Fallout 3 and New Vegas mod discussion

Are there any mods for Fallout 3 that let me add my own music to the radio, or create a custom radio station. The in-game songs have long overstayed their welcome and I got a lot of theme-appropriate music to put into the game.

Also, any top recommendations for Fallout 3 mods, aside from those listed in the OP?

edit: Also, are there any alternates for Darnified UI for Fallout 3? That mod makes Fallout crash on startup. I still want a mod that resized the UI because the one that does so for NV works really well.
GNR is the best custom station you can get if you're looking for music that fits in with the game, just be ready for a long download. Adding your own tracks can be a little tricky as the game is picky about the format of the sound files, you can try renaming your sound file the same as one of the GNR tracks and overwriting it to see if it works.

MTUI is a good alternative to Darn but Darn is imo the best out there and shouldn't be causing start up crashes. It might be installed wrong.

Been a long time since I last played - any blatant mod incompatibilities that stand out to anyone? The load order's pretty much straight from BOSS - the few unrecognized ones were mostly recent GRA/LR additions to existing mods. I'm just asking because I already had a CTD when stepping out of Doc Mitchell's, but when I used 'coc Goodsprings', everything works just fine. Go figure.

Only thing that stands out is merged.esp. If that's a FNVEdit Merged Patch you might want to delete and remake it (unless you already did after installing all those mods) and put it at the bottom of the load order.

Going to make an educated guess and say your crashes are being caused by WorldofPain and MoMod. Those mods together usually make exterior cells way unstable though the game will still be playable.

Made it myself of course, and it being before the Nevada Skies, Interior Lighting Overhaul and those graphics mods shouldn't make any difference either way. They're meant to be loaded the very last and the merged file doesn't touch any of them anyway.

You could be right about AWOP & MM - guess I'll still need to look into it and maybe ditch one of them, stability is a pretty steep price to pay for any one mod.

If anyone cares (chances are likely not!) I took over the Strip Open mod, and have just released a new version here.

New version fixes all the problems with scripted scenes and unique NPCs.

I'm currently using Project Nevada, Monster Mod, and the 4Gb starting mod, no crashes at all compared to using other mods. But I have a question for those of you running PN, where can I find Outcast armor at? I've googled and only found the version in Fallout 3, but the mod description clearly says there is outcast armor added, and I've found almost all the other armor the mod added.

I'm sure no one knows off hand, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I get a loud clicking sound in some areas that won't stop no matter what. Are any mods known to do this?

I'm sorry that I never saw this and I'm probably horribly late, but its
across the river from the floating homes that are south of cottonwood cove.

Anyone have any success with using Project Nevada with Lonesome Road... been waiting forever to play this game but I'm reading the overlays and grenade hotkeys aren't working with it yet. :(

Having some issues when booting the game. Sometimes I'll get a FalloutNV.exe has stopped working CTD and other times the game will hang at the initial load (the roulette wheel will keep spinning and I have to ctrl-alt-delete). This is my load order:

If I had to guess, I would probably say the problem has something to do with the New Vegas Redesign which was set to hidden a few weeks ago. Try unticking that and see if it still works.

Just bought FO:NV with all DLC. Should I just start modding right from the get go? All the mods from the OP? Anything new I should consider? Thanks

Thanks a lot for directing me to the GNR mod. Easily the best mod I've installed as the vanilla song selection was driving me mad.

Is there an equivalent for New Vegas?

Radio New Vegas - The Secret Stash

But apparently it's under moderation on Nexus

Thanks for the secret stash.

This may be a bit of a tangent, but I'm having some sort crazy faction issue (?) that's causing Rex to be hostile to the companions not currently in my party whenever I go back to the Lucky 38. He starts growling, I can't interact with him and eventually Veronica punches him to death. Anyone come across an issue like that before? Are there any mods that can debug or clean up any sort of faction issue which might fix this?

Hey all, can anyone check if my load order is screwed up? It's been crashing on me during fast travels.

I started having that issue too after installing mods. I couldn't really narrow it down, although I do notice we both use EVE - maybe that by itself is fine, but it doesn't really play well with others?

Anyway, I turned 'save on travel' off and that mostly fixed it. I'll still crash after traveling from time to time, but if I get myself killed, load back in, quick save, then quick reload things will go back to normal. I'm not really sure why, but dying tends to fix a lot of odd crashes that occur on load. Worth a try, at least.

So I've installed a lot of the major mods...does anyone know how they impact all the stats and perks? Are they explained in-game?

Ah, I don't have New Vegas. Just FO3 for the moment.

It seems I screwed up my installation of FO3. I don't want to redownload the entire fucking game from steam again, but I can't figure out how to reinstall without redownloading. Is it possible?

I wanted to repost this from OT, courtesy of Radogol.

J.E. Sawyer, the project director has released his own rebalance mod. I guess this is his "vision" of the game without pandering to an average player:

* Max level with all DLCs installed is 35.
* XP rate is halved.
* Base player health is quartered and level-gained health is reduced by 25%.
* Base Carry Weight from 150 to 50 (related perks/things have also been adjusted).
* Energy Weapon ammo weighs less than its nearest equivalent Guns ammo.
* Energy Weapon durability is in the same ballpark as Guns durability.
* Medium Armor has a small amount of DR proportional to its DT.
* Heavy Armor has even more DR proportional to its DT.
* Power Armor does not require a perk, but if you have the perk, the weight of the armor is essentially negated.
* Karma/Alignment values adjusted all over.
* H2O/FOD/SLP rates doubled, but the first threshold is moved from 200 to 400 (statuses roll over ever 150 after).
* Water and Food drop rates on NPCs is dramatically lower. It is difficult to stay out of Dehydration/Starvation by looting enemies.
* Water/Nuka-Cola/Sunset Sarsaparilla heal much less, but now all restore H2O (alcohols will as well, but at lowered values).
* Default Stimpaks are uncommon. A new variant, Stimpak, Expired is the default. It is not that great.
* The player's Workbench recipe now makes Stimpak, Homemade. It is better than Expired, worse than default Stimpaks, and has the PE penalty from Healing Powder.
* All Stimpaks have weight.
* Pre-Order items have been adjusted to be more well-balanced and not worth that much if you rush to Chet's to trade them in.
* A bunch of fixes I couldn't make during development because of load order conflicts, time, etc. E.g.: Automatic Rifle spread re-adjustment, putting the Police Pistol on the Cowboy List, Bozar on Grunt, Junk Rounds are now actual ammo variants you can make, etc.
* Some other stuff.

these are not all changes.

I believe like move your data folder (or w/e folder is messed up) out and go to steam and verify cache - going on a hunch here.

That sounds pretty hardcore.

Carry limit alone would drive me crazy.

That seems Stalker level difficult now. Fitting considering the setting, I mean it is an environment where basic survival is tough when not around a town.

Thanks to the JE Sawyer mod (l'chaim!) I've been exploring where we're at with mods again finally. There is some extremely awesome stuff now, so the long-promised update is being put together at last. Watch this space.

Update done, PM me if you have any feedback. As you can see I'm trying to move away from How-To style stuff in the OP so there's more room for mods, so by all means suggest mods you think belong there and I'll chuck them in.

Regarding Nevada Skies, I don't want any gameplay additions, just the visuals.. is it easy to modify it? (not at home right now so I can't mess around with it myself)

I want it so that if I remove the mod some time in to my playthrough it won't break the game.

I thought that would be a problem, I used to carry around a bunch of stuff just to be able to sell it off later.. but when you look at most of it, it's not worth anything. And if I really need to pack a lot of stuff I just end up giving it to my companions.

That said, I don't play Hardcore mode.

I missed this. It should be fine, if you follow the tutorial about rolling your own FOMOD it's especially easy because you can uninstall the package and it removes everything for you automagically, otherwise you can just toggle it off in FOMM before you launch the game.

For Fallout NV do i need Fallout Mod Manager or can i stick with Nexus Mod Manager? It just seems to work so good on Skyrim at the moment.

Well I think it would work since the folder structure is the same between the two games.

The Nexus Mod Manager supports FO:NV but I found the interface in FOMM to be a lot more intuitive and easy so you might want to try it and choose for yourself.

Anyone here ever make a mod? How hard would it be to make a dungeon with placed enemies? for someone with no experience whatsoever?

Whats a good non-Nude New Vegas mod for faces and bodies? I don't mind a Nude mod, as long as gives an option for underwear.
