I completed Old World Blues tonight! Man the writing was great and the epilogue at the end was nothing short of oustanding.

SPOILERS about the ending of this DLC

I loved the fact that you had an epilogue for every of those objects with an AI you repaired. The toaster one was hilarious. He went on a psychotic rage but got thrown in a bathtub and cursed the world saying they would regret not being able to enjoy toasted bread anymore :lol . One of the light switch got into an unrequited affair with the hologram from the light/EM Research center and the Biological Station tried to fertilize the plants in the garden, haha.

The exploration of the world of this DLC was pretty bad though. Everything was bland, boring and tiresome to explore as the bad guy kept sending waves of enemies at every locations you discover or when you progress through the plot. Some assets seemed to have been recycled from Fallout 3 too.
The village was the one when you are stuck in the simulator in Fallout 3, right?

It didn't help that the two major dungeons where repetitive. You had to do those simulations like 4 times each and nothing major changed each time.

Overall I liked it a lot and you get to keep the base and an item that warps you to it as a bonus! It's probably the most functional home base I've found in the game so far (Motel Room in Novac, Brotherhood of Steel Bunker).

The writing is definitely better than FO3 so far (30+ hours in, level 30 and I have yet to enter New Vegas). Can't talk for the other DLCa of NV yet but exploration wise my favorite DLC is still Point Lookout from FO3.

Will now start Honest Hearts!

I'm crippled and nothing seems to fix it. Tried everything in-game that I can think of. Anything command line or .ini related that might help me move at normal speed again? Alternatively, is there a speed cheat/console command for PC that I can use to offset the crippled status?

Ok finally beat it in around 75 hours (with all the DLC) at level 48 with the Independant Vegas Ending. I don't think I even saw all of the quests in the game nor discovered every single area but I will play it again for sure.

The game was simply amazing. When I first played this game at launch (and on PS3 instead of PC), I really didn't like it much. I was playing with a friend and he would pretty much skip all of the dialogues so it wasn't the best experience and the game was stuttering like crazy.

Now that I had control over the whole experience and that the game didn't run like ass, I have to say the game was really good at building a believable world with different factions trying to get complete control over Colorado. The writing was really good and I loved how every factions would comment on what you did for them or against them without knowing it while doing other quests.

When I played Fallout 3, my main source of fun was looting and discovering new areas simply because the actual main plot was paper thin. In New Vegas I enjoyed visiting all of the factions and working for them learning more about their history/situation and seeing the impact it would have on the other groups. Even the random quests were fleshed and acted like little vignettes.

The DLC was also fairly good and the devs had the nice idea to link the all of the DLC to the lore of the vanilla game and between each others. Having jumped in the DLC without knowing anything about them, I was surprised for instance that one was dedicated to The Burning Man or the other courrier.

Like I said, in every DLC packs they will reference the others DLC. Dead Money was about Elijah which you learn about from Veronica and you can learn about him/find some of his logs/about the Sierra Madre in Old World Blues. Lonesome Road let you have a pretty big impact on the wasteland when you beat it and it references the faction wars in the Mojave (depending on your standing with some factions you get unique replies in the dialogue) and Honest Hearts was dedicated to the mystical Burning Man of the Legion/New Cannan lore.

It really felt like a nice big package unlike Fallout 3 complete.

DLC wise my ranking would be Old World Blues > Lonesome Road> Dead Money >>> Honest Hearts.

The writing in Old World Blues was simply outstanding. Topping a toaster with a psychotic rage or a slutty light swtich will be fairly hard. Lonesome road offered a nice boss battle (unlike the vanilla game) an interesting plot and a fairly cool decision affecting the main game.

Learning about the real reason behind the excessive security at the Sierra Madre was a satisfying story and the gameplay restrictions delivered a new experience but unfortunately it didn't stick for long. After recruiting the 3 companions and scavenging a bit you have enough chips to repair the Holorifle, buy it's mods, make ammo for it and get perks from your teammates that let you kill the ghosts the same way you would kill anything in the wasteland. The whole radio thing became annoying in the vault. I played that part on my laptop and there is one floor that is extremely frustrating to do with a touchpad (the one with two indestructible speaker and you have to run through the floor and staircase).

As for Honest Hearts I can't say it was anything special. It was nice exploring an area that isn't completely brown and destroyed but there wasn't much thing to do in the National Park. The main quests are basically two unrewarding multi steps fetch quests and you don't get to interact with the Burning Man that much.

As for the glitches/unstability

¨-I had over 30 crashes (half of them coming from the launcher itself)

-Had to use the console once to repair the game. When I did the White Gloves Society quest, the game glitched and I had to kill all of the "evil" members of the society. My reputation with them became badly glitched and looping. I would get the notice that I gained infamy with them every 5-6 seconds over and over again even an hour after I left the area. It started to affect the performance of the game to the point that there would be a lag to open the pip boy or when quest name were displayed on screen when you get a new one. Had to reset my reputation with them using the console.

-Got stuck in a rock or wall at least thrice.

Overall it's stability was fine (if you take into account that the launcher is unstable) and I guess the many patches the game had contributed to the stable game I got.

I will probably start a new game and try to ally myself with Caesar and go full evil. That could be fun.

Any other similar games to this one?

Glad to read your impressions, it always warms mah heart to see people enjoy this as much as me. I feel it doesn't get nearly enough recognition or love, and it's about a billion times stronger than other RPG offerings this gen. Personal opinion of course.

Currently this is the first playthrough I've done with Cass and she is really helping me out big time. I'm a melee weapons specialist (New Vegas Samurai style) and her "Whiskey" trait's +4 DT is a legitimate game changer for me. Can't wait to see how her story line unfolds, I've never once bothered with the Crimson Caravan or Van Buren plotlines, so this should be interesting.

Number 2345 why I love this game: Was wandering around the Mojave and stumbled upon the Khans/NCR standoff for
They Went That Away
. Ended up completing it with stealth boy assassinations and copious chainsaw action.... Twas glorious! Fuck Manny anyways!

Now all I need to do is find the GNR Katana since I had a modded one before... No hints plz, will find on my own. Anyone use it yet, though? What's it handle like?

Dissapointed in Honest Hearts. Feels like a picnic with living dead.
I liked it, but it definitely wasn't the best. The big conflict was a little disappointing. I don't know, just felt really brief and small, as opposed to the way characters would describe it in this epic fashion during dialogue.

But like jim-jam said, Joshua was awesome. And Zion looked great.

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
I think I'm the only one who actually enjoys Honest Hearts, haha. Admittedly after my first playthrough I thought it was good, but certainly not what it could have been. Graham was the obvious highlight, but not much else blew me away. I'm replaying the game again though and made an effort to explore everything this time, and finding all of the survivalist caches was a real treat. I love good backstory in Fallout and his notes were incredible; I'm kinda shocked I didn't find most of these the first time through.

But yeah, I liked Honest Hearts. Not on Old World Blues' god-tier level, but then, well, nothing is.

I forgot about those, those were awesome. Fallout lore is always awesome.

What brought it down for you?

The plot got way too non-linear and then way too linear really quickly. That and the level design in some of the areas was stupid.

Oh, and bugs like falling off the game map, not being able to complete quests, and completed quests not completing until hours later.

But it's really the only role that Felicia Day has ever wowed me in.

Veronica is the best companion, especially if you play Dead Money.

Starting a new game myself, on the pc after having played it first on the 360. I think one of the main reasons for people not finding the first couple of hours interesting, myself included, is that the game starts off in the least interesting part of the map. The first couple of hours felt like Fallout 3 lite, and game didn't take off for me until I was past Nipton, when it ramped up, it suddenly became my favourite rpg of the last 5 or so years.

Should I pick up the DLC off of Live marketplace now? Or is there a good chance there'll be a post-holiday sale on that stuff?
I don't know how eager they're going to be with the DLC sales with a GOTY edition releasing. But, I also don't have that much experience with the Live sales schedules, so take that for what it's worth.

Tell me how to play Fallout new vegas in order of quests.

Should I do the

Yes Man quests?
Mr House quests?
NPR quests?
Caesar legion quest?

I dont even know how to begin on this game after you meet benny at that casino.

And which sidequests are very important for the storyline? Because I hate useless sidequests that dont contribute anything to the main storyline.

Well, I remember the Fallout 3 dlcs being on sale for around 200MS each last year. I'm pretty sure they'll do the same for NV. Might take a long time though.

I liked New Vegas more than Skyrim. Quests are more open ended with multiple endings, lots of factions, more choices and impact on the game world, combat is more balanced and challenging, etc.

Yeah it's ugly but there are HD texture packs that help a lot.

God dammit how did I miss this :( And despite being in love with Skyrim which I just started playing a week ago, why do I still feel the urge to play NV so badly?
Better quests and storytelling. World has more personality. More player impact on the world. More balanced and challenging combat.

J. E. Sawyer, New Vegas' Project Director has just released his own mod. You can get it here.

It's a rebalance mod. Changes include:

* Max level with all DLCs installed is 35.
* XP rate is halved.
* Base player health is quartered and level-gained health is reduced by 25%.
* Base Carry Weight from 150 to 50 (related perks/things have also been adjusted).
* Energy Weapon ammo weighs less than its nearest equivalent Guns ammo.
* Energy Weapon durability is in the same ballpark as Guns durability.
* Medium Armor has a small amount of DR proportional to its DT.
* Heavy Armor has even more DR proportional to its DT.
* Power Armor does not require a perk, but if you have the perk, the weight of the armor is essentially negated.
* Karma/Alignment values adjusted all over.
* H2O/FOD/SLP rates doubled, but the first threshold is moved from 200 to 400 (statuses roll over ever 150 after).
* Water and Food drop rates on NPCs is dramatically lower. It is difficult to stay out of Dehydration/Starvation by looting enemies.
* Water/Nuka-Cola/Sunset Sarsaparilla heal much less, but now all restore H2O (alcohols will as well, but at lowered values).
* Default Stimpaks are uncommon. A new variant, Stimpak, Expired is the default. It is not that great.
* The player's Workbench recipe now makes Stimpak, Homemade. It is better than Expired, worse than default Stimpaks, and has the PE penalty from Healing Powder.
* All Stimpaks have weight.
* Pre-Order items have been adjusted to be more well-balanced and not worth that much if you rush to Chet's to trade them in.
* A bunch of fixes I couldn't make during development because of load order conflicts, time, etc. E.g.: Automatic Rifle spread re-adjustment, putting the Police Pistol on the Cowboy List, Bozar on Grunt, Junk Rounds are now actual ammo variants you can make, etc.
* Some other stuff.

sounds very brutal on the player, maybe i will check that out when I get the goty edition though. I imagine it actually being possible to get stuck and ruined.

It's a rebalance mod. Changes include:
All of it sounds real good to me. I'll be down for another play through if the DLC goes up as a steam daily deal. I originally played on hardcore, but I couldn't get into it because I didn't feel it was balanced properly.

The game and DLC is on sale right now until Jan 1st. $4.99 for each DLC at the moment.

That balance mod looks pretty good, especially in cleaning up the imbalanced DLC and making hardcore mode more threatening. It's fairly basic but probably closer to the developer's original design intentions for the vanilla experience (well duh, considering the Project Director made it!).

I'm just coming off a two month New Vegas binge to hit up Skyrim. Played another two characters and picked up Old World Blues and Lonesome Road which were new to me.

I have such a love hate relationship with this game. The mechanics, weapons, crafting, repair mechanism, ammo crafting are just stunning. Add in some kind of 'wasteland smithing' a la Skyrim and you'd be all set. My last playthrough was all sniper with Christine's COS rifle from Old World and mostly making my own .308 ammo. That and some C4 with a high sneak and the chemist / turbo / fast times combo were all I needed, absolutely godly.

I still don't like the shit-awful invisible walls, the funneling of the player, the sheer boredom of most of the locales (the Primm - Nipton - Outpost triangle and most of east outer vegas is just useless dead space, whilst Crescent Canyon is visually stunning and absolutely nothing ever happens there - I didn't even notice it until adter 200 hours played). It's also too civilised and not post-apocalyptic enough for me (although Lonesome Road helps that a lot) which is something Chris Avellone and JE Sawyer have commented on.

If I could have the environment of Fallout 3 and the mechanics of New Vegas I'd be in heaven.

Remember, to use his mod you need every single DLC including the Courier's Stash. The good news is that the piece of shit is on sale now until Jan 3rd on Steam for just 99 cents. Lol.

I recently finished Fallout: New Vegas with all the DLC, I've spend around 47 hours. I liked it a lot more than Fallout 3, which I've finished two times. Although Fallout 3 represented a realistic though bleak post-apocalyptic world, it was too empty for my taste. And the stuff in DC itself was just not fun to play.

New Vegas however was a lot better. The DLC's kinda rape the difficulty because of the level cap, but in all it was a harder game. I've died a few times and had to watch out for stronger enemies. The amount of content is insane compared to Fallout 3, which is the main reason I like it more. Same thing goes for the music and the dialogs, really superb.

New Vegas is an interesting world to explore and with the faction system it becomes even better. I loved it that some factions began to hate my guts because of what I did. I also liked that some of my decisions immediately had effects. For one, at the HELIOS station
I wiped out the NCR because I found them arrogant. Then, some time later with some quest, I return to HELIOS and see the Legion has set itself up there, taken the former NCR position. These subtle things make New Vegas so damn awesome.
.

It never felt like a drag too. There's so much original stuff to explore.

The only thing that felt like that were some of the DLC's. Although I kinda liked Old World Blues, it was too much of a fetch quest for me. Then again it was really rewarding
punching the shit out of those asshole computers
. Same goes for Honest Hearts.
I liked the Burning Man myth come alive, but the story and the map weren't that interesting
. Lonesome Road was pretty cool. The only DLC I really didn't like was Dead Money.

I can see myself playing this again in a year or so. One of the best RPG's I've ever played.

I feel the exact opposite to you lol :)

I think NV did alot of things well, but overall I enjoyed F3 alot more, all the monuments is what made it worthwhile for me

It's on steam sale today for $5, all DLC 75% off as well. You can get the game and all DLC for $16.43. Don't even need to wait for the GOTY edition.

Anyone know if any of the Fallout: New Vegas DLC is worth getting? Thinking of finally pulling the trigger on a purchase but I've not really kept up to date with the game.

Well it heavily imbalances the game in the player's favor, but the content itself is fairly fun and well done by WRPG standards. It's worth the purchase at the price today imo. Cheaper than the eventual $40 or $30 GOTY edition.

Old World Blue made me sell Fallout New Vegas, re-bought it from Gamefly and just beat it. I just don't know how to describe my dislike for it. It almost ruined Fallout New Vegas for me. Now onto Lonesome Road.

Have kinda similar feelings about Dead Money, really turned me away from the game for a while.

I got Lonesome Road in the Steam sale, hope it's better. Need to find the time to replay the game with it.

Everyone who wants to use Sawyer's mod should remember to grab all the DLC they're missing within the next few hours. The sale is insane at the moment.
