I missed this last week, but Bonnie Gordon, Rainbow Mika's English-language voice actress appeared on the Isometric podcast. She seems really cool; into tabletop gaming and favorite VG is Gitaroo Man, lol. She discusses her feelings about the SF5 ass slap controversy as well (sorry I don't have the timestamps).
Link here: https://www.relay.fm/isometric/89
Girl have an amazing voice, Mika conversation start at 8:50.
She didn't record the butt slap. :(

If Mr. Wizard wants to maximize the numbers, then he'll do both Smashes.

We might see a lot more Japanese players only in SF4 if it does appear though.

hmm, looking at the list of games I'd be willing to play...Evo looks unlikely for me. I do really want to goto vegas again, but without 2 games I have other vacations I can take.

This is why I think USF4 will stick around for one more year. The likelihood of Smash 4 & Melee continuing to coexist is high, so keeping USF4 may be just a means to show that there isn't any favoritism.

How much do you really think they worry when it comes to being accused of favoritism?

EVO is the house that Capcom built. It's not favoritism, it's the legacy of the tournament.

That's what I'm wondering. As far as last-minute predictions go, I'm gonna play it safe with...
  • Street Fighter V
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Killer Instinct
  • Tekken 7

I don't see Tekken 7 happening since the game doesn't even have a solid release date and I don't think they're going to lug arcade cabinets for a main tourney. At best it'll be a side event like last time. USFIV is a big "maybe" in my opinion since I'm not sure how Capcom swings in that regard; most likely a side tournament as well but it might be possible. Sm4sh and Melee coexisting is under some really extraneous circumstances which I don't think is that comparable with Street Fighter.

What games are you currently playing? Out of interest.
Persona 4 ultimax, blazblue, GGXrd, UNIEL

UNIEL doesnt have a chance, ultimax did have better numbers than killer instinct last year, but is still unlikely. Blazblue CPE has never been to evo, but with CF out in arcades already its just not going to happen. evo hates having two anime games anyway. Last year was an anomaly.

Besides that DOA5 id like to play more, but it has no chance either. I've dropped MKX completely after they fucked over PC players. Other shit I play is old or side game kusoge like DBFCI, Nitro+, and soul calibur

i probably will get flak for this comment but i hope tekken 7 will not be part of the main evo lineup this year just because it's still not released on consoles yet. the evo illuminati should let other community-supported games shine instead and have tekken 7 as a side event.

I imagine there will be another Madcatz supported stream for games not on the main stage like last year, Tekken 7 may get streamed there instead of the main stage. I really hope Madcatz does a stream for the perennial side tournaments, ti was really god last year

What's going on this week?

Anime discussions, waifu arguments, and Lord Aris streaming Dank Souls.

I think the folks that want SFIV at Evo this year are going to be disappointed. Most of the talent will only enter it for amusement, if at all. The play quality will suffer a serious drop, just like Marvel has. The best SFIV play you'll ever see has already come and gone unless SFV bombs.

Thanks man that's the exact kinda stuff I wanna hear. Gonna work hard on tech hitting and gc'ing.
I also forgot to mention Fish's sonar that you were using grounded a lot. It's more of an anti air because it can stun opponents temporarily in the air and the ES version has amazing range. Fish blockstrings also consist more of using his DF (that river blockstring, right?) that looks sort of like a grounded version of Jedah's air DF pressure. People use it more often than I'd expect.
When I searched my quotes, I thought this was a video from that 2013(14?) GAF UMVC3 tourney I participated in. What I got was far better. Thanks!
Missed this last night. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Personally I'm looking forward to the day I can start uploading footage of me actually holding my own in the games I'm good at lol.

You make it sound hostile. There are only two things GAF can discuss without tearing itself apart and those are porn and waifus. Everything else is a disaster. Guns, anime, games, tipping and even democratic primaries... we can't help ourselves.

Not necessarily. If SFV doesn't kick off in Japan like I kinda expect it to I could see a lot of Japanese players traveling only for SF4.. which would give myself more entertainment tbh.

Does Next Level have a weekly stream planned for SFV? Im going to miss coming home wednesdays after work and not watching Spookys stream.

Did this change in the last few months? How the heck is that even being enforced? I've been to Vegas at least once a year for nearly a decade and I've never had to pay for parking.
So MGM and Caesars Entertainment Palace own almost all the hotels on the Vegas strip between them. MGM said that they will charge $10 a night to park now in order to provide "security" and a "better parking experience". Caesar has not said anything, but the fact that they didn't immediately said no means to me that they will do it too.

EVO took place at Paris/Ballys which is a Caesars Entertainment owned property, so maybe this year they won't implement paid parking, but the years of free parking are over.

It wasn't meant to be hostile, I was just poking fun at our penchant for anime discussion.

What's this about Next Level closing, is it moving to a new locations or dissolving completely?

IMO, people will lose interest just because it isn't the new thing. If Japan falls off, it'll fall off of Street Fighter altogether. Even so, the real top players like Tokido and Daigo are going to buy SFV. You'll only have second-rate players left.

Tekken was a main game last year. They also didn't bring cabinets, just arcade MBs with USB ports for sticks.

Not going to EVO so I couldn't give a fuck less what games are there but for a throwaway prediction: SF4, SF5, KI, MKX, GGXrd, Sm4sh, T7, UMVC3

If it's still going strong in the arcades, who says they'll fall off? Tokido/Daigo went to SFIV and look at how many players were at the Cooperation Cup for 3s.

SF4's still bigger than half the games that will be at Evo. The level of play dropping isn't a big deal since it's so much more developed than most games after 7 years of constant tournaments, online play, and carried over knowledge from older games. The way I see it, B tier SF4 is still easily more developed/worth watching than something like Marvel at its prime. There's a lot of leeway there.

That being said I won't mind if it doesn't come back as long as they don't put fucking Marvel in the second-last time-slot or some shit.

I hope marvel comes back for the second to last slot in place of sf4, unless justin is moving to smash and chris g dropped it for league again

I'm predicting
SFV
UMvC3 (though probably in an earlier timeslot)
GG XRD
MKX
KI
T7
Sm4sh
Melee

Would love to see other stuff like KoF, Blazblue, and Ultimax in place of Marvel and the smash games, but those bring in the bigger numbers.

Catherine AnimEVO gonna be lit tho.

The number of people who enter USF4 shouldn't matter to Evo. The number that should matter is the number of people who come to Evo BECAUSE USF4 is there. That number will probably be very small, because SFV will already be at Evo, and I'd wager 99% of people entering USF4 also will enter SFV.

Meanwhile, Smash Wii U and Melee each had almost 2000 people last Evo, and the overlap between the two games was only like 500 people. To include USF4 at the expense of one of the Smash games would be foolish on Evo's part.

That said, I think USF4 and both Smash games will be there at Evo and they'll just deal with 9 games again.

It's already a given that both Smash games will be in. Keeping USF4 or not will be a matter of comparing it to other games. I vastly prefer SF4 to all other games (outside of 5) but I wouldn't mind trimming it out of the itinerary with Marvel to keep the game list small and make watching SF5 on time a viable plan. All I care about is being able to watch SF like last year. It's not even a guarantee given Evo's track record.

it's like everyone forgets how depressing the 3s tournament at EVO 2009 was

have a SF4 side tournament or salty suite, it actually will end up more hype and positive than having it as an official game.

all i know is there will be blowups, no matter what. drama is pretty much guaranteed over whether USF4 gets in or not (and also whether both Smash games get in or not).

How bad was it in comparison to other games? Don't forget that EVO has a lot more attendance now, both from the US and outside of it.

Justin Wong won it, so you have a point of comparison for how dead that game was

. Nobody remembers because everyone was focused on the actual game that mattered that weekend, even though the difference between the level of play in vanilla SF4 and super-mature 3s is massive.

People just overestimate the Capcom community's attachment to "obsolete" games, especially if they haven't been through a new numbered SF release. A lot of people "like" SF4, but most of them like the amount of competition and the level of interest in the game, not necessarily the game itself (as anime/VF/DOA people repeatedly point out).

Japan was pretty salty there were two Smash titles last year. If EVO wants to appeal to a more worldwide demographic then Melee must be dumped (seeing as how Smash games are vastly American entrees).

LK Tatsu - Juggle mechanics changed (Looks like it might be able to juggle after now?) - ex DP after LK Tatsu back?

Overall it seems like they're still tinkering with how much damage/stun regular throws should do. They've buffed everyone's fwd or back throw to 200 Stun.
