Fighting Games Weekly | April 14-20 | Some Permutation of "Daigo is Da Bess"

Madcatz store got the TTT2 Wii U stick for $49.99 (I think shipping is $11 in the US).
This would be a good deal if there were more fighting games on Wii U...

Speaking of the Wii U, did injustice on Wii U ever get the remaining DLC characters and an up-to-date balance patch?

Started playing VF5 FS again after a long while and spent some time practicing Eileen's combo strings and stuff. Until now I didn't utilize many of her different cancels and stances as I stuck mostly to what was presented in the command training (mainly forward P+K+G and 236 P). Can't believe I didn't realize this sooner as I felt like a whole bunch of opportunities opened up for me just now. Goddammit, I love this game so much.

Are you on PSN?

Only problem is that it doesn't take into account distance. It's only based on startup and the frame disadvantages of the moves.

I had a database for this when vanilla came out. I never kept it up, but if I had accurate frame data for all the versions, I'd be willing to spin it back up for Ultra.

And you're absolutely correct on the distance factor, but it still helps to know what the possibilities are.

There should be an app that not only stores frame data but analyzes it. Print out potential links, potential punishes either way in a matchup, etc.
I have an app like that on my iPhone.

You pick a matchup, then pick an attack from the character you're facing then it'll give you a list of attacks you can use to punish it. Really good app tbh

Nvm it's already been posted

Also that Jigglypuff gif was hilarious

Eileen is scary precisely because once she starts a string she can mix it up and do whatever the fuck she wants. make ch setups, teach em to block and throw em.
How many characters in your respective currently played games can you guys play at a proficient level?
wrt proficiency
S rank: Lau
A rank: Akira
B rank: Jean

I want to learn Lion and Aoi and Jacky

Question for you Oneida, being the resident VF fan (along with Oichi/soakrates) what is your opinion about Dead or Alive 5?

and Kage and Goh

I just wanna learn everyone tbh

I think it's fundamentally fine but I don't enjoy it because it just plays like less fun VF. movement is more restricted, damage is lower and combos put great distance between the two characters. the stun system doesn't appeal to me but i could see myself stomaching it if I decided to learn the game.

I'll probably only main it if am2 closes up shop and I get tired of FS, simply because it just feels like bad VF to me.

Yes I am, though I've not gone online with VF at all. Probably might at some point, if only because it seems like I'm the only one who plays it.

Yeah, it's pretty great. Though that reminds me that I should probably do some training with Aoi as well and see what I've been potentially missing with her character. I know that she has specific strings that can be cancelled but they obviously don't work exactly like Eileen's do.

And I guess I'll add my thoughts on DOA5 that I don't enjoy it as much as Virtua Fighter either, but I still like it more than most other fighters both 3D and 2D. Critical Stun system is whatever to me but the general flow of combat is fast and I like it. Always thought of that series in the same vein as something like Fighting Vipers or other Sega fighters from that time. A fighting game based on VF concepts and systems but with their own spin on it.

Do you mean like cancelling a step with a crouch dash and blocking? Or something more general?

movement feels so nice in VF because with step canceling you can move around the screen however you want while appearing unpredictable to your opponent.

in DOA a failed evade just feels so bad, I don't feel like I can use it for anything except its intended purpose.

There's one huge issue you guys are missing with the DoA games: most of the moves are unsafe on block -- hell, some of them are unsafe on HIT. Granted, some of that is by design (they're intended to only be used during critical stuns) but it really makes offense feel kind of derp, since the only real safety you can get is by staggering strings and ending them early (to keep people honest and from throw punishing you). On the flip side, moves that are safe tend to have really powerful defensive options in DoA, since fuzzy guard is very strong as there is only a one-frame delay on crouching -- 334 will evade most throws and block highs and mids (but can lose to slower, more powerful throws, as different throws have different start-up speeds).

I also really hate the way sidesteps work in DoA5(U), they don't work right with either input IMO. I swear to God that I've had the game eat the 88 motion while buffering (while that might be me being the suck), and I've also seen where 2|8P+K+G get interpreted as an attack, even when binding P+K+G to a single button. That and it's not clear at all how string tracking works (although this might be me not knowing the engine enough) -- it seems to behave like VF in that once you start an attack, the string auto-corrects... but is also seems to auto-correct after a fixed period of time too.

DoA's netcode and matchmaking is also miles worse than VF's.

edit: Testing stuff from this post and lol wow DoA's command interpreter is worse than I thought, I may have found a really dumb OS. Haven't seen anything on FSD about it, so I might make a short video if this is actually new tech..

Ayano says that Red Focus is a mechanic made for casual players...

I don't see how. The input is unintuitive, it's 3 buttons that are not arranged linearly and many pad players will have difficulty with it. And it's a big resource investment so if you mash it out then you get fucked. Plus there are a few weird properties to Red Focus like the hyper armor does not work during the actual strike only during the charge and despite it having hyper armor it can still be broken by armor breaking moves like regular Focus.

It makes Ultras incredibly easy to land, so if you get a big hitstun normal you hit the red focus command, and have enough time to easily fire it off.

It's definitely weird, but it's not hard. It takes the "DC" out of FADC Cancel"

They said Ultras are for casuals, and yet the most reliable way to land the Ultra for the most selected character involves doing a FADC out of a shoryuken and quickly doing the input.

The thing I find interesting/scary about how red focus works is that it now gives pretty much every character in the game the ability to hit confirm into ultra with three bars. It'll help flatten out the damage everyone does a bit... but I don't think that's how Street Fighter is designed to work? Granted, it's a lot of resources to burn -- but it's also a lot of damage.

People think they've seen cheap shit in Marvel? Wait til they see this dumb shit. Idk why this isn't banned yet. Smh

He's claiming he has tech that makes marvel a 1p game without firebrand...interesting

sorry if old.

If they were concern about casual players, I would have hoped they considered adding alpha counter. Make it foward+focus attack (2 meter) during guard, that would give casual players an easy to execute get the eff off of me option and it would make sense with the DP FADC nerf.

But I guess they wanted to add an option casual players can do that can follow up with an ultra for a huge comeback.
