Well, I'm assuming that Akihito is going to be ostracized because he's half demon. If he isn't already. I also assume that's why he's attracted (not in the romantic sense) to the girl in the first place.
Well, I dunno. It looks interesting to me, but I also didn't have as much of a problem with Gargantia as anybody else. It's still the best mecha anime I saw last Spring and with the exception of Flowers of Evil it's still the best new anime I've seen this year. (MJP was okay, VVV is hilarious, AoT is SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT, and Maou was okay, but I dunno, I liked Gargantia most.) Flowers of Evil's definitely giving it a run for its money.
Oh and I want a scene like this in KnK:

Never posted here before, but I thought it'd be a good moment to start, with KnK looking at least a bit interesting and Kill la Kill starting tomorrow.
Kyoukai no Kanata 1
Meh. Visually it looks stunning, some very nice effects going on, and the animation is superb, as per usual with KyoAni. The writing is pretty bland though. It tries to be smart and witty, and it doesn't really work. At times it reminded me of ...Monogatari, but not as sharp. The banter between the protagonist and his friend is a good example. The premise is fine, if a tad unoriginal. The fact that the supernatural stuff seem to be out in the open kills the balance in this episode, though. Because the action could (and does) take place everywhere, even at school, the school parts, which are usually the lighter parts of an episode, feel out of place. They're almost pointless. The exposition also is too explicit for my tastes, for this kind of anime, that is. Everything is just literally told to the viewer, which can work sometimes, but the pacing here doesn't really accomodate that. Rather, between the pacing and the rate of the information transmitted doesn't really line up. The protagonist seems cool, I guess, but the female lead is a problem. The angle they're going for here isn't really working. It seems like they're going for the typical ditzy clumsy clingy annoying but endearing moe type, but there's nothing to make her endearing yet, so she's just annoying and clumsy so far.
Dat opening though.

That article by the translator defending his use of "eoten" is straight bullshit. I wouldn't suggest reading it unless you want pure intellectual masturbation that makes you want to bash your head against a wall. He just goes through every excuse he could possibly use to defend his usage of it, including that whole "Anglo-Saxon words are more emotional and/or more everyday" argument that I personally think is absolutely ridiculous, and I won't get into why I think it is because I know I'll end up with a gigantic, rambling post.
I don't think it's on their site anymore, but someone has it on Pastebin as "The 'Eoten' Manifesto." Good read if you want to get your blood boiling.
What bothers me more than anything, I think, is that he doesn't settle for using the word's surviving equivalent (although it's barely surviving, unless you're like a fantasy writer, maybe), "ettin," opting instead to use the now long-dead Old English version, "eoten," complete with proper declension, despite the fact that we no longer decline nouns in English (with the sole exception of singular and plural), and haven't for a very, very long time. Did they ever actually use anything other than the nominative/accusative "eoten" and its plural, "eotenas," or did they settle for just that instead of inflecting for case in every single line? I never actually bothered to watch it because I figured it would just piss me off. I guess they are using the genitive plural (eotena) right there in their title, so I guess that probably answers my question.

Hell yeah, the duo Kircheis & Reinhard are back. I've said this countless of times during the run of the main series, but you really don't know how great their interactions are until they're gone. And by then it's too late.
But not here, as they are just embarking on their first military adventures! I'm pretty excited to follow along.
