PS3 version will still be sluggish as hell after a certain amount of playtime results in a larger save file. Strongly recommend buying on 360 or PC.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

And from what I read in the Skyrim threads, installing the DLC accelerates that problem.
I'm almost surprised they're releasing this version for PS3.

Slowly going through Skyrim, will get to this after i finish it. I bought this and all the DLC for 17bucks during the Steam sale. I can see the FNV GOTY Edition being the full $50-60 bucks when it comes out.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that. This edition has all the patches and fixes that are more arranged than downloading and install them.
The savegame files could work, but it's possible to crash your game much often or glitches. This is what I remember from Fallout 3 Edition when it come out. Worked much smoother when I started a new game.

Why wouldn't they?

As long as gamers give them their money for faulty/broken products they will keep releasing them and they won't give two shits.

How amazing for someone like me who just bought the regular edition.

Also, gotta love when you've just trekked 15 minutes across the wasteland (with your slow-ass walking speed) to get to some new location, and when you try to enter, the game just completely freezes up, and you have to restart your console.

Awesome job on the bug-fixing, Obsidian.

The game is usually fun as hell, but I've lost at least an hour of progress thanks to freezes.

I wish I didn't get the original mess for $60. I didn't play it for months, and by the time I did, it was $10 at Gamestop.

That said, if I can get this cheap on Steam, I really would like to try the DLC. Did New Vegas have Games for Windows Live with achievements like Fallout 3 was?

Nope, Steamworks.

I just have to say that this is the buggiest POS I've ever played. I installed the latest patch today, and if anything, the patch made it worse. The first few days of play were fine, but today I've had to restart the console at least 7-8 times.

I really like the game a lot when it works, but fuck. I didn't have these kinds of problems with Fallout 3 at all.

You should always be saving and keeping multiple savefiles, its the basic rule of thumb playing any Elder Scrolls / Fallout game from Bethesda.

I'm with Puddles. I played through FNV this summer and did all the DLCs, but man did I hit a ton of technical roadblocks. A ton of freezes, some which required turning the console off, others that simply meant waiting for 3-4 minutes and then the game would progress normally. NPCs that were supposed to be in one area appearing elsewhere and in the sky... that lady with the dogs at the garage simply vanished, and then wound up just outside the backdoor of the place with all the mirrors, about 2.5 character heights in midair, sitting on an invisible chair. Then about 30 hours later, she was back where she needed to be. Falling through floors and I could always make it happen, especially in Lonesome Road. I know a couple guys at Obsidian and they say it's Bethesda's fault, but then I remember reading somewhere that Bethesda pointed the finger right back at Obsidian. So who knows the real story.

It's a fun and great game, but it would've been much more so without all the weird hangups.

I've been waiting for this. Xbox or PS3 version? I played through PS3 version of Fallout 3 (and all of the expansions) and it was... bearable, although controls were awful (due to vsync) and expansions ran awful. Is the Xbox version much better?

Yes, 360 if you're going to play on a console.

The best way right now to play Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition is to get it on PC and play it with Sawyer's mod imo. :)

For me the PC-version of NV has been pretty stable, at least by Bethesda/Obsidian-standards. I can't remember one single instance of it crashing on me actually, as opposed to F3 and Skyrim where it's a regular occurrence. Maybe the console-versions are worse in that regard?

Definitely. Started a new playthrough the other day and combat is actually FUN now. Even the most basic encounters requires some strategy.

I will definitely get the PC version! It's the only Fallout game I need to complete all the series.

I was hoping this happened sooner than later, and I'm glad it did. Can't wait to try it. Hopefully the retail PC version has Steamworks.

This is nice, it's a shame that Vegas is not a place I like to play games but I might pick this up in the future and after finishing Skyrim.

Also Dirt 3 will have a complete edition soon like this one.

Just picked up FONV for $11 a few weeks ago.

Perusing the DLC reviews, the Old World Blues DLC seems to be the only one worth while, the $50 price tag for the Ultimate edition didn't seem worth it to me.

I do wish Obsidian would handle all the story telling and faction politics in all Bethesda games. I LOVE how every decision has a consequence. My actions/decisions have weight in Obsidian games and I want more of this in my RPG's.

Would i be able to continue my save file from my current game if i buy this? I got NV for free so buying this is a no-brainer for me. Though wouldn't buying the DLC online be cheaper?

And do these DLC show up as a selection on the menu, or are they integrated?

There should be no difference in save files. So yes. The DLC are all integrated into the game. They're not separate things.

Played the game and all of the DLC already so this looks like an amazing buy to anyone who hasn't had the full experience yet.

I love New Vegas...

I admit I've been a bit skeptical about this game. I decided to test the waters by playing Fallout 3 instead and ended up being thoroughly blown away with it. I then watched a bit of footage from New Vegas and it's amazing how both games seem to differ in feel and atmosphere. F3 seems more oppressive down to the greenish tint of everything while New Vegas seems to have a more mellow feel to it, although I could also be completely wrong about this, of course!

Needless to say I really have a hankerin' for some New Vegas now but knowing Bethesda's track record with the PS3, I'm gonna have to wait for some impressions on how well the Ultimate edition performs, the wait is going to kill me. :/

Yes, the games are very different. I prefer fallout 3's dark and depressing DC environment. I think the music was better too. NV is more happy in tone. Bright sunny blue skies and more color. I still enjoyed NV though. It still has that fallout touch that i like.

I kinda disagree with this. I've done quite a few things in this world, and it doesn't feel like anything has changed significantly.

Game spoilers:

I wiped out the Legion forces at Nipton and Nelson. Nothing changes except that occasionally an NCR trooper says something like "We've taken back Nelson!" What if some NPCs were to go set up a camp in those towns? What if one of those NPCs turned out to be a merchant who sells something very useful?

When I got to a high enough level, I fast-traveled to The Fort and killed every living creature inside, including Caesar himself. Has anything changed? No. One NCR trooper did say "I wish I could have been there to watch Caesar die." That's it.

The most persistent change I can see is when I got Primm a new sheriff. Now the casino is open again (which allowed me to use the chip glitch to get a few hundred thousand caps).

I guess the Idolized/Liked/Accepted/Vilified statuses for the different groups make some difference. For example, the Kings constantly send a dude to give me a stimpak or some caps whenever I'm in Freeside.

But here's an example of what I'm talking about: the NCR gave me a quest to go protect the President at Hoover Dam. Since I was on the strip, I decided to see what would happen if I killed Mr. House and brought Yes Man to Lucky 38. The NCR quest disappeared, but I get basically the same quest from Yes Man.

It seems that there are very few persistent changes that can be made in the world. After I became vilified by the Legion, I was hoping that they would send death squads after me, but that never happened.

Someday I'd like an open world RPG where things change massively based on what you do.

It is a very, very good game that just happens to have freezing/crashing issues.

It's an incredible game, but the PS3 version sucks so damn much. A few areas sometimes become unplayable late in the game. It's a gamble.

Really? I got Legion assassins after me quite often. Pain in the ass when they would show up. Esp. at first as I was a little under armoured for them.

Don't have any of the DLC but might pick up the PC version once it's out a bit and drops in price a little. As long as the DLC is on the disc. I have the PS3 version of the base game already. Enjoyed it overall and it's grown on me more messing around in the game world after beating it.

I fucking hated that the game forced you into a conversation just to give you a worthless lizard kabob. At least give me the option to initiate conversation, if the reward is so paltry. I just started shooting Kings on sight.

The monorail sabotage mission would have been a lasting change, if that quest hadn't glitched out on me. I'd have really liked at least one "blow up Megaton" choice.

Fuck! For some reason they aren't showing up in my game. I'm at Level 23 right now, and I've been fucking with the Legion since Nipton, which was like 25 game hours ago. Not so much as a single assassin.

One of my favorite things about Fallout 3 was the random squads of regulators that would show up if you did too much evil shit.

I have had Legion Assassins come at the trading post by Vegas (the one on the highway) and promptly wiped them out.

I'm gonna get it once the price drops, which probably won't take too long. I've played New Vegas the most out of any games I've played this gen, and that was without the DLC and me still having to do a NCR playthrough.

Can't wait to get into some of that DLC. Lonesome Road and Dead Money look the most interesting to me.

So when encountering certain enemies, I've noticed a small red rectangle to the left to their health bar. I take it this means I'm too low level to fight them? I'm fairly positive this feature wasn't in Fallout 3. Don't yell at me for not reading the manual, I didn't get one with my copy of the game which seems to be a somewhat common occourence looking around on various forums. :p

It's actually a red shield. If you get that it means the target's damage threshold (DT) absorbed all the damage. If you see a broken red shield it means you negated the DT.

That'll teach me to sit as far away from my TV as I do. :p Thanks for the quick reply, I'm in Novac right now and get this when encountering
Legion Assassins
. Guess I'll have to go get some better guns for my arsenal or give armor piercing ammo a try.

Sorry if this has been asked, but what order should I do the DLC in, and when?

I'm really, really enjoying this game so far but I have the same complaint with this that I did with the Dragon Age Ultimate Edition, you start out with like five DLC quests right out of the gate with no context for when to do them or what they're about.

I could be wrong, but I'm assuming that some of them build off of stories from the game and probably wouldn't make a ton of sense if you did them right off the bat. And then I know that the Lonesome Road is the last DLC and that there's hints of the events of it in the other DLC and in the main game, but the quest isn't called Lonesome Road, and if you didn't know about it you could easily end up just randomly choosing it as your first quest.

Anyway, besides that one complaint the game is great. The writing is awesome, and I love the tone of the game. It mixes the gritty, apocalyptic stuff great with the light-hearted funny stuff. My favorite character so far is the Nightkin in the rocket factory who is seemingly taking orders from a voice in his head, I hope he shows up again at some point.

The game will provide you with a level range you should be in before attempting the DLC when you get to the quest marker. I completed Old World Blues recently, the story was completely divorced from the main game.

Oh man, I only figured out it's possible to keep him alive after it was already too late. :/ How did you manage to get to him without killing any of his subordinates? They seemed to go hostile on me on sight so I delieved them a deadly dose of ... death.
