Family Guy is So Boring Now

Season 1-3 of Family is my favorite TV series of all time, mainly because of Stewie who is my favorite TV character of all time(se. 1-3 only). Then they turned Stewie into a walking gay joke and lost all the original characteristics that made him awesome.

Ah yes, Roger is undoubtedly the best character on the show, his costumes alone gives him an endless supply of material to cover. What I like best is that even when Roger isn't in the main story arc, he always has some side shenanigans he's getting into that sometimes cross over in the the primary plotline.

Family Guy shouldn't have lasted as long as it did.

14 seasons is too much for a show like this.

It should have never been renewed after it's second cancellation. Three seasons were enough.

Family Guy makes me physically angry whenever I catch an episode or two before Toonami.

FG has always been one of those shows I catch bits of at someone else's house, and every time I've encountered it, it's been a case of this. Maybe I only caught more recent episodes or something, but I wondered how that shtick made this show popular enough to save it from cancellation. Now I'm curious to see episodes where that doesn't happen as much, or at all?

The episodes prior to it being cancelled (i.e. seasons 1-3).

I would not be surprised if it's revealed that modern Family Guy is some elaborate Springtime for Hitler scenario by Macfarlane as a desperate attempt to get the show cancelled so he can work on a new show with a new network.

The gay joke phase didn't last too long. They return there every now and then but it's not bad as it used to be. Stewie was one note character in the early seasons, so I don't mind they changed him. He has his moments with Brian every now and then.

How was American Dad so much better? Did McFarlane not have much to do creatively with the show?

McFarlane only does voices for AD, he wrote half the pilot and hasn't written anything since then.

He hasn't written a Family Guy episode in like 10 years, either. He really is just a voice actor at this point.

The show should've never been brought back from cancellation. The first three seasons are still legitimately great and genuinely funny.

One thing I kind of forgot about until the other day was just how interchangeable the jokes were. During a conversation somehow the movie "Showgirls" came up and I proceeded to recite that one joke "coming up next, Showgirls. Yeah! On TBS. Aww.", and it occurred to me that I could never place what episode that came from if I thought about it for a million years, without looking it up at least. Shows like The Simpsons aren't like that, I can recite jokes or hear someone else tell jokes and immediately know what episode it is from in most cases.

I thought it got worse around season 5 then shit around 7 and I haven't watched since

I agree that 1-2-3 are actually good

Yeah it's not that great but I always enjoy the Brian and Stewie episodes. I prefer the newer Stewie much more than the world domination one.

It's been on slump since Ted came out. Sometimes once the writers get a taste of a lucrative movie deal, they start saving their best material for future movie scripts instead of their present day TV scripts.

Anything with MacFarlane at the helm is garbage. The guy should get the fuck away from the film/television medium and focus on his singing, cus that's the one talent he actually has.

He's not really that great of a singer tbh.

I like Family Guy but I'm not under any delusion of it being actually good, crafted, well-made. I get three or four big laughs from each ep, so I keep watching.

I've only watched the season premiere of the latest season and I thought that was surprisingly good. They could switch up from toilet humor like South Park did and do a decent job, though they wouldn't be nowhere near as timely.

also i'm in the minority that thinks the recent seasons are better than the pre-cancellation ones.

It's been bad since it was un-cancelled by FOX. Probably one of the most unfunny shows in all of existence. The next time you watch it, count the amount of times you audibly laugh and you'll see just how boring and mindless and unfunny the show really is. I still have no idea why it remains so popular.

I stopped watching during a long stretch where they thought it was endlessly funny to have other characters abuse Meg. She just became a punching bag with no other dimensions. It came off as plain mean because it always felt like Meg was the butt of the joke. Like they were trying to take abused children down a peg.

It amazes me what they did with American Dad. I was NOT feeling that series when it came out but it quickly became one of my favorites.

Shut up, Meg.

It's definitely lost a step, but it's not the trash everyone on the internet likes to say it is. It still makes me laugh a few times during most episodes, and I don't care who knows it.

Bob's burgers and American dad and Rick and Morty. Family guy, outside of a handful of episodes, has been boring since the second time it got cancelled. One of their more creative episodes that they should do more of us the one where they go to the mansion and it's a murder mystery. That was so good and the they just went back to being boring (oh and the star wars ones were good)

Family guy was great up til the cancellation. After that it was mediocre. Nowadays its pretty much garbage.
American Dad was amazing, but I haven't seen anything post season 8, I think. So for all I know it sucks nowadays. But its better than FG ever was, that's for sure.

Bobs Burgers is the best 'new' cartoon on TV tho. The burger boss episode kills me every time, CHICKEN LEGGGGGGG!!!!

It's actually pretty funny, but the art style is just ugly, without the charm. Like, I can't stand looking at it, it's that bad to me.

You are not alone. The voice acting besides Archer is always grating to me too. Just not pleasant to listen to or watch, which is why its in the death time slot IMO. Too niche of an audience that can get over that

I think its just the style. Family guy is more cut away gags, which when done right can be hilarious and go viral. American Dad actually had coherent storylines and plot, and less viral moments

Yeah, it seems like Family Guy punches down with a lot of its jokes as well. I know part of the appeal is that it makes jokes about everyone but lately it comes off more like the school bully picking on a disabled kid two grades below him.

Between this, Futurama, and Arrested Development, I think we can safely say that bringing shows back from cancellation should remain a 00s/10s thing. Good television is synergistic, and plopping people in a room together after years apart from that synergy and telling them to get it back just doesn't work, at all.

I love family guy. I stopped watching for a while because I like most of you, I got tired of the new seasons. But I rewatched the last 2 seasons and they were great. I laughed a lot.
I agree about American Dad being better. Seth mcfarlane has a lot of talent.

LOVED the show, was pissed it got cancelled, eventually found out it was coming back, was excited.

Boy, talk about shitting the bed, hated what the show became. But it lasted longer so I suppose that's considered successful huh.

I'll forever appreciate it for a few episodes and some amazing scenes. It's just on TV and there was this Edo period cliché Japanese family scene with the main characters being Japanese. Pure gold.

Edit: Oh boy, that Disney scene. Incredible.
