i havent even thought to ask until just now but does HH (and Dead Money as well) seem like they can be accomplished without combat?

If you have a fast character with high sneak and speech, then yes.

About the begining of the dlc

Is everyone suppose to die?

It happened to me also, and I got 2 failed missions a little after lol but that was my fault...on the 360,I got a few ``takes forever to get out of the vats slomo screen as well``

Really enjoying the game so far and played for about 6 hours and have only scratched the surface of the storyline (Dead Money took me ~10 hours or so). The scenery is great and I really feel like great care was spent balancing the encounter rate which seems increased compared to the Mojave wasteland but with nice amount of variety (both in enemy type and difficulty). The writing is definitely in top form so far, quite possibly more so than even Dead Money which I was very impressed with.

Also, the stars... so pretty and distracting that I didn't notice a goddam bear about to eat my face off. Not gonna lie - I screamed.

Just to be sure. This raises the level cap right?

Yup, each of the new DLC will raise the level cap by 5 so you can become a level 50 god by the time all of them are out.

Old World Blues will give you the option to cap it at level 30 if you so choose

Anyone catch that Fallout 2 New Reno shout out from Stella?

Also...

They were mentioned. I never expected them to be mentioned in any game ever.

Lots of Van Buren shouts outs too.
Oooh nice.

edit: and also great to hear about the possibility of pacifist DLC . i didnt even think about it until just today.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

Apparently there's a
Desert Ranger Combat Armour
somewhere. Where?!

Ok, I've played it for about 8 hours and I've only done one quest. But that's due to my playstyle, I am methodical, patient and heavily use sneak.

Alright~ It's working for me now. Now, here's the real question: should I replay Dead Money first or play this one first? I built a new character so that I could do a little more with it.

To me Dead Money is far more challenging. So I suppose it would be better to play Honest Hearts first and then Dead Money with a higher level character.

Oh no, I've already played through Dead Money with a different character, and I'm roughly at the same skill level as the last time (I play the same damned character every time ;__;), I'm just wondering if I should play dead money for the loot first. I think I might...

Its really sounding like my GOTY non-pacifist playthrough is going to need a mod to cut the XP down to 1/5 or something. i hit max level with zero combat xp with no real challenges. The DLC might just be too easy when you are a walking god.

Mods already make that easy, but I like being a walking God. I took a bunch of stealth boys and the YCS gauss rifle (with MC ammo) and basically just murdered about 15 or so deathclaws, Mother and Alpha-male included, in that little cove they have on the other side of the river. I did this even without the need for mods.

Just finished with it. I liked it a lot. You can finish the story in 2-3 hours but there are plenty of areas to explore and some optional quests etc.

Just finished, I have to say its probably the best out of all the Fallout DLC (Fallout 3 DLC included). The atmosphere is amazing and the characters are great. Can't wait for the next DLC, bring on june!

I got it in one of the caves at the sorrows camp. Sorry, I don't remember which one. There were a shitload of beartraps and tripwires if that helps. Facing the computer, it's just behind you next to the survivalist bag.

Pretty good so far. Having fun exploring Zion

Working on finding all the caves with those terminals with the diary of that one guy who was hunting the Vault 22 survivors and reading about his family.

Same here.

I now feel like I need to run towards the nearest living thing in my vicinity and kill it with my bare hands.

If you take the whole thing into account, does it seem about as long as Dead Money?

Because that hit the DLC length sweet spot for me.

Not getting that feeling yet and I'm thinking maybe half way in so far. Of course, my gobi is making short work of pretty much everything offered so far. Writing and direction not so sure yet.

If we're comparing to Fallout 3, it reminds me of Point lookout, the creepiness and overtones definitely.

Enjoyed the entirety of the DLC, i did not like
daniels
ending, but i loved
Joshuas, revenge
is sweet, but i turned
him
away from it.

Old world blues is definitely not something i'm looking for, i want Lonesome road!

Also, is there next dlc hints, just like in Dead money and the canyon wreckage?

Joshua mentions
another courier with ties to the Legion
but that's all I saw.

I'm really enjoying it so far. It feels very much like what I expected based on the description, and it's executed really well. A mountain hike vacation away from the Mojave in a really nice unpolluted part of the world. There's good attention to detail in terms of making the entire area feel much more natural, cleaner, and more alive. Doesn't feel like a wasteland at all.

The approach Obsidian has taken with the first two DLCs is really good. There's a solid lead-in from the Mojave into the DLC location, and it genuinely feels like a holiday campaign which is not only distinctly different from the main game, but so far they're also distinctly different from each other. I <3 Obsidian Fallout.

Haven't officially started yet, the decision on what guns and armor to bring with the 100 weight limit was tough!

I had to keep my Holorifle+ even though the ammo takes up so much space and I'll probably run out and have a hard time finding any more while there...

Also brought This Machine, All-American, and Love and Hate if worst comes to worst and I need to go melee (not my character's strong point).

Haha wtf, in this mission about finding the
bighorner calf
. I go all the way up, find it, am about to come down, and
fucking Dead Horse hunters start killing all the bighorners, even though I have an optional objective of not killing them, and of course I get the blame for them being dead
.

Got to download it today after all.

Managed to get to the angel cave before I quit for the night. Looks like a fun journey ahead, surprisingly nice landscape and once again, nice fresh unpolluted water.

I always kind of chuckle at that, we spent hundreds of hours, getting shot at by ultra patriotic jerks in black power armor and almost died canonically trying to get a damn water purifier working in FO3 and a bunch of crazed tribals holed up in a canyon and Vegas have all they could ever need just out in open lakes and rivers.

I've put about 4-5 hours into the DLC so far, and I'm really liking it. I have not beaten it yet, and I'll probably put in much more time into exploring the region before beating it. For those wondering how this compares to Dead Money, I'll say that in many ways, this DLC is designed as a counterpoint to Dead Money's design style.

Dead Money was an intense and restrictive experienced designed to test the wits and observation skills of the player, and it was designed as an extremely linear and character-centric experience. In that sense, it took most players the same amount of time to complete the DLC, but it also meant that every play through of Dead Money regardless of choices or character style, would result in most players seeing 90% or more of all the content of the DLC.

On the other hand, Honest Hearts is designed as an open ended vacation quest far away from the Mojave. The setting is more laid back and relaxed, the scenery is beautiful, there are random weather effects, no sign of radiation in the environment whatsoever, and huge sprawling vistas which look magnificent in both day and night. The structure of the DLC is also very different. At any given time you have multiple open objectives, sometimes each objective has multiple ways of completing the objectives or alternate/optional objectives. The player is generally free to explore as much or as little of Zion National Park as desired, and there is a substantial amount of completely optional, and even hidden content.

So yeah, it's totally possible to blow through Honest Hearts very quickly, unlike Dead Money, if you want to. Some players/characters might even prefer to do that, just to get access to the .45 Auto ammo and guns, and return to the Mojave to use them. But those who want to take their time to enjoy the sights and sounds of Zion definitely won't find the content lacking either. I wouldn't say this is "smaller" than Dead Money by any means. Just designed differently.

Suprised at how short this was, went to every location on the map and did all the quests in about 5.5 hours. The ranger armor is cool, its nice to finally have some that is not tied to the NCR. Didn't really care much for the overall story, but joshua was pretty well written and had fantastic voice work. The area was well crafted and was a nice departure from the nuclear holocust.

Overall I'd say I liked it a little less than Dead Money. Point Lookout still remains my favorite DLC though.

I beat it today. Wow that was pretty good. I love all the fallout n2 shout outs, like making pornos in New Reno...oh and lots of Van buren shout outs.
