Oh god, I forgot that post. lolmust be the new smell-o-vision version.
In seriousness, I hope the release includes the specials since those have never been translated.
Yeah, even though the BDs aren't apparently the greatest, I'm hoping they do it. I wonder if there's some magic number of DVD sales that they're looking for in order to go back and pick up the BD rights. With any luck they'll keep going back and applying the BD rerelease rule for more of their older titles. Cross your fingers for Hidamari.

Speaking of Urobuchi, let's not forget that what is sure to be his magnum opus starts airing in less than a week:

The Mystical Laws is a mixed bag in that it's one part semi-legitimate story, and one part unfiltered Happy Science craziness. There's a certain progression in the recommended order for Happy Science films. First you'd start with The Laws of Eternity, which is basically a tour through the afterlife outlining the basic theology of the group while also trying to be inclusive of other belief systems to the point it becomes comedic. After all, any story that has Thomas Edison as an angel is clearly operating under broken criteria. Then you'd watch The Rebirth of Buddha, a movie which is more ordinary and mundane on its face as it stays in contemporary Japan, but quickly breaks any suspension of disbelief in how the conflict between the good religious group and the evil religious group plays out. Then there's The Golden Laws, which is more in the style of an educational family film as two kids time travel to various points in history considered important to Happy Science. After this there's The Laws of the Sun, which goes over the creation of the universe and human pre-history before touching on aspects left out in the first three films. Why the presentation is more dry than the other films, it also goes into some of the more stranger beliefs of the group without holding anything back. Last is Hermes: Winds of Love, which was placed last to be a cooldown movie as it would be a fairly standard if not well produced greek mythology story if it didn't remember that it had to throw in a little bit of craziness.
Considering all this, I'd probably put The Mystical Laws at the back end in this order. It's a lot like Hermes in that it's fairly subdued for the first half in a setting more akin to The Rebirth of Buddha, but much of the weirdness directly builds on what was introduced in The Laws of the Sun. I don't think watching this film first really spoils the overall experience, as it is important to remember that there are many things that The Mystical Laws doesn't touch upon and that all of the movies are fairly different outside sharing the same underlying beliefs. In fact, the movie never actually mentions the overarching father-god in the Happy Science pantheon by name! That said, the whole business aboutdoes steal one of the big laughs in The Laws of the Sun.space lizardmen waiting for a legal exception to intergalactic anti-invasion treaties
I have yet to go back and listen to the original Japanese voice acting, but so many characters in the dub cast were perfect. The stereotypically old Buddhist monk, the AI from that old PC game Outpost posing as the spirit of Japan, and all the various stooges in the Godom empire and Japanese government. It's not enough that the film scripts in blatant strawmen in the support of militarization, but it has to oversell it by making them sound as silly as they do. On multiple occasions it tries to emphasize certain lines through repetition, but quickcuts to a flashback quote making the whole exercise a comedy routine. That's not even going into all the silliness in the rest of the film itself, which clearly follows well established anime ideas and tropes when not doing something that's actually Happy Science.
What Hyouka does really well is to bring out the magic in the "mundane". That's one of my favorite kinds of fiction, when it uses a fresh lens to look at ordinary life and helps you rediscover the wonder in it.

Excuse me, this isn't the incest yuri show I ordered! It started off like thatbut after that occurred(plus some sort of but not really NTR)Also there's that witch with the sexy thighs and the big hat.this magic ray of light took Noto Mamiko's sister away and this poor man's Kero-chan ruined the shit out of this overbearing atmosphere. AND THEN we either went back in time or to some magic alternate world because magic for some nonsense terrorist plot from people we don't know about.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
So between Kyoukai no Kanata and Coppelion is this going to be the season of eye searing filters?
Also, taking a look at the Toku thread I found out that apparently this is a thing...
I'm stubbornly holding out so they make an anime. >.<
Coppelion Ep 1
I missed it! Can someone recap why the show has the girls in short skirt school uniforms again?

I see Gaist Crusher nowhere in the OP or did I miss it?
Oh god, I forgot that post. lol
And I doubt it... surprisingly, they're choosing to dub it this time around. Same with Maria Holic, of all things. I don't even want to imagine what Maria Holic would sound like in English.

Coppelion's almost/slight butt shots aren't cutting it for me after I just got done with Highschool of the Dead. First you blind me and then you tease me, GoHands please!
Though in all honesty, the filter in this actually isn't bothering me as much as I expected. It's certainly not K levels of concentrated eye torture, though nothing but some tumblr gifs are.
Thus, duckroll's OP is now incomplete, and his fame was stained at this very moment.I figured no one would miss it. Guess I was wrong!
Taisho Baseball Girls is not getting an English dub, only a BD release. If it was getting that treatment, there would also be a DVD version being rereleased.
Take a look at the Blu-ray and new DVD of Maria Holic. "New English Dub" is at the top of the box, while there is no such text on TBG.
Also, taking a look at the Toku thread I found out that apparently this is a thing...
Ah, I just assumed. lol
But Maria Holic getting a dub is still weird. I wonder how many copies SDBurton bought.

Rin is adorable with jaken and sesshomaru. Other then that this episode was pretty boring. I could follow an entire series of sesshomaru and company

I wonder if they'll keep the commentaries. I believe they were removed from this new release, unless I misread the features.Well since there is another season of Maria Holic, one has to assume that will also receive the BD-upgrade and English dub treatment. Wonder when that will happen?

Oh, it looks like there was a poem of some sort on the Kill la Kill Satsuki newspaper ad, written by Kazuki Nakashima. Here's a transcription of it; if anyone can provide a fluent translation, I'd be quite grateful. Best I can tell from machine translation, it seems to be some sort of narration by Satsuki.
I wonder if they'll keep the commentaries. I believe they were removed from this new release, unless I misread the features.
