Fallout New Vegas |OT| Obsidian does what Bethesdon't

Dead

well not really...yet
Damn, ED-E is handy as hell as a pack-mule, but the sound he constantly makes when moving is getting reallllly grating :\

Captain Pants

Killed by a goddamned Dredgeling
Regarding the hotel in Novac, she said I've paid a flat rate and can stay till 'the busy season comes'. I assume this means I can safely store my stuff here without fear of losing it. Is that right?

Anybody else get the issue on the world map where the game frequently pauses, like it's trying to load data? I get that when I'm just looking around. Like I'll look left. Look right, pause. Look left. Look right at the same area, pause again. And it won't stop.

Edit - And the pauses caused by the VATS system is also annoying.

Do you get the same pauses that I do? I was considering it being a RAM issue, since I'm currently running on 2 GB's since one of my RAM chips went bad.

That happens on the 360 version as well.

The game regularly pauses/skips every few minutes, sometimes less. Its been consistently happening since the game began.

A better video card. And no, no more ram since Vegas is a 32bit application. There was mod modyfing an executable for FO3 to make it use 4 gigs of ram.

Now that you mention it I think I'm having the same issue, either that or my guy just has a really girly voice. I also had the Deputy in Primm fly in the air and get stuck in the ceiling, it was pretty strange but I was able to talk to him and continue the quest. Lastly I've had the game freeze up a lot. Not a total freeze but a temporary delay where everything just stops for a couple of seconds, just long enough for me to be worried I'm going to have to reset.

Also PS3 version.
I have the same exact issues on my ps3 copy, deputy stuck in the ceiling and all. I was confused as hell when my manly gunslinger started squealing like Michael Jackson.

You should encounter at least two by virtue of doing the story quests near the beginning.

What do you define as the beginning? The story quest I'm now is heading to Tops casino on the strip
to confront the guy that shot me in the head!

I've done plenty of side quests too...and haven't been presented with this opportunity.

Hrm. That's where I'm at and I found three.

ED-E should be in one of the early towns, the one where you have to find a new sheriff. Boone should be in the town with the big dinosaur (where you get your first room) and Veronica should be at Intersection 188, south of the strip.

The first two require quests to recruit, but the third one should just join with you assuming you don't encounter some kind of glitch.

Didn't run into the first one, which I'm assuming is in Prinn or whatever it's called and I did that quest. The second one
I wiped out everybody in the town and am villified:lol
, and I don't think i've gotten to 188 yet.

Well, there's ya problem!

Okay, downloaded the game update, updated Nvidia drivers, did the .ini edit, dropped the .dll in all the proper places (My Games FNV folder and Steam FNV folder), turned off AA (makes the white flashes go away, and with everything else maxed out I really don't notice that much of a dfference), and it's running a lot smoother now. Still get drops in the same few areas, but overall it's much better.

I've been using my room to store stuff for awhile and haven't lost anything yet.

Played for 2 hours. Encountered one bug: A giant radscorpion was stuck in the environment. I butchered it with my knife. Took me a long time, but it sure saved me loads of ammo. :lol

Some quick questions that have probably been answered:

-What are ammo cases used for? I have been hoarding them since they have no weight.
-Do I get to choose more traits as I level up or is it only at the beginning of the game?
-What exactly does the canteen (gamestop pre-order dlc) do? How do I know if it still contains water?

Other than that, I'm having a blast with the game. I skipped the
deathclaw
quarry sidequest in Sloan since I have a feeling I'm underleveled (
Alpha and Mama deathclaw? No thanks.
) and am on my way to Primm.

I think the ammo cases are used for the ammo benches, to create new ammo types, I've never actually used one though. It's weird, or maybe shortsighted of me, but there are certain things I know from the beginning I'll never use unless I have to, and in this game the ammo benches is one of those things. So I generally leave the casings when I loot bodies. Same thing happened with Alchemy in Oblivion, just no interest in pursuing those possibilities, for whatever reason. I guess I feel like it's too much work to hunt all the disparate elements down, for too little reward. Unless the apocalypse has changed significantly (I'm still early on), you can buy or loot stuff that's just as effective.

I saw stuck radscorpions as well, but they righted themselves as I got closer. I'm also seeing the "gun repeatedly re-raising" bug (360). Nothing else that was that weird though. Great game, it's obviously missing the Fallout 3 "holy shit" factor but still super fun so far.
The Vikki and Vance story is brilliant.

The d3d9.dll mod not working for anyone else anymore either?

It's causing my game to crash on startup.

Causes a huge difference in performance.

Just have stealth killed the whole NCR correctional facility of powder gangers, first sniped all guard tower guards from afar then disguised myself as one and went in.
Waited for nightfall then butchered them sleeping in their beds one by one :lol

After my killing spree quest failed appeared though..against the law..so I guess i was supposed to do something there later as I didn't have that quest in my list yet.

Cool, the .dll fix helped with my VATS problem, as well as my pausing problem on the overworld.

Now it pauses like normal, when loading details for a new area. Performance is now just like Fallout 3. Near constant 60 FPS.

I knew what I had earlier wasn't normal, since I can run Crysis in max settings just fine.

I was given the wrong per-order bonus. Went through too much hassle just to get this, so it's not worth going back.

Was given Steam instead of Live. Anyone with a 360 code want to trade? PM me.

Downloaded the dx9d9.dll file, 60 fps constant YEY, no performance issues whatsoever now.

About 2 hours in, not a single bug, im falling in love all over again. Life will be drain.

Oh and Normal + Hardcore + Wild Wasteland

Just stole every single gun, grenade, mine and ammo out of the store in
Freeside.
It was the energy weapons store, just popped a stealth boy and came out with every gun within. :lol SO MANY GUNS WHAT AM I TO DO WITH THEM HAHAHA

What the fuck is wrong with this game. EVERY time I quit, my autosave/quicksave are overriden by something from the first 20 minutes of game.

I forgot to make a hard save before I quit last time. Now I just lost like 2 hours of progress. How the fuck do I stop this shit?

Edit: Read and recovered save from .bak file. Jesus christ what an incredibly stupid bug.

The whole mood music i mean, the way it changed when i was attacking those Geckos was fantastic. Reminds me of iMUSE.

I've been jonsing to play this again so much during work today I've been reduced to watching live streams. I've never done that with a game before. The weekend can't come soon enough!

Also, Hardcore + Hard is awesome.

this is your last chance

But I plan to spend lots of time outside? Oh you mean like IRL.

Got stalled by a patch but considering some of the issues people have been talking about I'll put that one in the win column.

I think I missed out on housing. I
let Boone kill the motel owner because she was guilty before i bought the room. Maybe someone else will take over the town in a few days.

You get a room key from the Dino Shop clerk, in a few days

Just got the
Oh, Baby!

DPS : 99
Damage : 53
Value : 6146 Caps

Ballin.

Will be getting this tomorrow, any basic tips for the best build for this game, normally i just spread my attributes pretty evenly, but i don't mind shifting them around if it is going to make my playthrough a bit smoother.

Also, a question that I have yet seen to be asked (don't tell me no-one has thought of it!) in hardcore mode stimpaks work over a period of time right ? So is it possible that you can hit yourself up before a fight and they will regenerate you health as you are fighting, or can't you use them if you are 100% health ?
