Fate/Grand Order |OT2| That's Hell You're Walking Into

I remembered the Talos fights being ridiculous.

If you go back in time to around the post I put a link to, you'll find references to some of the fights I had a problem with.

Stinks when they're super hard, but with the story buildup, it would be disappointing if it were anything less.

So, I finally did it!

There were some doozy fights in there, for sure. Between Olympus and Atlantis, I used 3 leyline stones.
1. Achilles vs. Chiron (second encounter. Forced NPC with no command spells nonsense, no patience for it even though you only have to "survive" 4 rounds. Hate these types of fights specifically.)
2. Wodime Olympus battle (would have been fine here but I fucked up some skill orders and got wiped twice when I should have used invincible before his NPs)
3. Last fight with Caenis. (at this point I was so tired - was up until 5AM to just get it done - and I didn't want to piss with RNG invincible and other bullshit. I just loaded up as many ST Sabers as I could with Kaleido and didn't even think about strategy)

Zeus was easier than I expected. I went in with a sub-optimal team, and Taira absolutely demolished him anyways.

A few thoughts about the 5.x lostbelts:
  • I spoke too soon about the translation team. They must have hired a purple hair between Atlantis and Olympus, because they started the pronoun nonsense in full swing in Olympus' story. The very end when they were describing Wodime's last moments with Caenis, it actually made me really angry that they fucked up the touching moment by literally writing "he/she then noticed his/her master, and she/he bla bla bla bla." I would have been still unhappy with the "they/them" crap but the way they did it totally took me out of the moment and ruined that part of the story. Fucking assholes.
  • I didn't care for Olympus in comparison to Atlantis. The stakes got way too high, too quickly, and lasted way too long. In the beginning we were struggling to take down a single god, by the end the entire power scale changed and it felt like the writers were just pulling stuff out of their asses. Very bad writing, very over the top. Felt like a final chapter-tier bullshit-a-thon but we're only 2/3 done with the story. So many incredibly tough encounters in a row would have left at least Master in absolutely no shape to even move, much less win the fights they won. I felt that they had always been relatively consistent with exactly how much Master could handle, and this chapter blew it off the fucking hinges. Sure we had a few powerups that are hard to characterize, but even still my disbelief by the end was at an all time high. Musashi's finale was cool, but I disliked everything else. Also didn't care for the crypters suddenly all being good guys or whatever (outside the obvious one baddy).
  • Wodime's backstory was really touching and I actually did turn an about-face on him somewhat, but once you think about it, you realize that the world is only fucked in the way that it is because of him, so it's hard to feel bad for him at all.
  • Twins were great, and I'm glad they had them self-reflect at the very end about their decisions to end their own lostbelt. It was a very human thing to do and I'm glad they paid that off. They were probably the best "local" reps we've had so far that I've read. Competent, interesting, nice character moments, and actually relevant in the story and events.
  • The forced Mash/story servant stuff is getting pretty bad. I assume they're just going to continue with it in future lostbelts, but I really hate it. It'd be one thing if they put the servants in with type advantage or some other key skill to make it like a "showcase" of said character for pulling in the gacha. Doing stuff like making an Archer servant fight 3x lancers and stuff like that, I don't get the decision at all. Lasagna is totally in control of the enemy typing and stage setup, so there's no reason for bullshit like that, or even "neutral" class enemies. If we can't use the servants we spent tons of money and time on, at least let these parts be formalities in visual storytelling and not some annoying RNG grind to not get critted.
  • Olga Marie was an actual surprise for me. Didn't see that coming at all. Interested in seeing where that takes us.
Final rating, I give Atlantis a 8/10 and Olympus a 5/10. Olympus would be lower if not for the good character moments in the first half of the story. Last half was ass.

I don't remember all the pronoun stuff going on in my Olympus play through but I don't exactly remember every word either.

Their update notes sometimes include "improvements to translation" so maybe they were added later.

The orb god's specialty was regeneration so that's why she was so hard to take down. The others didn't have that.

When you're taking down ancient god giant robot transformers, you gotta go big! lol

Did master get any nanomachines? Been too long so I don't remember. If so, that's why MC was able to keep going.

Now my previously linked spoiler makes sense. ;)

Not all the cryptors are good guys. There's still 1 or 2 evil ones left.

The foreign god may have wiped out humanity anyway, without the lost belts, so it may not be entirely Wodime's fault.

Now Musashi is forever burned out of your servant list in my room

Stinks when they put us in a NPC scripted match but it does help break up the monotony a bit. Forces you to use a servant you may never use and makes you stop and think a minute.

It was the part right after Kirschtaria dies and they give him a little sendoff. I'm already over it, but it still annoys me that modern day mindrot is making its way into fiction that I enjoy. After that dino+DaVinci summer event, I knew it was already too late.

Well I meant more how using the "bullet" basically took Master out of commission for a long time.

Yea I loved that part, no complaints there, but how it just kept going from one crazy thing to the next. It just got to a point where I was thinking "ok fucking enough already" I don't mind the story beats, but the pacing was just too fast.

Nah, Mash/Musashi did but he didn't. The only unknown was whatever power Romulus was giving the group while he was still around. But even still, multiple god fights, Wodime (practically a human god-tier battle), the shit with Olga, and two Caenis fights, one where she was a divine spirit. This is all not that long after fighting 2 other gods, Koyanskaya, Douman, etc. and the core fighters were Musashi/Mash/Holmes. Just too much, IMO for that group in particular, in my opinion.

Yea I actually clicked it last night before I went to bed because I was so curious, I got a good chuckle.

True, but it just feels like such a lame thing to do. I loved the idea of a force of elites trying to kill us, with maybe one of them (Kadoc) coming around to us and maybe sacrificing himself for us at some point in the story. Or even if they'd have just kept it a secret until the end of the LB arc, then revealed it all at the end.
The foreign god may have wiped out humanity anyway, without the lost belts, so it may not be entirely Wodime's fault.
Possibly, but he was also a dick and actively trying to kill us until we succeeded in taking down several lostbelts, and then he was still trying to kill us, but also respected us a bit. Still a shithead in my opinion.
Now Musashi is forever burned out of your servant list in my room
Glad this ended up being a lie. I tried both the Saber and Berserker and she loaded in just fine. Would have been cool though if they actually did something like that.

I feel like the boss encounters are all mostly "stop and think". If the NPC stages were more of "use the skills at the right time and you'll guarantee a win", and less "better hope you don't get critted fucker", I'd have less of a problem with them. Being forced to put Mash in the starting lineup is another black hole of fuckery. Just forces you to waste a spot and bring the swap Mystic Code. Hate that stuff too.

Anyways, I'm kinda enjoying my nightly FGO time, so I'm gonna hop back in and finish Agartha (finally) I still need to do that and Salem from the 1.5 stuff, but it'll be nice to not see servants named stuff like "Caster of the Nightless City" finally. Also need to complete these for various Interludes that have been piling up. Agartha is so fucking easy compared to today's story stuff, lol.

Were either Agartha or Salem good stories, in your opinion? I'm still early on in Agartha right now, chapter 4, but D'Eon and Astolfo are boring. Hope we get some other friendly servants other than those two.

It isn't a lie. I go to tap on mine and nothing happens. It's the spirit origin list in my room.

If the pronoun stuff showed up for you, it would for me in the story viewer so I'll take your word for it.

I don't really remember anything bad about those entries but they aren't part of the requirements for future events though so take that into consideration if you want to catch up so you can do current events. There was a long "play" in Salem I skipped through though.

I just remember the one dude that kept spamming the FGO twitter whining about censorship for Emiya alter's color pallet and Agartha since Agartha wasn't well received in JP because of how "crude" it was so they lessened that a bit to try and not get the same reaction from global.

Oh I thought you meant as the "favorite servant". I just checked the spirit origin list and you're right, both entries are "Data lost"

Yea I should be good for a while at least now that I've cleared Olympus. I wanted to knock these old 1.5 things out, they're always nagging at me when I scroll down the main terminal screen. I've been putting a few hours in before bed lately, and really have been enjoying myself.

Oh I vaguely remember that Emiya Alter controversy. I'm neutral on all Shirou/Emiyas so I didn't pay much attention.

I think November or December's event requires at least LB6 or LB6.5 and that's possibly the longest lost belt. Don't forget LB5.5 is in there.

5.5 is skippable now, it will allow me directly into 6 if I choose to go there.

Anyways, before jumping into Liz-o-ween,

It was ok. I actually liked the more mature themes without filters/censors, but there were definitely problems. I also don't appreciate that the only servant we've been able to hit on/creep on is fucking Astolfo. Why is it ok since he's a trap, but not ok for any of the female servants? Sometimes they don't even give you a choice and make you say something perverted to him no matter which dialogue box you pick. Double standards I guess. Though I do wonder if that's an EN localization thing and the JP one was different. I don't care enough to look it up and translate it myself, but still annoying.

Anyways, I liked the individual kingdom bits but the Scheherazade plot was kinda half baked. They could have actually made it compelling since fear of death is a common thing for people to deal with, but they just kinda opened the can of worms then threw a demon god pillar sticker on it. I vaguely remember JP being super pissed at Schehera, but I don't remember exactly what it was for. The Columbus heel turn was foreshadowed so damn much, I'm sure it surprised exactly nobody. Shame that this chapter was received so badly because I like the exploration of more taboo themes. Fergus becoming more like his older self in the last section was kinda funny too.

I give Agartha a 6 out of 10. Interesting but a lot of missed potential. Was there a servant Herc version of the Megalos skin? I seem to remember seeing something about it a long ass time ago but I don't know if that was just fanart or if there's a spiritron dress for him. I'm also super sad we never got a Dahut skin for Drake. I love the look, regardless of the servant's story and character qualities. I think it uses the same model/portrait art as her appearance in Okeanos. I've been waiting for it ever since then. I always wish she gets a summer swimsuit version too, but Lasagna is never kind to me.

Anyways, got the new assassin with the Quartz I've been getting catching up on the story, and like 4 copies of the 4*. I didn't even do that many pulls, but I think my account is coded for CN male servants for some reason. I always get disproportionate numbers of them compared to my average. Digging in to the new event tonight before bed.

Looks like JP is getting Kazuradrop, which means the only one of the Sakura Five that isn't playable now is my favorite one, Violet.

How exactly was this last Halloween event a Halloween event, besides a couple of background decorations?
I just finished the story myself and you weren't kidding. I kept wondering "when does the tie-in with Halloween start?" It was barely even involving Liz. Nine-Tailed didn't have any of her characteristics and was essentially a totally new character. Heavily carried by Huyan Zhuo's weird eccentricities, really. Terrible event overall. Can't believe I did all that story progress just for this.

They should feel ashamed having that follow up the CinderElly event, arguably one of my favorite in the history of the game.

Localizers taking liberties again making Fergis bi too. Don't think I didn't see you, localizers...

Damn I just read the news that I need to have LB6 clear to play the new event story, but luckily they made you still able to grind out the lotto or whatever even if you haven't cleared it. Wonder if the event story is good/worth it? These fucking requirements are absolutely stupid. Just let me click a box to accept "I don't care if I get spoiled".

Also realized that Britomart is up next in the gacha. I was aiming to get her to NP3 but well, I dunno if that will be happening. I wish she was literally anything else than a AoE Quick Lancer. The only unit I've really hyper invested in so far is Bradamante which is like the exact same role. But, I like her design a lot so unfortunately I gotta roll for her + dupes. I haven't been very lucky this year so far, so here's hoping I get a little luck thrown my way this time.

I know LB6 is supposedly one of the best ones, but I also know it's long and I have limited playtime right now, so I don't think I wanna try to rush it. If the event story is shit like the recent Halloween one, I don't mind missing it anyways. Wish all events went into the Rare Prism shop for activation eventually. The system is already in place, but they are so fucking random about which events end up in there, and there's not very many.

They notified us last July/August about the event requirements, and I've been subtly reminding you periodically on this thread.

Make sure you grind the lotto at least. Great for embers and QP!

Well, got Britomart NP2 with my free quartz, not gonna buy a pack right now just for a shot at NP3. I'll see where I'm at when she reruns down the line. Also got NP4 and 5 of Barghest and like NP8 or 9 of Baobhan Sith. I was pretty lucky this time for servants, only got one copy of the 5* CE though. Oh well. I'm probably not going to have much time to grind lotto this time anyways. I've been teetering on whether or not I try that automated farming mobile app, but I don't like giving unfettered access to my screen like that to a random app...

I'm torn on the shota thing (despite being historically accurate), but the NP animation is 10/10. His 3rd ascension is currently hidden/locked, so I'll hold out and see what's up with it before judging too harshly.
