Sweet, I went to GG about two weeks ago. I'm over in Robertson County.

Nice, in actuality I spend most of my time in Cheatham County I suppose, so Robertson's not as far as from Nashville, so I totally understand how long it takes to get to Nashville and that it's going to be a good drive to Murfreesboro for you :(

Sweet, hope to see you there! I'll be the short black kid who doesn't know what he's doing. :p
Also I heard about the mansion thing, is that going down?

Man, you're gonna have a blast. Tournaments are the best. After 2 years of non stop traveling I finally took a break following EVO and VXG. This will be the first big event I've traveled to since. Anxious.

Yeah, as far as I know it's happening.

"The mansion thing" = NRS community is renting a mansion for the weekend and all the scenes are coming together to pay for it. Hella casuals and shenanigans.

It's about an hour drive not too bad since I don't go too often.

Also I'm pretty sure we got a lot more marvel registrants than 40...

are you one of the staff members?
if so, damn there's a lot of contradictions surrounding entrant numbers, cause I heard SF in the 70s and Melee/Project M are in the 50s

unless of course it just changed in the last 15 hours, which I guess is likely on the last day

Nah, that just doesn't seem right to me idk

Every few days the JP Strider website updates with new info about characters, new areas, your Options, etc. And on Thursday, there was a 30+ minute stream of the game with Greggman with new footage and info, like 3 difficulty settings, alt costumes, leaderboards, game length, etc.

Silky seems to be the only one who posts threads about it. I think sixteen bit knows about this, but that nigga hates this game

I feel like its Strider 2 controls, with Strider NES Metroid level structure, with a lot of Strider 1 references. I'd be shocked if Strider Hien shows up.

I need links. That no internet/1 week ban struggle was indeed, a struggle

Looks like its pretty low requirement... I meant I don't expect it to require much.

lol, is it opposite day?

OG Strider was an arcade game. I'd hope it was "arcadey". By older games do you mean the NES version? I don't follow.
I was talking about this:

strider-20080229050340586.jpg

as well as the NES version.

Yeah I know OG Strider was an arcade game but after that it wasn't an arcade game. Then it became an arcade game again in the PS1 era. So it hasn't been an arcade game all the time and the non arcade games were pretty good too.

Of course whether it is a good non-arcade game is still yet to be seen. Although I am not gonna lie.. the PS1 era Strider games were pretty damn hype.

But the Genesis game was basically a port of the arcade version, and Strider 2 for PS1 was pretty similar.

Literally the only Strider game that isn't like the original arcade game is the NES.

if you have never played strider 2 (psx/arcade version with current strider design) on a sturdy cab you can just mash super hard on you are missing out

moving around and going in on the attack button is unbelievably satisfying

or just do it standing on a hefty stick- that game is like absolutely designed for stick with the mashiness of attacking in it

Finally arrived home from Manchester's first FGC event in a while. Goukifafa ran a pretty cool little event. :) It is so important to go to locals and for such locals to exist as they really help polish your game.

A decent gun for some publicity in news outlets and maybe getting cited elsewhere like Guinness.

Something rubs me the wrong way about this but I can't articulate it. At least what they seem to have created supports discussion and not just people using numbers though, which could be really good for new players to understand why things are seen the way they are and what they can do about it.

Please tell me Eventhubs' next visual overhaul is sooner than later. PLEASE

Could it be that it's aggregating an opinion to calculate something that is typically measured through empirical means?

It's like asking ten people what a baseball player's batting average should be instead of actually counting hits and dividing by at-bats.

Most of this isn't going to apply to UMVC3 because match ups are too dynamic and combination based.

Which of course won't prevent them from running with it anyways.

To be fair though, we haven't seen what the Marvel one will look like, they're just running AE now.

The same would apply to any game with team synergy (Skullgirls comes to mind immediately).

Only correct way to really tier UMVC3 is to do it by teams and with that you have to rank thousands of teams.

Or if you are to rank characters individually then you have to factor in support value as well otherwise you would have controversy over characters like Doom and Dante vs points only like Wolverine and Nova.

I think if they want to do something interesting then they should start ranking/rating characters based on roles. Point, Secondary, Support, Anchor.
