Fallout 4 Important Release Info ( PC Sys Requirements and more)

My specs are i5-4590/16GB/290.

from looking at benchmarks a 290X is only 3-8fps more than a 290. Also, I have my 290 overclocked to by ~12% so it should beat a stock 290X, right?

and as far as I can tell the only difference in the cpu is an extra 300mhz (stock speeds) and hyperthreading.

I should be fine right? I just hope these specs are for 1080p 60fps with everything maxed out. They do seem rather high.

Don't listen to this guy!

Many games like BF4 destroyed my i7-920.

That's weird, I haven't even overclocked my i7-870, yet it runs BF4 just fine on high settings. The only problem I ever had with my cpu was when my fan was fucked so my cpu got thermal throttled, but that was easily fixed by replacing my fan. Now it runs games like the witcher 3, assassins creed: unity and MGS V without any problems.

My i7 950 has been chugging along just fine in everything recently. It had issues in places in GTA V while on Windows 7, but after jumping to Windows 10 everything has been much better. Granted, I'm not trying to hit anything above 60 FPS and any 3DMark scores I have are shit but synthetics don't matter anyway.

I'd say Nehalem processors will continue on just fine for a bit, I'm really surprised I've already gotten about 6 years out of my CPU, motherboard and memory.

Hoping this continues to ring true in FO4, might have to finally break down and upgrade if it doesn't perform well.

Which one means pre-install will begin: when the game is "available" or "unlocked" (one is 12:01 and one is 12:01 EST)? I need around two days to download the game and I already pre-ordered it digitally only for the pre-install option.

I think they both mean "when you can start playing the game". There is no pre load info yet.

This is gonna be tricky. MGSV looks amazing and runs like greased lightning. Let's see if FO4 is going to be a rushed, janky mess or if they've actually got their shit together this time.

That's the weird thing. Bethesda Softworks doesn't really rush their titles. I mean this game has been a long time coming so it's weird that even after long dev times their games tend to have certain problems. Just have on-par animations for once please. Just hire some good animators dammit.

Wouldn't count on it.

i7 3770@3.4 GHHz/10GB RAM/GTX 970

Here's hoping my CPU will hold. Way above minimum, below recommended.

Yes, if I remember correctly all of them were hard capped at 60, and even though you could unlock it to 120/144, apparently it wasn't always stable.

Pretty sure Vsync kept it at 60 by default for most gamers, but since both the camera speed and the physics intensity were tied to framerate, people playing at framerates of 120 or 144 had some pretty trippy experiences.

Check out the cart-ride intro physics as an example =P

Yeah it runs without problems but isn't steady min fps without high OC.

After getting motion sickness trying to play New Vegas on PC, PS4 is probably where I'll be playing this.

Weirdest thing ive ever heard... the platform with the lowest frame rate and likely fixed fov is the most likely to make you motion sick. And thats not going to be the pc version.

Dunno, something about New Vegas makes me feel sick. Doesn't happen with other games/fps. But I did try to play it with mouse + keyboard as I don't have a controller hooked up to PC.

All I want is to be able to hit 1080/60fps. That's my goal. The i7 recommendation is strange, but I'm not my current CPU will handle it just fine.

GTX 970 FTW overclocked... forget exactly how much.
i5-3570k overclocked to 4.2
16GB RAM

Hoping/thinking this will get me 1080/60. If not, I plan to sell my 970 and upgrade to a 980ti

You'll get 1080p 60fps easily. A 970 is obviously better than a 780 and an overclocked 970 will beat a 290X and your CPU is just fine. The only thing is if the game really needs that i7 due to hyperthreading then at worst you'll need to drop a couple settings down to get a solid 60fps.

I definitely wouldn't upgrade to a 980 ti unless you want to mod the game a load or play at higher resolutions/frame rate at some point.

I'm part of the people that love this game's visuals but technically it really isn't anything impressive. It would be mind-boggling to me if this game will be more demanding than Witcher 3.

Just hoping the system requirements are exaggerated or their tests just involved some useless and way too demanding effects everyone will turn off anyway (supersampling, for example).

the game is WAY cheaper on the psn Usa store...59.90$ vs 69,90€.

Anyone knows if I buy the Usa version and play it on my EU spanish account I would be able to download the spanish voices?

Running smooth (above 60), maxed at 1080p with an i5 4490k, 8GB and Vapor-x 290x.

However, got smoe black screen flickering, when in first person when I try to zoom, and the game hard crashed on me once. This hasnt happened on any other game, so I'd imagine the problem is driver related.

Its pretty fun, but just like BF4, I cant justify spending so much on a game, I'll probably get it eventually when it hits 15€ though.

Edit: Woops, mistaken this thread with the Star Wars Beta thread...Ignoree !

Sigh. And here I'll be waiting until UPS delivers the game on the 10th, probably at 6pm, if I'm lucky to get it that day at all. Usually I can be patient for a game to arrive, but not this one. Unfortunately had to do online this time because of that pipboy edition. Now I'll be forced with the hard choice of visiting gaf while others play the game and post or trying to pass the time another way.

At the very least I'd avoid the OT just to be safe. I remember with Skyrim you were able to VPN unlock very early on Monday the 10th, I think it was around 7 or 8am my time.

No early unlock for me, will be waiting for my Pip-Boy Edition to arrive from Amazon. Been replaying through Fallout 3 off and on for the last few weeks, my hype level for 4 is pretty much through the roof at this point.

I was going to get this on Amazon because A) it's a bit cheaper and B) it comes with the S.P.E.C.I.A.L poster. But if it unlocks 00:01 on the 10th (in the UK) then I'm going to get it on Steam! Just can't wait.

Liar! You've got a leaked copy!! Let's Get him!!!

If you buy it on Steam/from a digital retailer (which will net you a Steam key in time to pre-load), you'll be able to unlock it sooner still using a VPN. The game should unlock first in New Zealand (UTC+12).

Yikes. Maybe I can avoid major spoilers if I read only the start of the thread...maybe...

Kind of crazy to think this game is going to start arriving at stores and warehouses in like 2-3 weeks. Might even get some leaks in 3 weeks time for early sold copies! After waiting like 7 years for this game it blows my mind.

Thanks. I still may eventually upgrade to the 980ti mainly because of my obsession with VR. I bought the 970 and have gotten a lot of mileage out of it in VR already. It's tough to decide, because I can easily sell the 970 for almost $300, and pay the difference for the 980ti. Or I can wait for the 980ti to drop in price... but by that point the 970 won't resell for as much. So I really don't know what the best decision would be.

This game is going to be a blast to play in 1080/60. I've never been a huge PC gamer, but now that I have experienced 1080/60 in games like GTA V and The Witcher 3, and compared the gameplay to my friends PS4, to me it's night and day. I don't know if I can go back to 30fps anymore, unfortunately. I'm willing to drop settings if needed so long as I can hit 60 in this game.

Skyrim retailer copies for 360 appeared online two weeks before release, people were streaming it.

Oh yeah, I forgot how early 360 versions leaked both at retail and online. At least with the current rules about no OT except 24 hours before it will be a bit easier to avoid spoilers on GAF, just avoid the spoilers thread and hope no one decides to post unmarked spoilers elsewhere.

I managed to avoid Xenoblade X spoilers despite the Japanese release and reading a few various threads like streaming threads. You just got to know when to bail.

Aghhhh, this will be my first Fallout game where PC is a viable option. Not sure whether to go PS4 or PC yet.

Mad first world problems over here.
if you can buy a bethesda game on PC, then you do that. Not even just for mods, but for the console. I fixed like 30 broken quest flags in skyrim via the console. Its nice when something goes wrong knowing you will be able to do something about it

Mods just add another reason on top of that, and rememebr that just because consoles are getting mod support (at least xbone) doesnt mean they are getting every mod (not even close, and im not just talking about nude mods)

Very true. I suspect what it'll mean though, is that we get the more robust, polished mods, but don't get 30 different kinds of outfits to make your female character look sexier/nude. Or dude have giant dicks with console commands that can make them erect.

No. What that means is that it will be like the difference between mods on the Steam Workshop and the ones on the Nexus. Steam Workshop mods were simple to install, and had some real stand-outs but due to prioritizing installation simplicity (the route that the console mods are surely going to take) there were limitations that made it so you could never go as buck-wild as possible.

A one-handed magician (limited mods) can still do some incredible tricks, but a two-handed magician can do more.

I don't know why anyone would buy a Bethesda game on consoles if they have a capable PC.

Not trying to sound like a dick but these games are known for being blown way open via mods.

Also 60 FPS with a PC that isn't 10 years old, mouse controls for better aim, key shortcuts, fluently switching between game, browser and whatever.

It really isn't even a question with most multi-platform games, imo.

That's the weird thing. Bethesda Softworks doesn't really rush their titles. I mean this game has been a long time coming so it's weird that even after long dev times their games tend to have certain problems.

The old Bethesda release cycle was 2-3 years between titles, we haven't had to wait 4 years since Morrowind to Oblivion. If you remember, Oblivion looked incredible at the time.

This game was most likely going to be either last-gen or cross-gen, but at some point Bethesda became convinced that next gen consoles would enable them to do much more, so they converted their assets for the new systems. Like other devs, they were likely caught by surprise when they discovered how underpowered the PS4 and Xbone are, and couldn't escape as many constraints as they thought.

This is why the graphics are average and a lot of interiors are separate world spaces with loading times. Bethesda obviously isn't setting out to make a technically mediocre game, they were just blindsided by the fact that modern consoles still can't handle tracking all of the NPCs, equipment, and interactable objects they fill their worlds with.

Hoping my box can manage,

3570k
8GB ram
GTX670

Really don't want to upgrade if I can help it, was waiting on VR releases before I do that

This will be the first Fallout PC game I play at launch. Been out of PC gaming for a while, so hopefully this brings me back in.

For those that have played Fallout on PC, is it a better experience with a gamepad or KBM?
