Public Health Threat
The characters don't do anything clever with their shticks.
Sister is OK but the rest of them just feel like caricatures being thrown at me.
Pretty much. The rest of the harem characters add very little value to the show. Minorin channeling that Yuki persona for Anastasia is amusing though.

┐(´ー`)┌ shows are K / Ro;No
The story doesn't really start until after the Robo-One!

I played Genesis and SNES.
I guesS I didnt see a reason to pick one over the other. I ended up owning neither and stuck with an NES until N64 came out.

Sword Art Online is that really shitty show that everybody is making fun of, right?
It's pretty polarizing. There are some people who are rather vocally opposed to the show, but there's also a bunch of us who enjoy it. The writing is inconsistent, but the overall package is put together really well and makes it into something that's highly entertaining.

edit: Despite only having a Genesis, even I acknowledge the SNES' superiority. It's not even a contest.

Okay, this post is entirely for the benefit of DiGiKerot and anyone else who happened to be at the Nerawareta Gakuen screening, just confirming some details from the original novel that will probably clarify the plot a little. I hope the novel really is as well known as I think it is in Japan, because unlike TokiKake I really think it helps to have some familiarity with the original to make sense of what happens in this film.

I promise I have non-spoiler thoughts coming which will talk about the many, many positive things in the film - I just wanted to get these down having read through some proper plot synopses.

Warning: long post is long.
STUFF

There's so many black bars I can't tell what's even going on with this movie. Has Nakamura and his team failed me?

Is there actual precedent for middle-schoolers to live alone in Japan? Or is it just a roundabout way to keep the parents out of the picture?

Seein this wall of shame, the first two aren't really that surprising, considering they reply to even when people post only a dot.

The best part of the Madoka movies was in the new OP when Madoka and Homura blushed and rubbed their heads together playfully. The audience all cheered for that. Plus there was an unprecedented amount of hand holding between the two. That shipping was borderline fan fiction.

Bueno. Now they just need to feature Homu wearing Madoka's panties on her head.

Since when was Natsume not shoujo?
True, but of the men fucking men variety. lol
I guess I didn't think of it as a romance anyway.

Madoka Magica the Movie: Beginnings + Eternal
As for the movie itself it pretty much delivered exactly what it promised. It was Madoka on a big screen.
I just wonder if these things work for people who have never watched the show or don't give a shit about anime.

Clearly you haven't seen Sakura's mum from Code:Breaker -

What the fuck.

The second season title is "Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS," and they had the VAs guess at what "SS" stood for, coming up with things like "Suppai Subaru" (sour Subaru), "Shoppai Subaru" (salty Subaru) [both references to Subaru's life going sour/being full of tears, i.e. once he gets arrested], "Shinda Sekaisensen" [This is some kind of Angel Beats reference], "Sake da, Sake wo mottekoi" ("Sake! bring me Sake!")

And the correct answer is SS stands for "Second Season" or "Shougakusei was Saikou da ze!" ("Elementary-schoolers are great!")
Only in Japan would someone use SS unironically. Maybe I really should forgive Girls and Panzer for being German WW2 fetish porn (no gas chamber references, please). :p

Also, I like that they realize their fans are creepy as shit but they're still pandering to them anyway. If only some of these guys were science fiction nerds instead of pedos. :(

Suki tte ii na yo / Say "I Love you" 2

This was more enjoyable than the first episode.
The ridiculous dramatic piano music is still bugging me though.
I would say give it to the completion of the next arc before deciding it completely drop it or not.

Sukitte Ii na yo #3

This is getting interesting now. Unlike that other shoujo, this is actually, well, shoujo. The characters are believable, there's drama (or soon to be drama) and, most importantly, the main character's thoughts and monologues actually develop the character. Instead of blabbering about trivial stuff, you get to hear her thought process. That is what makes characters interesting.

It has a decent supporting cast as well. They're not all friendly towards each other, or are being friendly for superficial reasons. They have their ulterior motives for their actions, which reflects actual human behaviour. You can't judge a book by its cover as they say. The main love interest is a bit of an enigma, still, but that just pulls me in. Colour me impressed.

Looking forward to the next episode.
Ah, you're watching it too. Yay. lol

The shade of green is wrong; at first I thought he was the dude from Nazo no Murasamejou.

This isn't a licensed product after all. Link already was drawn in an anime style, so they had to make his design here clearly different from Link's in some ways, otherwise they'd have legal problems (no parody fair use in Japan, after all).

I'd assume impressions will be coming later - that information will make absolutely no sense if you've not seen the movie before hand.

Blood-C : The Last Dark

The Blood-C film contains virtually everything you might expect from a script written by Nanase Ohgawa. Let me run down the basic checklist:

i) Wacky supporting cast you don't really care about!
ii) Glorious CLAMP continuity porn!
that serves almost no purpose and contradicts CLAMP universe rules!
iii) Gratuitous femmeslash! (no brolust in this one, but then you weren't expecting any)
iv) (general spoiler but it's CLAMP so...)
eyeball destruction!
v) Gruesome violence!

There are more, but I don't want to mention them for fear of overall spoilers.

So the film is... really, it's Blood-C in miniature. With the way that the TV series ended, the film has to "start from scratch" in a way; it has to re-establish a premise and a cast, then do stuff with them over the course of the film. The structure is more like a 3 ep OVA anyway, as it's very clearly split into three sections, each ending with a battle sequence - I know three act structure is traditional screenwriting and all, but here it feels super-obvious.

Unfortunately the new characters are pretty dull, and the story isn't really much of anything (a series of contrivances that serve only to deliver the traditional CLAMP plot shocks). With that said, though, you get all the CLAMP boxes ticked above wrapped up in a very shiny Production IG package. MOST of the action sequences in the film are fantastic - really exciting and nicely shot (there's a bit of a problem with CG overuse, particularly for crowd scenes and for crane shots) - and even though the new characters are boring it's not for want of talent from Production IG.

So for most of the film I got pretty much what I wanted - an enjoyably blockbuster style follow-up to Blood-C. It's just a shame that the ending is frankly terrible, then.

Perhaps I need to swot up more on the technical details of certain elements of the TV show. However, (ENDING SPOILERS)
Fumito turning his cousin into what I thought was an abstract verbal contract, here represented by a giant floating vagina eye with petals, then Fumito himself turning into a hideous CG gorgon that dies in about 1 minute flat, all so Fumito can turn himself into a creature like Saya - which doesn't work because reasons
was an enormous anticlimax, particularly followed by a nonsense "18 months later" ending talking about boring characters that no-one likes.

The music was pretty great, though!

Basically, it's a dumb blockbuster by way of CLAMP, which is exactly what I expected it to be, and despite several flaws it's only the weird-ass ending that's a real downer on the film.

y'know

i have to give the girl credit, for being so young she does a really good job with her role. i should not have laughed so much at that last scene.

otherwise this was kinda boring.

Maturity, bitches.
Now that's I've caught up with the old and new threads.

Congratulations to Syrinx for finishing School Days.

Continues to be manly. It's Jojo nuff said. Who cares how it looks? Once you're in the zone you forget all that.

Sword Art Online 16 - The Lost Levels
This show clearly hasn't got the balls to troll with its OP so we already can tell the death penalty this time round will most likely not be severe. Showing someone "die" in game after showing them in the OP really does remove the suspense. Of course it would be beyond the power of man to explain why people would willingly play a game that can kill you.

And I'm glad that despite being in a new game our favourite hero is basically identical to his old self. Even a random character generator can't prevent this plainness.

Space Brothers 29
OH NO!

Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de 1
So lets go over this shall we.
Sonic - Well he goes fast, but he doesn't ask for chillidogs when Fantasy Zone's offer for anything comes up.
Phantasy Star - Might as well replace with a broom.
Tails - Clearly never played Sonic 2 because Tails doesn't die no matter what happens to him.
Fantasy Zone - Oh dear God. One of the worst cases of Tsundere in a long time.
Columns - When I think leader of Sega I most certainly think Columns.
Tetris - First I thought his lateness was a joke about the long piece never appearing when you want them to, but apparently he's an L piece so I guess that theory went to pot. What is up with the monkey? Also he doesn't eveb sound Russian.
Link - Talks too much and his bombs are not blue.
Mario - Wouldn't it be easier to set a ship on fire by throwing a fireball? And he has a sword rather than a hammer.

Terrible. See me after class.

Posting my Darker Than Black Vol. 1 Ep. 1 impressions from the other thread because nobody answered my plot questions. :(
Darker Than Black: Vol. 1 Ep. 1

Ended up settling on this. Before I go on, can I ask how the progression structure for this show works? What with the volumes and everything.

Anyway, I'm interested.
I really enjoy the dark tone of the show. I'm not too experienced with anime like this (or any anime, really), but the dark, bizarre, mysterious nature of this one seems to fit it well and I like it lots.

About the basic plot: so this wall, hell's gate, or whatever, has popped up and has given some people powers. Some of these guys are contractors, like the guy at the beginning and Jean. The police (and that Reaper dude) are hunting these guys. So...what does that make that other guy? The guy that moved in next to that doctor and helped get her out of trouble? He seems to have electrical powers, but doesn't seem to be a contractor. And I forget, why are they after that doctor again? I know that she did research on hell's gate, but I forget the reason she got chased by the police and the contractors. Yes, I'm a dumbass.
