Lonesome Road getting some bad reviews - is it really that bad?
It's linear as hell (a road, duh) and some might be put off by how they handle exposition with Ulysses, but it all ties into the courier arc, so unless you don't care at all then I really don't understand how it's that bad.

There can be an argument made about each of the 4 DLCs being "bad" based on expectations, tastes, and how much a player agrees or disagrees with the gameplay decisions in each. I would not say that any of them are remotely bad, simply very different and unique experiments on the sort of stories and mechanics they can explore in a mini-scenario using the base game engine.

This game has gone through patches/bug fixes already, right? About an hour and a half in, and while I haven't crashed in game yet, it has already crashed ~7 times on the launcher page and sometimes when I try quitting. Skyrim has never crashed in the 40 hours I've played in comparison. Also, does the collision detection become more apparent once you get stronger weapons? Even at point-blank, I can't really tell if I'm hitting something/dealing damage unless I see a critical hit animation.

...Yes, this is my first Obsidian game.

New Vegas and older Bethesda games tend to run better on XP. Lots of crashing on Vista or 7. Try giving the launcher and game a compatibility setting. When I reinstalled New Vegas on my 7 install, the launcher would crash as soon as it ran. Set the compat to XP SP3 and it ran fine.

If it's still crashing for you I recommend dual booting into XP, as it's likely a driver issue assuming your install is clean of malware, etc.

Dead Money was one of the most entertaining DLC packs I've ever played, I think I enjoyed it much more than even Shadow Broker.

I'm currently playing through Old World Blues myself; I think it's pretty funny from the get-go. The only thing I hate is having to fight big groups of Robo scorpions and it's surprisingly hard at level 43 (probably because I didn't bring good armor). I like how characters make references to characters in the other DLC's. The only thing I hate is having to backtrack to several places (thankfully, fast travel makes things so much easier) and the fact that the game's frozen on me several times, particularly in this DLC. Lonesome Road is next afterwards, then I'll finally get around to finishing a couple of main story quests. I think I like Dead Money the best for now.

So far I got the
Stealth suit and I'm upgraded it twice.
The weapons in this DLC are pretty cool as are the characters.

is there a preferred order or level to do the DLC at? I picked all of it up on steam and am playing with sawyer's mod.

I would probably dick around for half the game or more, getting a good feel of the character while messing around with the weapons that GRA offers. Honest Hearts can be done before or around the point where you gain entrance into Vegas proper. After that you should gain access to Lucky 38, assemble your party members, and basically gear up before tackling Dead Money -> Old World Blues -> Lonesome Road. Then return to the Mojave and finish the game.

Thanks, I usually play the game fairly linearly until I get to the Lucky 38 and it really feels like it opens up.

Can some of the DLC areas be traveled back and forth from or are they one way visits?

I liked it the best. It's post-apocalyptic hell but the Pip-Boy map is really janky - It's a bit jarring when you're used to the Pip-Boy map relating spatially to where you are.

The story, whilst overly 'really-deep-and-meaningful-man' is the polar opposite to OWB's cartoonish buffonery.

It's also fairly short, you could do it in an hour or two if you wanted.

You can return to the areas in Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road. Dead Money is a one way trip. OWB is probably the only one that most players will revisit frequently at all though, since it contains an awesome brand new home base with good functions.

Wow. I thought OWB was amazing. They did amazing things with the setting.

I liked it at first, but I don't think I'd even want to replay it right now. It just didn't really click for me: the enemies were tough for the sake of being tough, annoying and seemed to have X-ray vision. The whole high-tech/industrial wasteland got old quick, and the story... Well, the dialog was well-written. The story itself didn't really do it for me.

Really wanna have another playthrough of New Vegas, with some graphical mods. But, I've got quite a few games still need playing/finishing, and I don't wanna burn myself out.

Playing Skyrim a little while ago has tickled my RPG fancy, but it doesn't compare to my precious Fallout New Vegas.

Sigh...what to do...

The launcher was always crashing for me too. I no longer use it by launching the game through FOMM (fallout mod manager).

No idea what is up with the launcher that it crashes so much. I don't recall having any issues with it when I started my most recent run about a month ago, but by the end I was racing to the play button before the crash notification hit or I would have to start it 4-5 times before it wouldn't crash anymore.

I had less trouble with the actual game than I did with the launcher.

Can you get all trophies or achiements in New Vegas with just good karma?

Because in Fallout 3 you couldn't which I hated, like in Mass Effect 2 you could get all achiements with being just paragon or just renegade.

Surprised people did not enjoy Dead Money, playing through all the DLC now after buying it in the steam sale. I liked how you had to finish of the enemies with a melee blow to stop them reviving made the combat alot more interesting and forced you to priortise targets. Loved that there lots of traps and environmental hazards and that it was a good challenge even at level 30.
Also thought the characters, voice acting and writing were all top notch.

My only problem with the DLC is they should have done more to differentiate the different districts and the actual casino itself should have been larger.

Old World Blue made me sell Fallout New Vegas, re-bought it from Gamefly and just beat it. I just don't know how to describe my dislike for it. It almost ruined Fallout New Vegas for me. Now onto Lonesome Road.

Really?? OWB is my favorite Fallout DLC, I couldn't get enough of it...

Not really. Karma's nowhere near as important in this game (reputation per faction matters a lot more)), but there's multiple branching storylines that make it impossible to get all the cheevos in one playthrough. You might be able to stay good karma for every playthrough, but it'd be difficult.

So the JSawyer mod is fun, but I'm still hesitant to do a playthrough on Hardcore. Mainly, I don't really feel like dealing with the rigor of uber-constant updates like water and sleep. What are your thoughts on HC mode? Is it so boring it's not worth it, or is it fun in the MGS3 kind of way? Because I actually liked that addition. Yeah. That's right.

Also, Cass and her whiskey rose perk are just killing it with the bonuses.

Reading through the last few pages of extreme detail characters and their descriptions is also tempting me to do a new character in the same tradition. But I still haven't even tried Old World Blues or Lonesome Road! So excite!

Because the food you carry doesn't spoil, it is practically a non-issue most of the time.

Good to know. Also, I'm imagining the Vault 13 Canteen that the DLC provides makes water a non-issue? It automatically prompts me every few hours or so that I've "taken a sip from my trusty vault canteen".

Are there any bonuses to the mode, like more XP or deadlier combat values?

This thread reminded me that I bought the PC version on a sale after putting 90 hours into the 360 version.

Time for some high res moddan.

That's good news. I was turned off because a lot of Bethesda DLC for F3 was a one-way trip. At least The Pit was.

I think only Operation Anchorage was a one-way trip, actually. You could revisit all the others, but Mothership Zeta only had a few open areas then.

Not like anyone would want to revisit that, am I right.

recently bought and played through the two last DLC's

Good stuff but i sorely missed sprint after playing Skyrim

I bought and installed New Vegas after playing about 80 hours of Skyrim.

I'll definitely need a few mods before I touch NV again. The fasted movement speed feels glacial compared to Skyrim. And maybe it was the little changes that Skyrim made, but I was having a hell of a time navigating menus in NV after playing so much Skyrim. Have to hit E to exit this menu, but it wont let me hit ESC or else another menu will pop up, stuff like that. I can get used to it, but it was still surprising.

I was surprised that I didn't mind the graphics too much. Still seemed decent to me even without high res texture mods.

I cannot hack the terminal in dead money to unlock the door to access the power box for the casino.
It says I need a science level of 75 or above.
Does this mean I cannot progress any further or is there another way?
Thanks.

Anyone know why all of a sudden my NV is crashing on startup? I can get past the launcher but the game instantly crashes saying the exe stopped working. On Win7 x64.

I'm not sure what exactly you're referring to, but yeah there would surely be another way. What quest/place is it at?

Edit: looks like it's this quest? http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Put_the_Beast_Down You need to mess around with the security holograms so you can get upstairs.

Sent to die!

BY THE WAY, I've been spying on JE Sawyer's Formspring profile and saw this comment posted about 1 day ago:

but I'll probably be releasing another update this weekend

I've been meaning to give this game another go after I dropped it shortly after launch and v3 of the hardcore mod is as good a reason as any!

I want some new music when I'm strolling around the Mojave, I'm looking for CD's that feature some catchy 40s/50s music.

You guys know any?

Tommy Dorsey is my personal fav. It's where Sinatra got his start. Also guys like Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Count Bassie and Harry James. Classic swing/jazz of the era.

The upcoming release of the ultimate version put this back on my radar as I missed it when it came out. The PS3 version is 9.99 at best buy now. 9.99 for vanilla New Vegas sounds much more appealing than 50.00 for the ultimate edition. Where there any patches that fixed the issues in New Vegas? Should I avoid the PS3 version at any price? Are we expecting any new patches in the ultimate edition that would not be available to the older version?

Avoid. Hellish framerate drops.
