Fallout 4 Important Release Info ( PC Sys Requirements and more)

Was expecting 660 or something there about to be minimum.

Either way, I'm more than prepared. Bring it

Question, I wanted the Pip Boy edition and the nice 20% Best Buy discount so I pre-ordered the PC version there. Do I just get the whole Pip Boy edition then a box with a Steam code in it?

Anyone pre-ordered PC games there before?

I really hope the game doesn't gobble up VRAM like some titles. No problem in turning down shadows etc. with my GTX770. But 2GB VRAM is all I have^^ Has to be enough until Pascal. If not I'll have to wait :(

It did with Skyrim. There were very, very few mods for Skyrim for months. Those that did exist did little.

BS.

There were 'mods' to increase the amount of memory the game could use, how much of the world got loaded, and a bunch of other core stuff within the first week.

It's these back-end mods that make PC the best platform for Bethesda games, and also exactly the type of thing that will never make it to the console's walled gardens, the more grandiose and polished stuff is just the icing on the cake

Other than my 4770K I pass everything else for the recommended settings.

Hope my 4770K doesn't hold me back to much. want to get as close to max settings as i can for 1080p 60 fps

For what I've seen, a 780 seems high for a recommended gpu.
Mods on PC won't be available at launch, the Creation Next modkit arrives a few months later.

Also, both XB1 and PS4 will support PC created mods.

I don't think any scripted mods will make it to the consoles (think every "script extender" dependent mods), and there is a lot, a big lot. I could be wrong, and it would be great for PS/XB users, but I'm highly doubtful.

I'm a little surprised at the 4790k recommended. What effects in a game is demanding on the CPU or is it simply AI calculations and stuff?
Still, my 980 means I might be able to go over 1080p and still maintain 60fps. I wonder what AA solutions the game uses?

Don't put too much stock into system requirements. The 4790k will very likely turn completely overkill for a game whose design is fine tuned for low end CPUs, unless the PC version as insane draw distances or something.

Isn't 4770K faster than 4790?

Nope.

But as usual we have no freaking idea what are their targets. If they target close to max settings at 60fps then the 780 makes perfect sense, however imo they shouldn't aim that high : high settings at 1080p and 30-40fps would very likely bring rec specs closer in line with their minimum at least on the AMD side.

I would like to know if this will require DirectX 11. My card (ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics) does not seem to support that.

The other requirements I don't meet quite fully, but I should be able to play the game at very low settings.

Passmark:

Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.50GHz: 10,182
Intel Core i7-4790 @ 3.60GHz: 10,044

Passmark is not a very relevant metric for CPU perf, especially in games. Check various CPU gaming benches around and see for yourself.

Both should do fine though.

Not stipulated but it goes without saying you need at least DX11 to play modern AAA games.

The i7 requirement is kind of weird... not sure why hyperthreading vs a i5 is so important.
There is a good number of games which benefits from HT, no idea if Fallout 4 will be one of them.
Sandy/Ivy/Haswell I5 should do fine but it's absolutely possible you run into CPU bottlenecks when paired with a very fast GPU. I know I'm CPU limited to a degree in many games I play.

I don't get why the i7 too. For what I know, the Creation Engine (an heavily tweaked Gamebryo) is badly threaded (think Skyrim Whiterun's steps to Dragonsreach), so unless it's been corrected for Fallout 4, an i5 will be enough, no need for hyper-threading.

You basically just said "with the lone exceptions of their last two games on Sony platforms." That doesn't instill much confidence.

Thing is, in the case of those two, we know what the problem was, and that problem is not replicated on either of the modern consoles, so there's no reason to think it'll happen again.

And if it "unlocks for play" at 12:01 I assume it will have a preload on steam, though it isn't explicitly called out in the release.

Vacation got approved. Can't wait.

Nice - should be able to run it well enough. I've still got a 770 and a 3570k at 4.6GHz, but seems like that's still going to last for a while.

Any word on if Bethesda's going to allow for preloading yet? Seems implied with the unlock comment, but a confirmation would be nice.

It will be a great boon for modding to finally have a 64 bit Bethesda game.

I'm sure some people will get up to 20 GB memory used by the process in no time :P

I could play Skyrim fine though that's DirectX 9 of course (and under Gamebryo/Creation Engine). Ah well, I'll see how it goes with Fallout 4. I cannot afford any new hardware unfortunately (had I a motherboard with a proper PCI Express port I could use this DirectX 11 compliant GPU I have).

Your 4770k will easily pass the 4790 with a very modest overclock. I doubt either would run into trouble without mangling the .ini file for silly lod though.

Skyrim released in 2011 and was designed for old consoles. Not the case anymore with Fallout 4, just look at various AAA release and you'll notice they're almost all DX11 only.

Yup, was talking about that with a friend yesterday. The 64-bits client is really welcomed. Maybe it's time to get another 16GB "rampack" on the PC.

Doubt it. 2 decent cards like a 970 or 980 will probably be enough to handle a game like this in 4k with most features turned up. I will be safe with my 3 980Tis tho. 😊
Haha, expecting decent if any SLI support with a Bethesda gamme is quite funny.

This clearly means it is truly coming out, if anyone had any doubts about that. But recently there was a thread about how it was odd there was basically any real news and new footage.

I love how Bethesda handled this. Silence for years, then out of the blue a reveal trailer and releasing the same damn year. Lovely.

Well, as expected, time for a new graphics card...

Hunting on Amazon! Sadly, I was eyeing the GTX 970 for the longest time, until the 3.5GB bullshit.

I just bought a i3-4160 none of the recent games had a decent improve in FPS with a cheap i5 :(

Will I be able to play this with only two cores? or it won't even start?

So fucking ready for this. People called me nuts for getting 32GB of RAM. Now I'll show them with my 16000x16000 resolution boob texture mods.

Thanks to getting the 970 my OC'd i7 920 is still chugging along, shouldn't have any problems since I've got that little chip hitting 4.1gz.

Can't wait for more Fallout.
