Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time |OT| Level-5 Dragon Crossing Stardew Fantasy XIV

I picked it up on PS5 but will not get a chance to play until later. It looks cute enough and I think I need something to chill with over the weekend. I was going to go PC because I plan to get a handheld when the new models come out but remembered I have a Portal to carry around the house.

Wasn't expering the game to make a parody about Ocarina of Time's Lost Woods. Damn that was some funny shit.

does this have a PS5 pro patch?

Might pick it up.
Dunno but it's a Switch game, PS5 should be able to run it at max settings with no issue.

Its better than you would think at first glance isnt it? The amount of different systems and content is insane. Glad you like it though.
Yes! Way better lol.

There's a lot of stuff here, and the way every job complements each other and how all the systems come together is great. Plus the game is funny and has a lot of charm, which is always great.

Anyone know how this runs on a Steam Deck?
Haven't tried it, but people claim 60fps at high levels of detail. Also looks pretty good if you disable the post-process stuff like dof.

Downside is only like 2.5 or 3 hours of playtime due to battery consumption.

Why are there so few reviews out? The ones I've seen are positive but it's just weird the game has been out for a couple of days and I can't find hardly anything on it.

Was wondering that too - when I made the OT I was looking for reviews but couldn't find any. Only one on Metacritic is from Game8 which is kind of AI generated I think

Most of the major sites have 'Reviews in Progress' up at this point to just kind of acknowledge it, at least. I'm guessing no review codes sent out for whatever reason so the reviewers got it the same time we did. Factor in that it's HUGE, and, yeah. Will probably see them start to trickle out late next week.

PC bros, here's a mod to be able to zoom further away and tilt the camera vertically a bit more.

Spent about 4 hours this morning just running over the open world section and unlocking all the towers for fast travel. In the process, my primary combat life (wizard) leveled up to 30! I also did the opening quests for each life. I'm ready to get back to the main story now, I think.

Tried the mod and it makes a huge difference, can see it being super useful while exploring Ginormosia. It's also nice to be able to zoom out and see your whole town.

My only major gripe is the music when you're in a building. I even like all the other music but this track is just dreadful and you hear a lot of it.

Finished unlocking all the "life's" last night and started crafting.

I got an "excellent" result on a crafted Tailor needle and my brain was drown(ed?) in dopamine….I've been playing all night.

Someone send help…this has its hooks in me deep.

Level 5 worked with Square-Enix on Dragon Quest IX, right? That game was originally going to have real-time combat and was a job focused game. I wonder if Fantasy Life pulls from that original vision for DQIX at all.

I'm donwloading it. There's no point waiting 2 weeks for a Switch 2 version when I don't have 100% confidence I'll have a Switch 2 in my hands

What angers you about them? I'd like to be forewarned. I am an old and cranky gamer lol

I did the first few life jobs like mining and cutting trees..and they are mostly the same. I expected the crafting to be the same..so I skipped the tutorial...bad idea.

So when I tried to make something, I was thrown into a mini game. And I failed..and failed...and failed. Even tho I was at 99% or something close to it.

Had i done the mission..it would have made more sense.

Overall, the game is simply awesome. I love it

Got myself up to Apprentice woodcutter and mucked about as a Carpenter. Game is huge I progressed too much of the story and wound up unable to get more jobs until I went even further to get back which wasted a lot of time. I'll pick up the other jobs tomorrow.

OK thanks for recommending this and answering my question, this game rocks. I would of just marked it as some kids game if I didn't have more info or know it was level5 game.

It runs great on switch both handheld and docked. It looks slick, no jagfies and a wonderful artstyle.

I am not that far in, but am having a blast. It's really fun the jobs/life's and mini games for them are fun and bring you back. I hope this game gets some love and sales and a sequel.

Hope we still get games like this in the future. Some bitch about limited voice acting a non realistic graphics, but I take that as a pro not a con. The no voice acting let's you skip through as I read faster than they talk. It also means less cost to make. The art style means it can look great on multiple systems.
My concern is that the switch 2 will be all for realism like the ps and Xbox, deva won't make stylized games as much. Hope I'm wrong as this game so far seems loaded with content and fun.

If you are on the fence, pick it up, it's already cheaper than AAA switch games.

Is this game a sequel to the 3ds game? Is that one worth going back and playing? Or is this more like a remake of the first game?

There are a lot of references to the 3DS game, but none of them are in the main storyline so I don't think you'll be missing much if you didn't play it.

This game is too fun lmao, my whole weekend has been dedicated to smashing rocks and choppin' trees.

Waiting patiently for my Japanese physical version to arrive, meanwhile i noticed an error in the OP thread title banner. This one is a bit more accurate LOL

I'm not a fan of how they lock the saves down in this game so you can't roll back to a previous save. (at least on PS5)

I jumped on the dragon and left several quests open thinking I can complete them later. Will quests from the starting area be able to be completed later?

I'm really enjoying it so far. It runs beautifully on the Steam Deck, and the HDR looks awesome on the OLED screen.

What's everyone's opinion on the combat jobs? I started with Magician and it seems kinda basic and repetitive.

Yeah you can get back to it after a while.

What's with the final fantasy songs. I love it but it's like a lot of these job songs sound like songs from early ff games or a I imagining this. The game isn't published by square so how are they doing this?

I bet this game is filled with Easter eggs or suddle nods to different games, fantasy in general.

Also don't forget to replace the starting items when you progress all the jobs, my cooking skill was still using the rented pan and I was wondering why it was so low.

They are composed by Nobuo Uematsu, so no wonder they sound FF-like lol.

Still enjoying it.

The constant interruptions are a little annoying. I appreciate it was the same with the original, but even after ten hours, there's still a steady stream of persistent stops. And they're not even genuine cut scenes; simply pointless breaks in play and the familiar fanfare plays.

It's always taking you out of the flow.

Finished the main campaign in about 50 hours.
This game is my goty easily.

And that is not the end 😂✌️😂

Reminded me that videogames are fun.
Also fuck the last doom.

Those devs need to play this game. And look up what makes a game fun.

Based. I'm having a ton of fun as well, might end up as my GOTY too.

My only complain is the lack of more interaction with the characters in Eternia, like the job masters and their apprentices. Would love to have more quests with them but it seems like it's just the tutorial one and that's it.

Aside from that nitpick, terrific game. I'm almost 50 hours in as well and forcing myself to advance the story to unlock all the remaining mechanics. Have a few areas explored in Ginormosia but haven't gone beyond rank 3 in any of them, and I've barely done 3 treasure groves. And I've yet to touch the town building stuff, my buddies are living like hippies right now lol.

There's so, SO MUCH content to spend hours and hours in this game it's almost scary.

Game also kinda scratches the Dragon's Dogma itch. Love making my party of npc chibis and exploring dungeons with them while gathering stuff and killing mobs.

And that is not the end 😂✌️😂
How are you doing? Endgame is basically treasure groves (sapling dungeons) and grinding ranks in Ginormosia, no? Heard the former can get quite hard by the end of it.

Endgame ads new locked content everywhere also big new gameplay elements.

Right now i am grinding trees and rocks to get both live's to level 60. In the blocked off parts

I also love the fact that smithing is super overpowered self made gear can outdo gear that drops 4 tiers higher.

Are you guys leveling all your lives? Do you select one combat class and then max that or go between.

I still haven't left tutorial island. I am about to finish the last tutorial job, for blacksmith (yes I know you can skip but they are fun and they give you experience, and a better tool when completed).
Finished a bunch of the citizen quests and then will give over my 10k.

So far the game reminds me of traces of Dragon Quest 9, the Atelier games, and a bit Rune Factory. I haven't got to any building or base construction yet, and farming is locked.

Hopefully this does well so we get dlc and a proper sequel.

I pulled out my 3dsXl, which is hacked and I noticed i have the first game on it. May give it a go at some point. (who am I kidding my current gen backlog is a mile long and that 3ds battery will be toast by the time I can get to it, lol).

I started with 1 combat life and the three gathering lives. After that I've been picking new lives slowly to keep things fresh, 50 hours in and I still have to unlock cook and artist.

I still haven't left tutorial island.
Lol, you have a lot of stuff to uncover! Have fun man.

Man this game is nuts, what an unbelievable comeback for Level 5. Oh, here's like 14 different classes for you to level up all with unique skill trees and quests. Here's a 30 hours storyline to go along with it too. Also, check out your island that is like a whole-ass Animal Crossing style game where you can build and terraform and decorate and have people move in. Also, here's this giant entirely separate open world full of secrets and quests and things to do with your little party. Oh hey, how about we do some farming now too?

And all these seemingly disparate elements all feed back in to each other, progress in one is progress somewhere else too. It's like 3 games in 1 and somehow all works. Gonna be playing this one for a while and easy contender for my GOTY.

I started over... ...because that is what I do in games. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Since I found there was no rush to leave the starting area, I leveled all lives to Apprentice level. It allowed me to try them out and get a feel for each of them. I will most likely stick with two combat classes as mains (Merc and either Hunter/Mage) and then focus on crafting/gathering classes as needed. The great thing is, I do not think it would be too hard to level a different class if I decided I need it.

I believe I completed all possible quests (outside of leveling lives) available in the starting area and now it is time for me to move forward. It really does not take much time to get to where I am right now. One thing I learned with my restart. This game is much more fun if I take my time. The only thing I am not sure of is where to focus my points in crafting classes. Combat and gathering I believe I have figured out a good path.

About 25 hours in with my Magician, Miner, and Woodcutter classes in their mid 40s with all other classes lagging far behind, especially the ones focused on crafting. I don't really like how segmented the areas/dungeons are which isn't a problem in of itself, but does become an issue in that everything respawns on a load and as far as I can tell, everything (items, gathering points, monsters) are all placed in the exact same spots. There might be some variance in fish sizes and maybe levels of those monsters/collections points, but for the most part everything feels incredibly static instead of a living/evolving world. If you explore every nook and cranny, you will reset dungeons you are in somewhat inadvertently for side "boss" gathering points. Depending how you approach the game, the repetition might weigh on you more heavily than if you are just trying to complete the story which probably isn't the main draw of the game for most. There are some other minor things about the progression that bothers me as it feels like spinning plates on top of spinning plates and while there is a ton of systems in the game, it feels like an instance of a a mile wide but an inch deep. And the crafting system which does seem to have some depth, really isn't crucial to progression as of yet which feels like a missed opportunity. That said, I really haven't engaged much in the town building aspect which is probably one of the more in depth systems and the experience is compelling enough to push me forward with its' campaign.
