I wish I could be excited for this. Not when they were putting rootkits into their fighting game a mere two months ago.

On a scale of 0 to Sanford, how big of a salt mine will it be if it didn't turn out true?

I give the salt rating a Mike Ross on CPT....which, I guess is right below Sanford(give or take).

People are thirsty as FUCK for a new Marvel game. If these rumors aren't true, then the salt will flow.

I honestly want it to be true. Like I said SFV needs it's Marvel counterpart. But I'm going to lean more towards no as other than word of mouth there is no evidence suggesting it being true.

Since when did you all start heralding Polygon as a bastion of journalism?
No one did such a thing. A gaming site is reporting on Marvel 4, we are discussing it. The legitimacy of the rumor is still up in the air but when has that stopped ANYONE from discussing rumors?

If someone posted a Half Life 3 article then you would have people going crazy over that too. This is NORMAL gaming forum activity. People go crazy over random patent filings.

The MVC3 news is the real interesting twist. What if a re-balanced MVC3 ends up more popular than 4?
It won't be more popular because the game is still very old and very hard to get into at this stage.

And a patch is still very, very mythical at this point. It's so mythical that even if they put it out, the pros would ignore it because it wrecks their teams and go back to the OG UMVC3.

Man just please if there is a port of Marvel 3 please come to PC thats all I ask. Bring Marvel 2 with it too. I really hope that it stays 3v3 for 4 but I doubt it.

They need a marvel live tonight talking about all this while its hot.
They have a Marvel Live scheduled right after Capcom Cup IIRC.

All the big Marvel heads have been hush hush on Twitter, just retweeting stuff and not really adding their own opinion/hype on it.

Looking back, out of all the new movesets in Marvel 3 that were not based off of any prior game or anything (ie marvel newcomers. Otherwise Dante would get this praise) I think that the best overall new character moveset design in terms of both balance and visuals had to be Dormammu.

  • All his normals looked like special moves. From energy sparks and slashes to explosions it just made the user feel cool. No real punchy kicky here. Just visual fun
  • Great command normals. Guy had a projectile that caused a dude to go into the air allowing for easy conversions off of about anything from anywhere. Plus he had a ground multihitting flame carpet that he could toss around to cut off stuff or extend with assists or use for setups or etc etc etc
  • Cuts off the screen with Black Holes and energy pillars. Whilst enjoying great backdashes
  • While having a fly he wasn't just a tried and true triangle dasher.
  • Had the mix and match "power of" charges to let you select out of a grab bag of specials only on deck if you've played footsies correctly enough to earn them
  • Homing guaranteed chip special that messes with incoming characters
  • multhit beam super
  • GRAB super.
  • Multiple GTFO tools. From energy splodes to normals that just AA really well.

He was a dude who just sort of had it all, but it was all setup in such a way that you still had to earn it out there. You couldn't be brainless. You had to know how to move and how to read opponents to properly wall them in. Dante had it all but he was also based off of his game so seeing someone like Dormammu come along with no prior design to draw from in gaming was pretty cool to witness. Definitely one of the coolest gimmick characters and most effective ones they ever came up with in this series. Great visuals, great tools, and cool strategies.

EDIT: shit. I almost forgot...Dorm also had a shitload of projectile nullify tools to aid his runaway style. Just such a cool design all over.

imo its modok but also he looks stupid as fuck so it depends on how much you like weird looking chars. dude is a brilliantly designed char in every single way though, especially given how ridiculous he is at even a conceptual level

also dark dimension is not a grab
