Lol. Actually I am based in Asia and I can say with reasonable authority that the Chinese are laughing as the US system is so polarised, so, dominated by media optics, and so screwed up that you have to choose between a corrupt lifelong insider and an incompetent halfwit. And that the public is so manipulated that each side willingly overlook their candidates deficiencies.

It's got to the position where other nations don't need to bad mouth the US to justify their positions. You guys do it for them.

Talk about rapid decline of empire.

you don't know what the fuck you're talking about and you're false sense of superiority is pathetic, and especially so coming from a chinese perspective as if your politics aren't all kinds of fucked

Had someone come into my shop saying Hillary is done. Internal loling ensued.

Hopefully this blows up in Comey's face. It was irresponsible for him to be so vague so close to the election with no real concrete evidence of anything bad.

I'm pretty sure media manipulation is... kind of a thing in China. lol

Ahh yes, the Chinese government, famously bereft of lifelong insiders and corruption.

I'll just post this, and leave things there in regards to this poster. Nothing much else to say really:

Idk tho.. Your government isn't without it's flaws tbh.

Man, what is up with foreigners working in Asia and their superiority complexes? I see it all the time. Spend a month in China and they've got the whole world figured out and are suddenly above it all.

Hillary isnt remotely corrupt, is actually indisputably one if the most honest candidates to run for office (you can fact check this if you like) and is the most qualified candidate ever to run for office. She spent her life fighting for the disenfranchised, was successful at whatever she has tried and is a almost supernaturally hard worker.

You got played by your media, are comically ignorant of the facts and think we give a fuck what the CHINESE think of our government. The sheer absurdity of that statement is astounding.

Stay the fuck out of shit you know nothing about, you are embarrassing yourself. Gross.

democrats should start a campaign against comey and make this a partisan issue. this being a republican fbi director interfering with an election sounds better than this just being about hillary and emails.

To all the replies above, I'm not taking any particular position, but I just worry about the lack of criticality. The fact that my post, which is pretty anodyne, can elicit such emotional responses really points to some deep issues.

I think the US is getting increasingly polarised and both the liberals and the right are living in echo chambers which enable a level of self deception.

If even some of the clever guys on liberal GAF can't get it, then the chances for mutual understanding and healing in the US are fucked.

Yep, its so tragic that you wonder why wealthy Chinese families are buying property all over the west coast. Couldn't have anything to do Xi's corruption squads jailing all of his rivals could it? I'm sure the Chinese media reports on that fairly since they don't have to worry about optics.

No, I didn't think they gave an amazing performance. My point was that Trump didn't give an amazing performance either. Probably a worse one technically.

I doubt it. I'm sure a coach would've have given him high marks on persuasion, approach, and a toss-up on substance vs. the others in the GOP.

Hillary is a different story because she doesn't lie as much as your generic GOP candidate and does her homework often on the facts of an issue. Trump's tactics and rhetorical style had to have been more measured and substantive vs. a Hillary or Bernie. The level of hyperbole, lies and interruptions were too frequent in a one-on-one. I'm confident even pushovers like an O'malley or Chafee would've won.

Here is an unsolicited tip for message board discussion. You need to take a position when you are critical of something because when you don't the implied position can come off as "I know more than you do".

If you don't want people to make up your position for you, you need to state it yourself. Once you do that, then we can have a conversation based on positions and facts. Without that, you aren't going to get anywhere. People are just going to lob contempt back and forth until a mod comes in and stops it.

I was about to post myself but this pretty much sums it up.

Beyond embarrassed by the thought that von might be an actual adult who took the time to vomit up that post.

I've lived in China for seven years. China is laughing at the U.S. ? Are you sure about that? Hillary Clinton seems to be relatively admired as a strong female candidate while people feel that Trump is a bully to China because he's always talking so much shit about China (maybe rightfully so, but you know that Chinese get defensive easily.) Every other family that has SOME money is trying to send their kid to the U.S. , so IDK where you get this.

China has one party rule, in the midst of a political purge (for "corruption"), just named their lifelong insider president as "core" ruler (dictator).

America is an actual democracy where we get to choose our government. Our institutions are not beholden to a "core ruler" (god emperor), we have the right to criticize our government, we have bitter, contested elections. It's messy because it is a democracy, and that messiness also make America antifragile. China can laugh if their system of government lasts longer than America's.

Your post wasnt anodyne at all, and trying to play coy about it makes you look even worse.

You thought you could come in here saying you dont give a flying fuck about this while simultaneously saying all our choices are terrible and playing up the both sides cha-cha was gonna be allowed to stand. You thought you could stand on your high horse, say China and the world are ridiculing us, and "talk about the decline of the Republic" or whatever trash heap TRIPE you called commentary and you werent gonna get called on it.

Sorry, dont work that way. You know jack and shit about our elections, demonstrably are profoundly ignorant about our candidates - especially Hillary - and then dare say WE are living in an echo chamber and cant view things critically. You are the worst type of ignorant poster. Willfully so.

I think we can all have a laugh at this "intellectual" know it all and his superior Chinese government without going absolutely ballistic on him. I mean damn. This dude is just not worth getting this angry over.

I agree he's not worth anger or any real effort. He came in with generalizing with libgaf and went straight to "it's sad you believe the media's lies". I mean he's no better than a Trump supporter when it comes down to it, he'd fit right in.

This thread has delivered in more ways than one, really bringing some early salt from people that thought they finally "had her".

This. Yes it would be dirty politics but Fuck taking the high road. No offense to Michelle Obama but when they go low we go scorched earth.

It's your high-minded, immature smugness that's eliciting "such emotional responses"

The Democrats taking the high road has just caused Republicans to see it as a weakness and use it against us. I can't believe people can't see it. They will not repay the favor, I'm tired of the party limiting itself for the sake of "bipartisanship" that is never returned in kind. Especially since the WH is the only thing we have, and might have while they hold the rest of the cards.

It's a lot better to go after Comey after the election. Voice your complaints now, but wait until it's less of a political issue before you crucify him. The real target is Trump, and any distraction away from that is more likely to lead to confusion than to produce solid results.

For all of America's faults, I can at least appreciate that I don't have to live in a smog densed city that would shave away my life crazy.

I wasn't going to revert, but some of the posters are acting like Caliban raging at their own reflection.

When even liberals are raging with emotion when they are called out, and attacking someone for daring to have a different opinion, and attacking the messenger rather than engaging with the debate, then at what stage does the average liberal differ from the alt right or the tea party.

Is it really the case that if you peel away the politics you get an emotive nationalist underneath?

Like I originally said, it's sociological in this thread.

It's only 9 days away if you don't count today. I mean, there isn't really enough time even if they wanted to. Of course it will wait until after the election.

Yep - tie comey to chaffetz and isolate them.

Let them burn.

I think it's clear you don't actually understand the objections to Comey's letter. It's not a partisan complaint.

To be fair, that poster is getting played by our media's need for a horse race and equivalency also.

Please stop pretending you were looking for a discussion when you opened with insults, calling us kids, you are not above it all nor are you emotionally free of it.

I have been reading the responses to the US debate for some time but always kept my own counsel. However, now it's getting silly. It is like an echo chamber here. It would make a fantastic sociological experiment.

Basically, the loudest kids in the room are dominating the discussion and pleading the superiority of their own position based soley on a manufactured media position that is fed to them and aided by this echo chamber (and others) that constantly reaffirms their views and makes them cosy and self validated.

It gets to the position where a presidential candidate has flaunted the law, acted with disregard to the gravity of their position, has acted negligently at best and in bad faith, if not knowingly breaching the law and the standards required of high office, and the crowd on here defend such actions as smears.

Basically, I don't give a flying shit either way. You yanks are fucked whoever gets in. But I do get concerned where people are outsourcing their intellect and critical thought to the media, are living in an echo chamber, and can't understand why their body politic is so polarised because they don't realise they are part of the problem.

Clinton is the most heavily attacked politician in US politics, so I don't think that she has any illusions about bipartisanship and taking the high road. She's a skillful politician so I don't have any doubts that she's going to find a way to stick it to the Republicans. And really they're so dysfunctional anyways that it's not going to need a lot of prodding from Clinton for them to start hurting themselves.

If you're going to lob grenades about American Democracy from the perspective of a one-party, autocratic Chinese system, best be ready to stand and take the fucking heat like a champ. I'm disappointed.

You call us yanks. You had no intention but to shit on our country for no reason but to get a rise from other people. Don't be a weasel when people call you out.

I don't think I would personally brag about Chinese government while Xi Jinping is trying to seize more dictatorial power.

The Party is splintered enough that there have been a shit-ton of leaks from Chinese government officials talking to the NYT about how worried they are about Xi's recent moves.
