Fighting Games Weekly | April 14-20 | Some Permutation of "Daigo is Da Bess"

So, would you call Justin Wong a character specialist? How about Ricky Ortiz? They both play Rufus, and they both play relatively differently, and are both top level players.

Yeah, they both absolutely are. They've spent years doing their best to get the character to their highest potential while having run numerous sets against such a wide array of matchups. I can't think of a single reason they wouldn't qualify as character specialists.

Years ago JWong experimented with counter-picking (e.g. Abel against Daigo) to little success, and has since stuck with a stable roster (Rufus, Storm/Wolverine/Gouki).

I suck at fighting games. I'll go to the kitchen.
Do you make sammiches, tho?
Sure I'll be down for some matches tomorrow just toss me a pm or what ever.
Speaking of which, lemme ask you a question. Now, I have GG but I've never really played it to the point of actually trying to learn it to any significant degree, so I just played the characters with an uppercut, fireball, and some kind of forward moving kick(although Sol's moves backwards first, and Ky's is actually a slide but you get the idea). As you know, I do like me some Bullet from BlazBlue and wanted to know if there were any characters that have a similar sort of moveset or strategy as she does.

Jam is the closest I can think of. Knock down into charge ups to make her moves stronger. Rush down character.

How many characters in your respective currently played games can you guys play at a proficient level?

I am a hardcore character specialist, I use my character in all matchups in tournaments and spend the vast majority of my time playing them. When I do play alts I spend no time practicing them and they're pretty bad.

My MK9 Mileena is alright. If I wanted to with the right bracket I probably could get top 8 at a major.

Don't start with the food talk folks.

Also, Pho vs Ramen is like an 8-2 match-up.

I'd say it's a 9-1 match up.

I really really REALLY hate this Nat-3 internet my college has. Holy shit, I can't connect to anyone in any fighting game barring ggpo (through a vpn) and it's absolutely killing me.

If you haven't had ramen from Japan, then you cannot comment on the pho vs ramen debate.

But I have, multiple times! :<
I still really prefer Pho.

There's two really great ramen places in Toronto that a good friend of mine (girl from Japan that used to run her own restaurant back there) has confirmed to me as being some of the best ramen she's had.

In other words, this information isn't entirely correct.

edit: you're also wrong about what a character specialist is.

ramen is like 7-3 for me.

My family makes pho and it was never on the same level as other noodle soups.

Wonton noodle soup and Ramen? SO GAWDLIKE. Ramen in Little Tokyo is godlike as well. I can see why pho is prefer over ramen in most places. Ramen from a low-mid tier place is just ass. Pho at a mid tier place is still solid. Ramen also has many different styles, so its common to not like one and then like another.

Shin Sen Gumi and Santouka are amazing

For me its

S tier: Wonton Noodle Soup, Ramen, Tom Yum Soup
A tier; Pho

Santouka's good stuff. Over on Sawtelle are some great places. I really liked Tatsu!

Tatsu is also a street fighter move, I'm keeping this discussion relevant to fighting games!

i dont know if i said this in here before

my favorite ramen in socal/la/san diego..

is like... nothing.

ramen in japan is at least 4-5 times better. real rap.

Just saw an online UMVC3 match of a viewiful joe player slowing down his whole opponents team, ALL three characters! Professor Beef would be soo proud man!

lol, it really does feel good to slow down more than one of their characters. It's even better when you call the tag, block high, and punish with Slow.

Slow's annoying because it lasts so long. They should switch the time of Slow and Ryu's power up hyper. Also, slow Lariat assist is hilarious.

Also I found out that the player who did it is going to Curleh Mustache south, he is known as TA Wero, from mexico, and said knows frutsy too, and his team he is using is Viewiful Joe/Rocket Raccoon/Morrigan

If you can do 5a 5b 2c 6d, you can play azrael. Spoliers:theres people who play the game seriously who still can't do that link.

Also I should play more slayer but damn if he isn't the weirdest character to play. I always feel like he's playing an up hill battle, but then he just goes nuts and throws shit out there.

corporate stooge Offcast here!

We did an interview with Chris Ceglia from IPLAYWINNER. If you don't know Chris, he's the behind the scenes guy who's been improve stream production for IPW, Team Sp00ky, and more. Pretty the only reason NCR 2013, both Curleh West Coasts, and Evo 2013 were as good as they were anywho. Link is here

• Dhalsim's damage output has increased slightly in USF4. He can get in and do damage, and players won't have to struggle so much to get a win.

I wanna know what change makes Combofiend thinks that. Ok, he has slightly more damage, but is it easier for him to get in? I don't think so

I felt bad laughing when I read this point, having read Art and David's takes on the Dhalsim changes.

He's Batman, dammit.

How many characters in your respective currently played games can you guys play at a proficient level?

I can play about 8-10 characters at a relatively high level in AE, I change my main every basically every day. Been playing Dudley and Juri a lot lately though.

In the only two games I'm actually decent at (decent, not quite good just yet. Still have a lot of areas/flaws I'm working on in both games), 1 character each (I'll admit that mainly stems from testing out all the characters, then settling with the one I like the most mainly). Mitsuru in P4A and Parasoul in Skullgirls. Of course I plan on trying out other characters once P4AU drops, and I'm very hype to get to play as Big Band at some point.

Games I'm not-too-good/suck at but I can use characters enough to reliably get out their specials/supers/whatever, that number would probably go up a few. Akuma (in 3S and AE) and Cammy (in AE), Banshee, Deathscythe Hell, and Ridden's Zaku (in Full Boost), Jotaro and DIO (capcom JoJo's), Sol (Guilty Gear), the list could go on lol. Part of this being the case is that I'll admit some of these games are a little hard for me, but for others it's simply that I don't invest enough time into them (Or in Full Boost's case, not enough just yet, since I did get that one not too long ago). But with those characters, and some others I left out, I can at least do most/all of their specials/supers without a movelist. Getting them into combos or practical use on the other hand...

"...not yet."

The Heavy Day uploads keep getting taken down, but GAT DAYUM. I am even more hyped than I was before, and I was already 367.22% hyped.
that number is not a reference

TRICK, CHEAT, FRAUD, LIE... SUFFER IN THE END! (a.k.a. what GGXrd will do to the FGC Kappa)

EDIT: Also, "WE MADE A CONTRACT WITH A CLOWN AND HAD A HORRIBLE TIME!" sounds like the story of FGC sponsorship...
