Actually best suite I've been to was the one Rentahamster and the Hawaii crew had at Evo. like 5-6 Ultra setups, snacks, drinks, and all that. Reiketsu scarfed down pizza so fast, lol.

That was the suite where I taught you how to play SF4, right? :p

You play that match too well. I did better in my casual play with Xian and Nemo than I did against you, lol.

I kinda wish I had played more USF4 prior to Evo though. I should have done better in my pool this year. but I was mostly interested in playing Persona.

Just got done with a short SFIV session. Feeling amazing about my progress. I changed mains to a more technical character and in a matter of days I'm able to hang with guys who used to give me trouble and have 2-3k points accrued. For the record, I only have 500. Switching to Chun Li was a great decision for my progress. It has made me a player more aware of my spacing, it has made me more aggressive and confident as an offensive player, while also being a bit more defensive.

Watching a lot of pro Chun fights have helped a lot. One thing I've got down is to protect my neck while I charge. While I'm charging and we are in sort of neutral I will bait a tempted opponent into coming into my space, and when they move forward I throw an cr mk and poke them. Even if they don't move they have to do SOMETHING. So I'll whiff but I'm going to throw out an fb. I throw out a jab just in case, then use the fb as a shield, get in their space, and throw them.

I love getting them in the corner and doing the above tactic.

I love playing Chun so much. I can apply natural mind games as I play.

I'm a lot more comfortable with her than I was with Poison. When I first started USF4 in July I had no inkling of how to play a character like Chun Li. Somehow, some way, charge characters - something that confused me my entire life playing SF, made sense last week. In Gooteck's e-book he says character specialists - people who stick to one character - lack range and have holes in their game. He's right. I don't regret spending over 100 hours with Poison despite switching over. She was what sparked this interest in taking SF seriously to begin with after all. She also gave me fundamental that I think naturally bled into my Chun.

After getting the fundamentals, it's time to work on combos. One combo I'm trying to do is a bnb: cr lk, cr lp, cr lk xx kicks. Problem is that I can't instantly transition to the kicks. I am rapidly hitting kick button and a regular kick just comes out. I'm on pad so I'm not sure what to do. Maybe this is where piano'ing comes in.

Also, I'm inspired by the Chun player Vivi. He has one corner combo string that's lk xx kicks, lk xx kicks, lk xx kicks. It's amazing and I NEED TO LEARN IT.

Basically what I'm saying is no fights the rest of this week. Training mode only until those combos are mastered.

I have to say that gaining respect feels so good. "Wow, you're getting better" always feels like it validates all that time researching moves, training in the lab, getting my execution right, trying to get out of my comfort zone by playing non-fb characters, watching pro matches and taking notes, replaying MY matches and taking notes.

It feels all worth it. This game is worth it.

Edit: sorry for the long ass posts. I just really like to write and jot down my thoughts on any given subject at the time...I realize it must be repetitive and annoying.

I enjoy reading them. It reminds me of why I like fighting games in the first place: the aspect of improving and hanging out with peeps who also want to improve :3

4 persona setups, 6 GGXrd setups, 3 blazblue setups, several random game setups. Stream setup with casters and a woshige versus ogawa rematch. Daisuke Ishiwatari showed up and did an interview and played some matches. John Hardin from Atlus was also there

Probably. I went through a good amount of people. I eventually got up to let the Kanjis play after I got my rematch :p
i didnt play at the rotation screen you were probably bodying people on, it was the left screen by the door, I remember grabbing someone so I could get some matches in before I had to bail for my late dinner reservations

Nah, I played you then. We started the rotation on that screen and that's the one I sat on for awhile. I got bopped by Jose so I just set up on there for a bit lol

ha, sounds right then. I mightve been the first you played there.

I came back after dinner and played there more until Jose took his setup away, then we got kicked out

Yeah I was kicked out before then orz

Anyways GGs! I really like that game lol I guess I played more GAF people in anime than I remember.

I've spent a few hours trying to learn Sin and I'm having an issue with getting the highest ground bounce after cancelling his Hawk Baker - > Bull Bash

Sometimes I get the max height then can combo properly afterwards and sometimes the character barely bounces and I drop the combo. I'm not sure if it's that I have to cancel the Hawk Baker into Bull Bash immediately/I'm doing it too slow. Feels kinda inconsistent.

Half of those random game setups (GGAC+R, F/UC, etc.) were mine. :x but I spent my nights in the anime suite at Evo playing either Melty, Aquapazza or F/UC so we I don't think we ran into each other.

Thankfully, through all of the years I've been at tournaments the only time Ice had anything of significance stolen was a Nintendo DS. Personally, I wish consoles had Kenningston lock support, as that would really securing the consoles (but I guess I'm paranoid enough to use them on PCs and monitors I bring). Wouldn't help with games and sticks but you can only do so much.

Still can't believe we've never met. Been talking to you on the webs for like 11 years. Been going to EVO forever. Huy was out there last year...could've been #skilldoa reunion.

Dunno how well the adhesive works but you could try one of these

At worst the security theatre would keep away the common would-be thieves.

Are you getting the Critical Hit with Hawk Baker? You have to be really close, point blank. The opponent should like flash red when you get it right.

Here https://youtu.be/2TMeVzQLRGE?t=6m25s you can see how the two different version hit at that point in time in the video.

In BB, is using the same move in a combo disadvantageous? A few times the game has said "Same Move Combo", or something like that, while I'm messing with loops. Does it destroy the proration?

Is there a reason to have more than one bnb in the game? I read a post about someone trying to avoid having to use the same combo more than once in a match, but I don't know if there was a reason beyond personal preference.

if you over 30, you basically dead

RIP me.

Some moves when repeated will cause Same Move Proration. The opponent will flash blue. If this happens it basically murders your combo so try to avoid it.

A big key part of BB is being able to convert off really odd hits and situations and turn into anything really. you'll need different versions of your BnB due to how you confirm. If you slam a bunch of jabs in there or confirm too weak, then you need a different way to do your combo. If you get a weird air hit or spaced CH or something, you may need a new route. You may need a character specific route. You may need to switch up your BnB in order to get different oki.

Lots of reasons to have really open combo skills. Really good players freestyle sometimes off super awkward ass hits and they turn it into awesome things. Having combo pieces and figuring out how to string them together and make them work with proration is a very valuable skill.
