Favorite ending to a TV series?

I really loved the ending to Malcolm in the Middle

Even when the main character succeeds his life is still super rough which is the whole show in a nutshell

A lot of my favourites were already mentioned earlier (Person of Interest, Six Feet Under, Parks and Recreation) but other ones I really liked were:
30 Rock -a fun and charming way to resolve everyone's plotlines and to finally give Liz Lemon what she always wanted, which made it hilarious cause that's what she had been doing the entire show anyways.
Moral Orel - the greatest most underrated cartoon/stop motion animation series ever had a gut punch of a finale and managed to well up tears when I found out what happened to Orel at the end.
The Good Wife - One of the best examples of worldbuilding in a legal-based drama had a lot of the major plotlines resolve with Alicia ending up, in many ways, at the same place where she started but with a wealth of experience and knowledge, slowly becoming a woman she had always feared she would have become after her husband's scandal.

I really liked "See me, Feel me, Gnomey" for the original run of the Powerpuff Girls.

Im told it apparently never aired in the USA tho? That's weird.

I really liked the ending to The Leftovers.

yeah, I fucking loved this. couldn't imagine being pulled in so much again by something helmed by Lindelof after Lost, or that the two main characters would end up being two of my favourites in television. The emotion in that show was beautiful at times, and it ended really nicely.

Stargate SG1 - Mostly because it felt like just another episode and not a proper ending, despite knowing it was over.

ER - the show came full circle with Green's daughter starting there. And Carter asking her the same thing her father asked him at the end of the first episode.

Wonder Years - Bittersweet like the entire show, like life.

Fresh Prince - Honestly, I didn't really like the show but the ending was very satisfying.

Counts as Manga too, but for me Dragonball Z. Vegeta finally realised he'll never be as strong as Goku, but knows he's much smarter. So Vegeta comes up with the plan to kill Buu and Goku carries it out.
One has the brains and one has the brawn. Yin and Yang. A satisfying ending to a half decade rivalry and the show in general.

..then GT fucked it up,
..then Super fucked it up again.

Wonder Years was good, because
he didn't end up with the girl at the end.
You almost never do in real life

I loved Lost's ending as well.

The Wire is also great
I like how the kid who you think is gonna go down the bad road actually ends up ok, and the 'good' kid ends up being a junky. It's sad, but thats what makes it so great

Came to this thread to say this. The best show about poor people I can remember, which I really appreciated as a person who grew up poor as dirt.

The ending to The Office was just the best. Surprised it's only got a couple of mentions so far. Funny, touching, and incredibly satisfying.

The Larry Sanders Show ending was perfect
Another good call. Great ending to an underrated show.

Black Adder was done brilliantly.

If you take each series as a separate show the all had really good endings. But Blackadder Goes Forth is clearly the best.

Is currently staging a hunger strike outside Gearbox HQ while trying to hate them to death
The Office (both versions), Eastbound and Down and Battlestar Galactica were among my favourites.

Blackadder is far and away the best though.

Blackadder had loads of great finales. They did another one with the back and forth special that I really liked.

Star trek tng had a great one, ending as it began with q.

Sg1 I wasn't a huge fan of as I always thought the series should have ended with Threads.

Boardwalk Empire

where Jimmy's son kills Nucky

Probably by far the most satisfying ending to a tv series for me

Whats yours?

But Boardwalk Empire's last season is such a wasted opportunity for the rest. Seasons 1-4 was God Tier, the last season and weird timeskip felt very rushed and underwhelming.

Parks and Recreation wrapped up things in a way that confirmed that every character was going to end up
just fine. Have no inclination to have the show continue, I'm completely satisfied - if that isn't a good ending, I don't know what is.

I like Boardwalk Empires ending on paper and I even like how it was filmed. Needed more time to develop though.

Supernatural Season 5 was the ending for me.

Cowboy Bebop

Samurai Champloo

Breaking Bad

The wire finale was tainted by the Mcnulty arc during the last season imo.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Scrubs and Star Trek TNG have extremely fitting endings

I actually think this is an awful and completely unsatisfying ending. It's even more unsatisfying if you know about what happened on set after they finished.

Yikes, what happened on the set of Voyager? I actually liked that show, as uneven as it was in quality.

TNG is the only Star Trek finale I haven't seen yet. My favorite ending is still Battlestar Galactica. Excellent ending to an incredible show. Still my #1 show.

After they filmed the final bridge scene where Voyager gets home, it was apparently simply the director going "cut" and them immediately starting to disassemble and moth ball the set. No celebration on wrapping the series or anything like that. Kate Mulgrew said it was basically a super depressing moment (paraphrasing).

Old school : MASH, Cheers
The rest: Breaking Bad, Mr Robot, Fresh Prince, Scrubs, Friday Night Lights...

Shows that should’ve had great endings but they f’ed it up: The X-Files, Family Matters, Roseanne, Game of Thrones, Dexter,

Fargo Season 3 final scene.

If you don’t know, Fargo is anthology style, so each season is its own contained story. I still think about the end of season 3 all the time. It’s an ambiguous ending, which in the wrong hands could have felt like cheap lazy middle-finger to the audience, but they give you just enough cryptic information to study and draw your own conclusions from. The fan analysis and arguments are a great read.
It is a brilliant and ballsy ending to a show that is consistently brilliant and ballsy.
