She went from standing alongside and sending a message of empowerment to people who were and/or felt different to nixing what was an opportunist gimmick in exchange for sequin dresses to croon next to Bennett and to show up to Oscars, Golden Globes...whatever.
She is a phony. No other way to look at it. She'll wear whatever hat she needs to advance whatever agenda she is on.
Having been a fan for as long as I have, I can tell you that she's never changed her message. She has supported LGBT rights since the beginning of her career and still does. She's supported mental health charities her whole career. She has alluded to having had unfortunate sexual experiences at the start of her career in interviews over the years. That unfortunate experience turned out to be rape and she wrote a song about it with Diane Warren, which got her nominated for an Oscar. THAT is why she was there this year. She made a Jazz record with Tony because that's the kind of music she originally studied and they have been friends for a few years. He asked her to make the album, not the other way around, mind you.
I urge you to watch this interview. It shows a totally different side of her that you might not have seen yet.
I find it hard to hear people talk about her like this, because even though it might sound corny af, she has helped a lot of people through her music. Born This Way showed a lot of young people that it is okay to be different and that it is okay to chase after your dreams. And some of us still couldn't pull through. I honestly don't think I'd be in as happy of a place as I am now without that record.
