Far Cry 4 PC performance thread

Did they patch out the ability to skip the intros?

They did. Sneaky bastards.

Also, I went back to Far Cry 3 because I couldn't get Far Cry 4 running through Steam streaming. I think 3 is the better game. I may be skewed towards 3 because of the performance issues but... I just like it better for some reason.

Could it be your love for Jason Brody? lol

The new patch is causing a memory leak for me. Having task manager open is showing the game using 3GB+ of memory. Game ran fine before 1.5 :/

First time I've ever had my PC tell me I've ran out of memory when I have 8GB of RAM.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your reports. We have identified a memory leak that is most likely the culprit behind the new performance issues that have popped up after the 1.5 patch, particularly during Open World game play.

I'll keep you updated once we have more information.

Works much better for me after the latest patch. Runs steadily most of the time at 1200p60fps at ultra/very high settings. AA is still buggy though.

2x580gtx oc, 2600k@4,7, 16gb, raid0 hdd

managed to get rid of crushed blacks and ghosting by turning a few settings down (ao/aa), but now I can't play the game for more than 5 minutes without a CTD.

So realistically, is this game on PC more of a headache than its worth right now? Should I just wait longer for the issues to be patched?

i5-2500k
GTX 670 2GB
8GB RAM

I don't need to max it, just something like High at decent FPS without horrendous stutter. Is it possible right now?

I'd say that It should be playable at 30 fps. I didn't have the stutter anymore.

That would explain why my game started chugging along like I've never seen before after about 45 min. last night.

Are you OC'ing at all? I was getting random CTD's and had to back off on my 970 clocks by 25mhz for this game and Unity.

I started playing today, put visuals on Ultra (GTX 970) and it seems like it runs at 60 FPS, but I haven't done any heavy fighting or explored all that much yet

I haven't watched a lot of gameplay videos, but for some reason expected the game to look way better.. its not ugly or anything, just feels that it doesn't look much better than Far Cry 3 which I played on an older PC

Graphic settings aren't applied properly probably, game looked better to me a few patches before now it looks worse.

Yep. It simply does not look as good as it did at release and up to the 1.4 Patch. I noticed straight away as soon as I loaded into a Trading Post after 1.5. Huge downgrade in lighting.

Still "unplayable" for me with SLI. Shadows are nearly jet black, and anti-aliasing causes a ghost image overlay after hitting Esc even once. Not playing it 'til this shit's fixed, if it gets fixed.

Try removing those xml files mentioned in this thread and try again. I haven't had black shadows and super dark night after the latest patch. Anything except SMAA works fine with SLI.

It's totally playable for me (and has been since launch) on my 970/3570K at 1440 with high/ultra settings and SMAA. Usually hangs in the 50s without any major drops (monitor @ 90hz and I cap framerate in mid 60s via RivaTuner - this might help pacing, idk). Not sure if I got lucky with my setup or if I'm just not sensitive to stutter, but I have not had that issue -despite reading many reports of others with similar PCs having a terrible time. I finished the game last week and have been running around doing side stuff for fun and I've had a pretty good experience in general with the performance.

Since you are fine with playing at an unlocked framerate, rest assured, you are not sensitive to stutter at all.

Disablemipmap loading in the config and it shouldn't stutter too much - might want to lock the framerate a bit lower.

Same as since launch for me. On SSD.

I had a memory leak with the original version. Or it wasn't closing it down properly or something messed up. I was worried I wouldn't finish it and would need to uprade my 16GB to 32.

After unlocking more of the map my load times also doubled/tripled ... pre 1.5

I just started playing so wouldn't know anything about that but I did change the option in God Rays to second one, and the game looks noticeably better.. maybe it actually had nothing to do with that and settings are now applied properly. who knows!

There is some stuttering, its more noticeable while driving but it doesn't bother me so much... what is noticeable is the coil whine on my 970 while the menu is loading up! first time I actually get this stuff and its terrible ;p but it never happened before and not during gameplay so whatever

I played earlier today and everything was fine, but now when I start the game after it does the "logging in" part, the menu gets cut in half and so is the game X_X also DA:I just randomly shut off when I played it today, no crashing just closed on its own... actually happened with Titanfall as well

Dammit these PC games! Should've bought a PS4 ;p

I'm currently struggling to get my i5-3570k,GTX 770 computer to run at 60fps while playing the game at Very High. What is the best settings to get a 770 running at 60fps?

A 770 isn't powerful enough for very high and 60fps, drop settings to high with some Nvidia stuff disabled if you absolutely want a relatively stable 60fps.

Even on my system at ultra settings (without hairworks and costly AA solutions, everything else maxed including enhanced god rays, PCSS and HBAO+) 60fps locked isn't possible, it definitely dips here and here.
But I can live with sub60 framerate so I go for it and the game looks really great.

It is powerful enough for other games, not Ubisoft ones.

They're too next gen

Whatever temporal component SMAA uses seems to only work in motion. As long as I"m moving my viewpoint AA looks great. The second I stand still the temporal component switches off and the foliage becomes a sea of jagged edges. The switch is very visible when it turns on and off. Is this normal or is there a way to fix it?

Define normal in a Ubisoft PC game. TXAA has the exact opposite problem in this game; it only works when you stand still.
The game has a lot of problems. I don't think what you describe has been noticed or has a work-around. Maybe force FXAA and downsample instead?

I've noticed this too. And you know what's funny.. I could be crazy, but I think it worked properly before 1.5 as well. It seems to have a lot more jaggies to me on 1.5 and in movement it's fine.

Also, even when forcing 16x Aniso with NVInspector/NVCPL, I find some inconsistencies with its application. Some times it's completely apparent, and then other times you wonder if the bloody setting is even turned on again. What an f'ing mess..

Next I'm going to try and turn off the tweaks from the OP and see if they help with 1.5 at all. And I agree with the post about the load times. They must have increased them to help with the stuttering a bit.

So after the patch my game went from 70fps on medium+, to 30 fps regardless of setting. Tried deleting the config and set everything else up again, but I couldn't get it over 40. Mouse accel seems to be better though, but smoothing and input lag is so horrible that I can't hit anything anyway. Glad I finished the game before they fixed it.

it has been like this since day 1 in this title. there are no good AA options in the pc version. even im motion the smaa option is kind of bleh.
