Arpeggio of Blue Steel - END

My series of the season. No contest. It has naval warfare, fun, cute and a serious side as well. Some light fanservice (the best kind imo) and did I mention NAVAL WARFARE?

Out of all the stuff I watched this season it is the one series I hope to see continued.

I'll also have to get my hands on the OST of this, including the girls' songs.

12/10, will watch again.

Wait, this was good? I could've sworn everyone was lukewarm about it at the beginning of the season, and then it fell off my radar.

This is my other top series of the season. I tied it with Outbreak Company because I like the two of them for rather different reasons, so it doesn't seem fair to give one the boot for the other. But this is the kind of material I love in my anime. It was the only representative I had of its quasi-genre this time, so there was a lot resting on it. It delivered, and then some.

Setting it in the boonies was enough of a changeup that things felt fresh. It also created so many beautiful scenery shots, which the camera lingered on for long enough that the majesty of the thing really sunk in.

I also loved the characters. Ren-chon was precocious without being cloying, Hotaru was yuri to a level that I don't even need goggles, and the sisters are perfect distillations of the kind of characters I've come to expect Ayaneru and Asumisu to play. Komari has so much of Asumi's other roles - Popura, Kaoru, Yuno - in her that it's the kind of role she was born to play. Though Renge stole the show. From the moment she Nyanpasu'd into all of our lives.

The supporting cast was also great. Suguru said a lot without speaking a single word, Konomi provided a great foil, Kazuho was fun, and Candy Store's sarcastic, yet soft demeanor... really, every character was on the top of their game. I also liked that, like Love Lab, Hikage came from Koakuma Meringue, another manga by the author, effectively showing a larger universe being created in the background of a charming little show.

The comedic timing was spot on, knowing just when to end a joke and let a beat come in. The interplay between the cast was great, and you could find potential humor to be mined between just about any combination of characters. Even the dramatic moments were still heartwarming - the sisters' runaway and the flashback with Baby Renge come to mind. Every episode struck a perfect balance between cute, quirky and just overall well rounded.

The opening was one of nano.RIPE's best songs. Something about their style just fits country settings. Consider all the shows they've been associated with - Jinrui, HanaIro, this one. I associate their guitar-heavy style with open fields and people contemplating themselves into the wind. The ED by the voice actresses was also nice and cute.

And if anybody ever decides to draw Natsumi and Hotaru in Palette Suits, I'm listening.

Final Thoughts: A fantastic series, one of the greatest shows of this season. Lovable characters, expertly timed jokes, a realized setting, and plenty of heartwarming moments. Nyanpasu to everybody. That OVA can't get here quick enough, and I would watch the hell out of a second season. Ren-chon the Funky Fairy can't be wrong.

Same. It was a surprise for me, as I wasn't expecting that much out of it, but it turned out to be my favorite series this season, and it had stiff competition from things like Gingitsune and Kill La Kill. But as much as I do like KLK, I think Arpeggio has known what it was doing from the beginning instead of being all over the place like KLK. This was only 12 eps, but I loved it. I loved how
Takao pounced on Gunzou when she woke up. XD
Also a bit surprised/relieved that they
gave us a happy ending
. I wasn't sure they would going into the final episode.

Definitely hoping for a second season, this one deserves it.

It's decent enough. If you liked Toradora humor and could handle its melodrama, it's some of the same combination. The drama seems to have gone up a bit recently, but Koko and 2D-Kun make the show worth it imho. Plus it's a show worth watching as it isn't terrible, an ok amount of people discuss in here, and it'll be running for the next season as well.
.

ah ok. kinda lost interested after he got the girl and she was like 'i wanna lose my virginity in france!'

Yusibu 12

Probably the first final episode I've liked so far this season.

Fino's rocker hair was cool and it was sweet to see her smile again. Had a good laugh when manager sent the bill to the demon guy and Airi seems a bit happier now that's she working for Leon.

I made a joke in the first episode by calling this Not Maou-sama, and while its unfair to label it that, the premise is just similar enough for many (like me) to compare the two shows. At the end of the day, I don't think its as good as Maou-sama, but its a fine alternative if someone is looking for something similar.

There were a few instances when the animation were poor, but when the animation did standout it really pulled through. Action scenes were alright, honestly didn't expect to see this show having better scenes than Machine-Doll or Tokyo Raven's, but that's what happens when a show isn't hampered down by CG. Fanservice was quite adequate, tits did a lot of gainaxing whenever they bounced and I enjoyed every second of it.

I do think the show shines when it involves the characters. Fino is adorable and her laugh is soothing to the soul. Clearly she is best girl, and anyone who tries to disagree needs to accept that they have a horrible opinion. Raul is nothing special as far as male leads go, but he wasn't annoying or screwed up badly, so I appreciate that. Manager was a cheerful tease and her witches outfit/powers were quite cool. Lore and Nova didn't appear that much, but I can't say I disliked them. Old man was perfect and I will miss his antics. Airi is your standard tsundere with an amazing battle costume. Really liked Elza myself, not for only her teasing and being a product maniac, but since she and Lam were really good friends/mentors towards Fino. Lam though, has got to be the most shocking character (for me anyway) in this show. I have never been big on loli characters and whenever I see one, they almost always ruin the show for me. Lam, I'm perfectly willing to admit, is one of the few I've actually liked and enjoyed every appearance she made on screen.

Final Girl Ranking

Fino > Elza = Lam > Manager > Airi > Lore > Nova

7/10 Decent or 7 Dirty Old Mans

Not if you are Tada Banri. Tada Banri can take Kouko's slightly overbearing personality in his stride because Tada Banri is a bro who knows the true meaning of best girl.

Except when he's a ghost, then he's a bit shit.

Also, Kouko
seems to have given up on the France thing without even being prompted
, so she's getting better! =p

20/10. Absolutely amazing. Will watch again. Out of all the shows I have watched, I want this show to continue on the most.

hows golden shower/time or w/e its called been recently? Kinda forgot about it lol.

lol. Golden Time. yeah its good.
Still so much of it left too!

On that note, I've been wondering something about persona here on AniGAF. I know the following:

Theonik: Ass man

Chet Rippo: Boobs man

Duckroll: Some weird food fetish

DTL: We all know what DTL likes (to the point it's become a category referenced by his name) :|

Are there any other
notable labels I can place on
posters who have a specific interest?

me - cute things are cute

firehawk - mono no aware

theonik - dat ass

zach - TOUCH FLUFFY TAIL

Kurita - 3dpd

Corvy - AHHHHHHH TOMATOES ARE ORANGES

Everything (I mean EVERYTHING) about this series is criminally underrated. I totally forgot how it switched up endings every episode and each one was damned good. DAMN GOOD!

Yeah it was super cute and unfortunately very much ignored by most people

Having finished episode 12, which had some art porn thrown at me, it was a reminder that this whole show is pretty pornographic when it comes to scenary, which I enjoyed considering how much of a mix up it was for me. The soundtrack also greatly benefits the scenary as well to give the feeling of a country that isn't completely disturbed by cities.

Renge was a rather interesting character given how she acts, and I do find it great that she wasn't always the main focus. This show basically took its time to flesh out several characters, even beyond our main cast, which makes me feel that this is really a small community made up of few people. I don't believe Hotaru is a 5th grader though. Fuck that noise. I also didn't need goggles to see the Yuri, in fact, I was giving her the benefit of the doubt.

The first four episodes definitely gives me a bit of a different feel to them... well maybe 2-4 (or was the three), in that while there was some humor, it took the time to break up the group into pairings to implant relations/flesh out already existing relationships (based on status), and felt like it was a drive to be very heartwarming. Strangely, episode 4 was like a "Renge can cry!?" in where it felt like the most heartbreaking thing ever. (there were comedy bits too)

The rest of the show felt more comedic, although rather relaxing, and gave us a "moment" later on (Candy Store/Renge for New Years). I enjoyed it, since it was a return to having more group activities, although it felt more like enjoying the ride instead of taking in the music, scenary, and how it applies to that scene.

For the most part, I enjoyed the time I spent on this show. I do like a lot of aspects in the show, although... for the main four girls, I think I enjoyed Komari the least, with Hotaru being in second least favorite main. I don't hate them, but their dynamic feels like a reminder that "this is anime". I would however, say that they're lucky, because despite that, it doesn't really detract much from the experience for me.

I think I'll keep this in mind for relaxing animes when I need it.

Nisekoi manga

I've been reading this. It's pretty enjoyable, but I'm getting a strong Love Hina vibe to it. I hope it gets 2 cours since the manga is 10+ volumes long.

I'd wait on Mazinger myself and watch some other stuff seeing as discotek will have it out sometime this year (I hope)

If you must though,, make sure to check out the Mazinger z movie vs the general of darkness or whatever. Shit is brutal and its good watching before you get to the mazinkaiser remake of it.

So Mazinger, Great, UFO, and then Vs. the General of Darkness is the right viewing order? Then I'll hit up Mazinkaiser series and then SKL after that.

Takao's ending was great. Hyuuga
taking advantage of the situation
was hilarious as well. So many gif moments in that episode, but I'd rather wait a day or two before posting them.

Season 2 pls!

I keep wondering what mine could be, so maybe :nintendo could be used on anime studios that aren't exactly doing very well right now.

Would make sense, given the state Nintendo is with the Wii U.

Gundam Build Fighters Episode 12:

The excitement continues in the battle royale
as the PPSE Chairman hatches an elaborate hitjob on our hero Reiji, believing him to maybe possibly be the prince of the alien world from which he is also from. Willing to bet diamonds to donuts that the Plasky Particle subplot it tied into this as well. Indeed, we get this in the form now in the Mega Sized Zaku II boss battle and the fights in this series are such a treat to watch. The megalith is downed thanks to a combined effort of Mao, Fellini, and our heroes, at the cost of a disclosing some of their major weaponry, which is already costing them in the metagame. Anyway, outside shenanigans see Ral unable to set an alarm clock, Meijin gets cross with The Chairman over the stunt and Alia and Renji continue thier meat bun dance until a run-in with local hooligans results in a broken wrist. I am beginning to think that the Chairman's name might just be McMahon.

Corvy - AHHHHHHH TOMATOES ARE ORANGES

LOL. Some days I worry that people will have no idea what "Tomatoes are Oranges" means.
If I had to put it into words it would be "This shit is so stupid and crazy that I have lost my grip on reality." although I suppose others would think it meant "this shit is so stupid he's freaking out in a way that is proportionately stupid." In reality though it just means good dental hygiene.

Mazinger Z 92/ "Shin Mazinger Z 27"

Assume with me for just a moment that Shin Mazinger Z wrapped up a bit more coherently. This is how I would say it worked. Gorgon escapes his imprisonment again, and while seeking Hades, Emperor of Darkness, bumps into the Great General of Darkness and informs him that Asura is breaking the seal. The seal breaks and all that crazy shit happens. The remained of this episode shows what's left of the Mazinger Army getting beaten down by some Mycenaen Mechanical Beasts and Kouji is putting up a heroic beat-down while the Kurogane crew fade into the background to never ever be seen again in this continuity. Mazinger is beaten to a pulp and then along comes Tetsuya, piloting his Great Mazinger, and the revived Kenzo Kabuto. This Tetsuya is not the same as the one haunting Nishkiori, but was raised by Kenzo after his "death" in honor of the former Tetsuya. Kenzo is a cyborg and not some creepy Kedora jelly fish. Kouji and Sayaka are put on an air bus to America while Tetstwoya sticks around in Japan to fight the Mycenaen Empire.

There, now I can make this continuity transition work and only occasionally feel hiccups afterward.

I ordered a copy of the Madoka Rebellion program guide, and it just showed up. Not only is the cover super intricate, the inside, with all these interviews and concept art, is wonderful. Totally worth the $12. Right up there with the Vividred Operation key.
