Holy shit, SFV didn't even chart and Pokken outsold it. Lmao I don't wish ill will on the game because I love it so much but goddamn Capcom, you fucked up. RIP Street Fighter.

So much for that horizontal growth.

I'm surprised MvC isn't on there. Pretty sure that game is exponentially a better seller than any Lost Planet.

I mean Pokken makes sense considering it came out in March and that it has the Pokemon legacy behind it which is probably way more popular overall than Street Fighter.

The more pressing stat isn't that Pokken outsold SF. Pokken was a new game so it was expected. The more pressing information gleaned from the sales data is that the sequel to Street Fighter IV did not chart in the top 10 on its second month. Ideally, it should be top 5 or top 10. It didn't even chart.

Yeah that is somewhat alarming, but it's clear that all the negative reviews about the lack of single player content scared away the casuals and people that like SF here and there but would rather play something like The Division. So anybody playing the game already had it.

I'm not sure SFV can be saved at this point if when Capcom finally fixes it, reviews don't rescind previous statements and criticism through a review of the latest, more complete version. SFV at EVO has the most registrants ever but I'm sure all of them already have SFV. I'm not sure how much more in terms of sales EVO can really do. I'm really worried about the games future.

Honestly I think keeping SF4 alive for so long really killed the appeal of a newer street fighter game. I know it's a trend with SF, but I think overtime the super ultra fad for street fighter has worn consumers on the appeal of a fresh street fighter title (especially when barebones content makes people think super edition will have more). I personally didn't feel like "wow a new SF game is coming out," because beyond gameplay changes SFV didn't really come with much more content to be excited for (especially when it comes with less content at launch than SF4 had). It will grow more over time, but that 60 dollar price tag for barebones content did not really excite a lot of people outside the core FGC...

That wasn't even a possibility.

I mean look at the NPD charts, there are like 7 games that popped up in both of them. Most of those are actually strong popular franchises, so it's almost a given that they would chart higher than SFV. But there were just too many new games out in March I guess that it had to be bumped out of the top 10.

Edit: Call of Duty almost dropped out of the charts, it went from 2nd to 9th. Far Cry went from 1st place to 2nd and GTA went from 3rd to 4th. So yeah your game would either have to be as popular as GTA or Call of Duty, or be the latest big marketing push from Ubisoft to chart in a 2nd month like that.

Potentially more than Street Fighter. With their financial status I doubt they'll bank on fighters from here out at all. I'd fully expect just top franchise episodics and monster hunter to be honest. They still don't even own a controlling share of their own company's stocks meaning they are still technically for sale if someone wanted to just buy em out. At this point I wonder if folks are just waiting for them to capsize or approach with merger offers in order to gain better pricing and leverage with them rather than just body harvest their IP's.

I sometimes think about what it'd mean for the ever increasingly port filled industry if Capcom ended up exclusive to any console. Especially Nintendo given how many capcom IP's fill the gaps in their current circles of gamers. If anyone ever makes a move for capcom and they become exclusive to any system it'll be a game changer no matter who takes their IP's. Thats a LOT of big name franchises to remaster, reboot, or rerelease.

We'll have a new named version and a re-release after Capcom Cup, book it

that won't sell over a million either

The current market just requires some rethinking on how to release a fighting game. MK came loaded with content at release because they could afford to.

If that's not financially viable I think developers are going to have to look at more F2P models like KI started with.

Capcom screwed up when they released $20.00 worth of content for $59.99 and focused on a niche market (FGC.)

A big publisher flush with cash can do a fighting game, but they would have to sink a lot of money into it first before seeing returns. It would have to be bigger and different than what Capcom can manage. The real problem is that nobody that big actually has any staff that has experience with making fighting games.

Sony was supposed to be the money though.

Actually, Tekken 7 and Namco is that game, but with the way the priority with the arcades, it means most of the world haven't seen how polished a product Tekken 7 already is and will be with FR is out.

Cos RT is amazing. Probably they wanted their hand in a fighter and RT was PC centric.
Just glad the big bucks is behind that game now

Even years ago, before the prominence of FTP, I couldn't understand why Capcom wasn't utilizing the rise of PSN and XBLA more. Yeah, re-releases are great and all, but why not take your VS engine, i.e., and get a small creative team(s) together and make a low-budget (or a few low budget) FG with 6-8 characters and release it digitally for 15-20 dollars with a focus on future DLC?

To me, the fact that FGs needed to be smaller ventures to be profitable was so obvious years ago I just don't get how Capcom didn't see it.

Tekken 7 looks amazing, my only problem with the way it's been handled is how after thought the console release has been.

Is SFv the most hated game by casuals but they can't stop talking about it? Also why does sfv keep its tournament interest up so high both viewers/entrance if its a barebones money grabbing maneuver by capcom.... I wonder....

It's been like this for ages, and it sucks.

Because of that patented Capcom gameplay.

Matchmaking is supposed to give you equal level players. Don't pick on the weak.
Like me.

Next guy is a Super Silver, the guy beat me twice in two very close matches. It basically came down to a guessing game. Both games ended with the same scenario, he had almost no health while I had around 20-30%. First game I woke up DP and he blocked and punished for the win. 2nd game guessed he would bait again but he went for a meaty and got me. And I just lost to 1-2 to a Ultra Silver Cammy. Back down to 4700-something. The dream might be over tonight :(

Because that wouldn't get the big money that capcom would want.

They rather get no money than small money with any type of effort

Realistically speaking how hard would it be to stick with some of the capcom characters from MvC3 add some more and call it a day?
