It is?

Edit: It is! Always thought it looked familiar, but the tube looked too short (and looks a lot like a penis for some reason).

The new weapons packs came out today, right? How are they?

There's really just one weapon pack ($4). The other DLC that released today is a collection of all the possible pre-order bonuses that you can start the game with. The latter is a little bit lame since it just dumps all of them on you instead of having you choose one with a new character. It's quite a lot of junk to be hauling around at level 1.

The Gun Runner's Arsenal though is godlike however for it contains the Bozar. All my chanting of "Bozar... Bozar..." into a mirror since before this damn game came out has apparently paid off. And it is glorious - though expensive! But it also adds dozens of other not-Bozar weapons, something like 40+ mods for all variety of weapons (both new and ones that previously did not have mods), new challenges, and new ammuntion types for most existing weapons.

Basically you're paying $4 for the opportunity to pay 27,000+ caps for a Bozar.

The weapons are pretty expensive, I had the Better Casino mod and have won all the caps you can and I'm starting to run low after buying a few and the LR mods.

27k caps? Jesus. I'm going to have to bring a lot of bullion back from the Sierra Madre.

It and the unique Fat Man are the most expensive ones I've encountered. The character I'm playing is not too hot on Barter right now and I think it was just shy of 29k for the Bozar. Some of them are quite a bit cheaper; Sleepytyme was less than half that.

My current Lvl 50 character has max Barter, and if I remember correctly, the Bozar was $22k for me. The high-end guns in this DLC are certainly the most expensive stock weapons in the game. The stock Red Glare from Lonesome Road is like $15k stock, but with its 3 mods it goes up to like $45k. Quite pricey for these recent weapons, so I'm glad I scavenged like crazy during Lonesome Road. Enemies there have lots of expensive gear on them, thankfully.

Speaking of the Gun Runner's Arsenal, wasn't this DLC also supposed to come with a few more achievements? I'm still only showing 70 on the Xbox.

The Bozar is seriously God-tier. Only thing from GRA that I've used extensively so far, but god damn is it good.

My character is pretty poor now, but it was worth it.

Worth every single cap and then some. Thing is glorious.

Though I am also really having fun with the new shotgun ammo too. With the Riot Shotgun + And Stay Back and the Bozar you can be overpowered at any range, versus any target. I kind of understand why they did not introduce a burst-fire shotgun like the CAWS or Jackhammer because with And Stay Back you'd be redefining the term "street sweeper."

Too bad ass. I'm going to be playing this non-stop until RAGE comes out.

Quick question for PC players....

How well would this run on a new MacBook Air? I'm picking one up later this week, and I thought I might try this out if possible. I've played about 500+ hours combined between Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but all of that time was on 360, so I've missed out on all the sweet mods. Even with integrated graphics, given the relatively low resolution of the Air, do you think the hardware could at least make it fairly playable, or should I just stop thinking about it??

  • 1.8ghz i7
  • 4GB
  • 128SSD
  • Intel HD 3000
  • 1366x768

just started this on my modest laptop last night, man i love this game. I'm shot, crippled, dehydrated, poor and i just stole the clothes from another courier. My guy is an older, hard lived simple man. He only wants to get Benny, the woes of these others are nothing to him. can't wait to get into the DLC

True to Caesar!

Man, I feel like a pig rolling around in mud right now. There's so many fucking cool new mods and things in GRA that I feel like playing 3-4 characters at once. In particular I'm going to be all over my scientist playthrough next; some of the GRA energy weapon mods are just too amazing. I kind of have a secret boner for laser weapons, but don't tell the Bozar.

I haven't even gotten to any of the story DLC yet. Fuck me.

I bought the Bozar and tried it in the deathclaw promontory. Bad idea; thing seems to be worthless against harder enemies, though it SHREDS human enemies.

On a side-note, while doing the Courier's Mile I discovered Max Charged MF Shells for my Holorifle. OMG, the thing eats through anything now.

Have you actually played any of the story DLCs? Because I think you'll be very surprised as to how some of the weapons and stuff in the story DLCs really compliment and add to certain character builds as well.

I'm totally kicking myself for not having an Unarmed character to take advantage of some of the stuff in OWB and Lonesome Road, but GRA's Two Step Goodbye has pushed me over the edge. I think I will be making an Unarmed character in the very near future. :D

But first I need to get off my ass and continue my GUNS EXPLOSIVES CANNIBAL, because she's going to fuck up the Mojave and beyond with the new weapons. I haven't done DM, OWB or LR with her yet either, so that's going to be a super treat. :D

what characters do you guys like to RP the most? i like lone wandering, roughed, survivalist guy. guns/repair/survival and i truly feel like i'm in a post apocalyptic setting, especially one as dark and cynical as Fallout

Haha, those are the same three skills tagged on my shotgunner. My other favorite way to play is my traditional F2 style which is speech/science/energy weapons. I haven't really done the latter yet in F:NV but I'm very tempted to just stop what I'm doing to do that.

that's really strange for a F2 set up, when you consider that he is a tribal! i do that with my guy in F1, so fun

I like New Vegas because there is a real freedom in the past of your character as opposed to being an ignorant vault dweller or ignorant tribal, a Courier is a lot more neutral and can open you up to cooler rp options imo

Well, I figure being the descendant of the vault dweller gives him a better chance of being learned in stuff like that. The way skills work in F1/F2 it kind of feels like your tags are more about what you'd pick up on faster rather than what you are already skilled at doing. I kind of wish F:NV skills worked similarly.

My initial character is usually a male character who is great at charisma and speech, and also a stealthy character. He comes across to other people as a good guy who helps most people, and fights evil, but he's really in it for the money and fame. Given a choice where people won't be able to find out, he'll dick anyone over for a profit or personal glory.

Other variants I like to play are evil characters who are morally bankrupt and take pleasure in totally unnatural things, with a serious mean streak and takes joy in extreme destruction. Or a religious character who follows a strict moral code that I make up based on the game's world, and will never deviate from the code even if it means making it harder for himself/herself, or causing an unfortunate consequence to a community.

Pretty similar to yours. Usually try to do good things to make the world a bit better, but won't turn away any rewards for it, either.

this is awesome, i want more like this.

Wallach i totally agree, definitely, Fallout 1/2 skill progression was a lot better and more rewarding in my opinion. you got like 4 points for a tagged skill? and the others were only like 1, i liked that

You gained skill twice as fast when spending on a tagged skill. However skills also went above 100, and increasing them beyond that made them increasingly more expensive to raise (from 100 to 125 was 2 skill points per increase, 125 to 150 was 3 skill points, etc) so you would both learn those skills faster and could get them to higher maximum levels. It even went all the way up to 300, so if you really wanted to just power a particular skill at the cost of everything else, you could.

My main character was an ex-NCR sniper who actually participated in the Bitter Springs massacre, quit the army, became a courier, and vowed never to touch a gun again (Unarmed/Melee only). He's a Doctor/Science/Speech guy who likes the Brotherhood and the Followers, and basically hates everyone else (and the Old World nostalgics most of all). House, the NCR and the Legion are first on his to-annihilate list. I thought it would be fun to play as a morally-grey extremist for once, and it has been so far.

So yeah, I take roleplay a tad too seriously.

no way, that's what these games are for. I just like hearing different ways we do go through it.

My guy is usually intelligent enough to understand the politics, but too cynical to care. For instance i was (irl) very impressed upon the 'revelation' of Caesar, his true intentions, his inspiration and the reason for his brutality and it all made sense to me. though my character knew this, and mostly agreed, he didn't care enough to do anything. did the Yes Man ending :D

i knew this game was my goty when the 'villain' explained his intentions using fucking Hegelian dialectics of history

Right now i'm RPing a Freeside born jet and booze abusing con-girl that is in it for the money and pretty much just fucks everybody over. I basically just shoot some drugs/alcohol, and whenever she's on psycho i just aggro up her dialogue (with leads to unwanted casualties, etc.). She's got speech, lockpick and melee (for knives) as tagged skills and she pretty much sucks at combat but she makes up for it by shooting buffout, psycho, etc.

No real explanation on how she became a Courier, because i couldn't come up with anything, and right now i'm pitting NCR and the Legion against each other (and every chance i get, i weaken them both) and will probably just sell everything to Mr. House.

How do you guys handle exploration knowing you'll be playing multiple times? How do you do it so you don't feel you've seen it all in one go?

edit: I mean the world map as opposed to the story branches.

The seeing doesn't matter to me, it's the approach and the situation. With one character, my approach into Nipton might have been cautious, with me avoiding enemies along the road and trying to scout out the town for the NCR without making too much noise. With another character, my path to the town could be littered with bodies along the way, while I help myself to their delicious body parts over a campfire, before entering the town and shooting Boxcars in the face.

I see (poor, foul mouthed Boxcars). It's kind of up to the player to make the experience fresh. I'll keep that in mind & try to stop worrying about whether or not I should chase every tantalizing triangle I see.

and not only that, the art design and world design here is really good enough that it's worth seeing multiple times. and there are always always details that you miss

i've never gotten bored leaving the vault of Fallout 3 or seeing the Pentagon (my least fave fallout!), i've never gotten bored of seeing those Vegas lights from the horizon, i've never been bored of the atmosphere of Trade Post 88 which just seems so natural (it's location makes sense) and awesome

I so agree about the design. I'll never forget Camplight Searchlight. Exploring that toxic place in a campy spacesuit, chewing Rad X like candy, fighting off irradiated NCR troopers and then what you encounter in the fire house; all the while listening to cowboy music. For me the game totally channels that EC Comics Vault of Horror/ Weird Western vibe that I love. Nothing else like it IMO.

dude totally, and these are just relatively minor sidequests. I didn't find places like the irradiated town, or the freakin' red mountains of the Tribals for a long time! such variety.

or don't forget the beauty of the northwest and eventually Jacobstown. or the hidden Enclave fueling station? there's so much history and cool stuff in the game

seeing Nipton still gets me in 'woah' mode each time, i'm sayin' this will be a classic game revisited a decade from now because of the timelessness of its design and art. Fallout 1 and 2 are ugly as dirt and the turn based gameplay ain't nothing to write home about, but the art design and game design (as well as basically everything else lolol soundtrack, story, voice acting) shines through and I think the same is here too. We're still going through the new phase

Tell me how you want your character to play and I can help you.

I can't bring myself to make a melee build because visually it doesn't click with me. Bethesda or a moder should implement a system that detects a character orientation to meele or unarmed combat an apply animations of super human feats, i.e. bullet blocking with the weapon or quick ghost like dodges. Not all the time but some animations to get some feedback on way your character could have an actual chance against enekies armed to the teeth with guns. To me it looks silly rushing an enemy behaving like a human bullet sponge.

I know your are supposed to use stealth for this type of build, but it not always click to me that way even.

I don't know if you guys understand what im saying :)

That's how I play, sneaky Sniper type.

S:6 P:6 E:4 C:1 I:6 A:7 L:10

Primary skills: Guns, Lockpick, Repair, Sneak

Traits: Kamikaze, Trigger Discipline

Perks: Everything that gives me higher accuracy and critical chance (Sniper, Better Criticals, Commando, Finesse and so on).

yeah don't put 10 into luck up front - even if you want it at 10, put 9 in then buy Luck Implant. I also like having the sexy sleepwear for its Speech+10 and Luck+1 ability but thats not good for combat!

You can find the Medical Center AND have enough money to buy an implant before you reach level 2! I like to do that and buy an INT upgrade, the new vegas equivalent of the rivet city run! there's a nice route to take that eliminates virtually all encounters, and money can be taken care of by looting enemy bodies from fights (eg NCR vs fiends). Skilled trait is awesome for this as it allows more leeway in random fights.

Not even a need to loot corpses since you have access to various snowballs at level 1, plus if you put 8/9 into luck you can just bankrupt the casinos to get lots of money.

It's like... our Couriers are brothers. Still one of my most memorable.

But nothing tops running into the "ski resort" without ever hearing about it on the radio. First time around, I just listened to atmospheric music. Lo and behold, there the lodge is and I'm meeting one of my favorite NPCs in the game!

FNV is tied with Left 4 Dead's as the game of the generation for me. Infinite possibilities I guess?
