Fighting Games Weekly | April 14-20 | Some Permutation of "Daigo is Da Bess"

Ricky won AE in Civil War, RayRay won UMVC3. Debate ensued over majors as always.

PRRog got bodied in Topanga, only won one set and complained about his character. PRRog then vented by playing Nemo in a FT15 exhibition (UMVC3). Super close set, went to deuce and PRRog squeeked out the win. Nemo got salty over Vergil when he didn't snap the character in once over 30 games.

Daigo won Topanga (hence the title), Xiao Hai got 2nd only losing to PRRog, undefeated with Cammy though.

There was a PAX East tourney as well and a USF4 location test. Justin won that so it was a double Rufus/EG win over the weekend.

Some tournament in Norcal. Marn vs Apologyman FT7, Apologyman zipped his ass up easily.

ChrisG won AE and Marvel in a Latin American tournament.

thanks man

I have faith in Combo to give something else to Dhalsim before Ultra is ready:)

I'm labing with him a bit, to understand more the struggle, and dude, the recovery from the air teleport is BAD! I don't know how Art uses that to do mix ups, he's that godlike I suppose

Theory red focus combos:
Gouken
--jump hp (105), close mp (65), cr hp (.8*80=64) xx rush punch (.7*130=91) xx rfc (.5*127=63.75) crumple, close mp (.4*65=26), cr hp (.3*80=24), hp rush punch (.2*130=26) = 465
--jump hp (105), close mp (65), cr hp (.8*80=64) xx rush punch (.7*130=91) xx rfc (.5*127=63.75) crumple, u1 (.3*503=151) = 540

Palm sends the opponent flying so these combos wouldn't work.

I don't see how those changes are "significant" for Dee Jay - they are improvements, but that's it. Anyone that played him before won't have a drastic new playstyle to learn or put to use. I do appreciate the EX MGU improvements, but still.

And they still should have returned El Fuerte's U2 back to a 3 frame start-up from Super. SF4.

How many characters in your respective currently played games can you guys play at a proficient level?

I can play about 8-10 characters at a relatively high level in AE, I change my main every basically every day. Been playing Dudley and Juri a lot lately though.

I'm a character specialist in AE; Maybe 5 characters, tops, in Marvel 3.

i can "play" ken, ryu, sagat, akuma, ibuki, oni, eryu, makoto, freejay, guile. anyone that isn't charge or piano-reliant are characters i can do pretty "well" as.

I can play 80% of the Marvel cast proficiently just because I have gone through so many damn teams to find the right one. In every other game I only know the inputs for 2-4 characters.

Nobody.

I mostly play Juri and Oni, but have played a little bit of Abel and Dudley. I don't consider myself good enough at the game to be high level with anyone.

However, brush off the rust on my Juri and I could probably play well enough though.

I play just about every fighting game there is, so long as I have someone else to play with. I am proficient in none of them, but I have a lot of fun. Haven't touched Virtua Fighter yet though.

I only really focus on two characters at a time (Eileen and Aoi in Final Showdown, Noel and Platinum in BBCP), though to say I play those characters proficiently would be an understatement or flat out lie in some cases. I just know how to use those characters more than I do the rest of the cast.

Same here. Marvel permutations with Dante and Vergil (screw Trish), AE probably 5 (Yun, Yang, Seth, Ryu, Guy)?

edit:
Reminder: Daigo, Mago, Tokido, and Bonchan are holding a special Ultra Street Fighter 4 stream on April 16th (nico nico)

8:00 p.m. JST / 4 a.m. PST (April 15th) / 7 a.m. EST (April 15th).

I think the term "character specialist" doesn't really make any sense. Isn't everyone who has a main a character specialist? And don't the overwhelming majority of players have a main rather than play a large set of characters?

I feel like 'Character Specialist' is another way of saying 'this person is in my opinion the greatest player of x character'.

I wouldn't say it means they're the greatest or anything. A character specialist is someone who takes the game seriously enough to explore as much as they can about their character and actively tries to discover new tricks or solutions to bad matchups. Someone could main a character but not put in that dedication.

This is the usage I commonly see.

So MK Komplete Edition is on sale for 75% off over on GMG. Thinking about grabbing it, but did we ever hear what was going on with it's online?

So, would you call Justin Wong a character specialist? How about Ricky Ortiz? They both play Rufus, and they both play relatively differently, and are both top level players.
