you can't put a price on sparks
this just tells me she's a coward on top of the fact of being an awful person.

i'm sure she agreed with this -- just didn't want her name attached to it. same for the GOP on so many of Trump's other policies.

DeVos would have gained a lot of respect if she stood up for her own damn opinion.

Another fucking spineless politician.

Except she's not even a politician, right? None of them are. Our government is currently being run by corporate billionaire opportunists.

And reading between the lines here, it looks like Trump won't have the feds involved with any LGBT rights issues, Trump has this strong belief that LGBT rights are for the states to decide, NOT the federal government: https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-pres...iefing-press-secretary-sean-spicer-2212017-13

Q Sean, the National Center for Transgender Equality, citing reliable sources, says the Trump administration today will rescind Obama-era guidance requiring schools to allow transgender kids to use the restroom consistent with their gender identity. Will the Trump administration rescind that guidance?

MR. SPICER: Right now that’s an issue that the Department of Justice and the Department of Education are addressing. I would tell you that -- and I think that there will be further guidance coming from DOJ in particular with respect to not just the executive order, but also the case that’s in front of the Supreme Court.

The President has maintained for a long time that this is a states' rights issue and not one for the federal government. So while there will be further guidance coming out on this, I think that all you have to do is look at what the President’s view has been for a long time -- that this is not something that the federal government should be involved in; this is a states' rights issue.

I'm seriously hoping to see massive, large-scale protests that are ongoing as a result of this.

Mr. Sessions, who strongly opposes expanding gay, lesbian and transgender rights, fought Ms. DeVos on the issue and pressed her to relent because he could not go forward without her consent. The order must come from the Justice and Education Departments.

Mr. Trump sided with his attorney general, these Republicans said. And Ms. DeVos, faced with the choice of resigning or defying the president, has agreed to go along. The Justice Department declined to comment on Wednesday.

Don't get your hopes up. We're not gonna see a protest like the women's march again any time soon.

It's actually a pretty clever PR move from the Trump administration. DeVos gets look a bit more "sane", while Sessions gets to appease the alt-right crowd. This seems like an issue Trump really doesn't care about, so he probably settled it with a coin toss or something. In the end they can say that they can set their differences aside to make America yadda, yadda, yadda.

This is literally the worst possible outcome. America goes a step backwards again, and for the Trump administration the issue is dealt with, no more "infighting" and chance for the Trumpancy to implode (on this issue).

Ugh, what's with some of you assuming everything is a well planned, well crafted PR move/stunt? It's never just as it's presented, it's always some 4D chess bullshit

And this is the real problem with the Devos pick, not just that she is unqualified (she is), but that she is unwilling to stand up to those that would challenge her principles.

Which is probably what the Trump administration was counting on. They wanted toadies, not disciplined workers.

Now we know who the bigger evil between Sessions and DeVos is, not that it really was in doubt.

I suspect this is accurate.

Even though Devos has a history of supporting anti-lgbt groups

The number one rule in doing well in the Trump admin is to kiss ass and this is a topic where she would be on the wrong side among conservatives. For her to try and pick this fight says her stance on the matter is a bit more complex and possibly based on a misguided belief while Sessions gave no thought to the matter whatsoever.

That said I bet if we understood her full stance on LGBT people her view would still be terrible.

"Fight Erupts in Trump Administration Over Transgender Students’ Rights" is one way to spin an article titled "Trump Rescinds Rules on Bathrooms for Transgender Students."

Especially since it wasn't true

Where's the evidence of that? The previous story was that DeVos disagreed but then was cajoled into line. Here she is, being in line.

Doesn't recommend her either way, of course. Either you're right and she was a villain all along or the reports of her disagreement were right and she's a perfect coward who put up a token defense but didn't really care about.

Sessions is a total piece of shit, I mean really one of the most disgusting beings on the planet right now (he doesn't deserve to be called human)
